silly rank system

The "ranking" system here is really kind of...well....silly. I understand the need to keep an active membership base but I guess I don't really see why when someone has reviewed several games before, they're suddenly not allowed to review new games...as if their reviewing skills have somehow devolved because of a lack of log-ons...

....this hits home harder when one sees the ...ahem..."quality" of most of the reviews of the newer games, along the lines of ...

"THIS GAME SUXXORZ YOO fR3aKS! WoW is the pwntage!!!!"

...another thing to consider is that a lot of members here are probably directed to the site via e-mail when MMORPG sends out a notice of a new story and we don't always log in...that's what's happened in my case. Yeah, I should remember to log in....my bad...but really, it's just plain dumb to dock member ranks based on log-ins.

I would suggest that there be some kind of hybrid system, if possible. New sign-ups have to get the rank required to post...but once they DO reach that and then actually write a game review, they retain the ability to write further reviews in any case.

I would also suggest that maybe there should be more focus on the quality of reviews rather than the number of log-ins. I think it's far more important to weed out "l33t d00d sp3Ak" and other inane post types than it is to require maintenance of a rank system...

just a thought...

    Hello,

    Thank you for your feedback.  We are planning to update the ranks a bit and some form of base rank for long-time members that login at least once per month is being considered.  It would only be up to about 10% of the total score...but this would prevent someone who has been here a couple months from not getting to review and such.

    We try to remove bad user comments but the man-power to police that is overwhelming.  It is important to note that those are not really "user reviews" but just comments that people add to their score if they wish.  We might actually ad a nicer "user review" system where we allow gamers to submit much more robust reviews image
