I left while they worked through the problems only to come back to Wiccana to find every single name I RP under gone. I'm on the transfer to server at that..
Anyone else quit over this?

I can see this being the straw that break many a camel's back. But than again its rather minor compared to the serious problems the game has, those will keep most players from ever again paying an AoC sub.
With there being 5 servers now merged into one, there aren't many good names left. Oh well, I really wanted to give this game a chance once it was worked out but the name thing is to much for me.

Yep, me and the wife had 6 accounts for this game. really so we could start our own guild . but had so many names we loved .. we took of the last few months while they fixed stuff, now with the server mergs we lost most of our names.. so we uninstalled and not looking back.. dead game for us now.. server transfers are ok if you picked a bad one that is not my problem but to allow someone from another server to over lap you people nope , not happening..
It's a name pick another one and be creative using the same name over and over gets boring.

This is one of those I'm a whiner threads. I have an idea, try being original and find a name thats unique. Or, you could follow this post and continue to be brainless and unoriginal. If the only reason people leave a game is because there name is taken, you've got your gaming priorities in the wrong order. You know how many people had a name picked out for WOW that was already taken? Do you think they just moved on to a different game? The reality is people who love a game arn't going to leave just over a name. Any of you Troll followers like this poster ever hear the phrase "What's in a Name"? Try looking it up and maybe you'll start enjoying games more when you realize the name is only just that, a name.

A name has an identity attached to it.
Some people like their names and like to RP with a consistent character between games.
So, keithianw, maybe instead of talking about people using a forum for what it's for, you should consider both sides of the argument and just agree that they're equally unimportant to you either way.

I think this is a little different then starting a new server and the name being taken. One of my names was egyptian and as someone pointed out had a character attached to it that fit the Conan setting. I RP in other places besides games and I was thrilled I got into the game early enough to finally catch my name available. I preordered for this very reason, so I could jump in first day the moment the game went live to snag my name on the unofficial RP server. I've been gaming since 97 (NWN) and this is the first time I actually got into a game early enough to get my name. Now the character, (35 )is useless to me.
But this isn't a whinner thread. I'm not one of the people that will moan and groan and keep playing. I unsubcribed the moment I realized out of 6 names, only one was left. I do play for RP purposes, so I can't just play any old chracter.
Anyway, the purpose of the thread was merely to find out how many others felt the same way over their names being taken. For me, it felt like something was stolen from me. They might as well had took all six characters out of the account as far as i'm concerned. So yea, priorities or not it was game breaking for me.

Yes, I can certainly feel how annoying this would be. The exact thing happened to me in another game. There are no variations of the same name that would help lesson the blow? Like Zavea instead of Zavia? It would just be a shame for you to 'quit' if other then this you were enjoying yourself.

For one of the names it is a 4 letter word spelled with only 2 letters. So that makes it impossible to make a variation on it without it looking silly. Its mainly that one I'm not happy over. The others were already variations of the main names I didn't get and now the variations are gone too lol.

Sorry that you couldn't get the same names as before and they were taken when you came back - it sucks.
There is not much that can be done though, unless an x-fer to another server is a viable option?
I guess it is the same thing like with most contractual terms, take your internet for example, if you have email address' registered with your provider and disco you will loose them and they get put back into public use again.
It seems to be just one of those things, but at least the characters themselves are safe and secure.
Yeah i transferred to a busier server, found my name was unavailable, got mad, decided to try the name 'Failcom' and was gobsmacked that it was actually available. but i didn't last long because the next time i logged in the GM's or someone had changed it and given me a really crappy generic name like something one of the NPC's would have.
Anyway i got a name now and all is well.
Why are there so many cutesie, fantasy, childish MMO's. Give me blood, gore and a long lasting challenge. I don't need my hand being held along the way. Thanks.

What happens if several characters with the same name end up on the same server?
This depends on the following aspects and rules:
Is the character on a still active account?
If several characters of the same name are all from active accounts, the one with the higher level will keep his name.
If merged characters have the same level, the one from an account which is registered on a longer time base will keep the name (so 3 month recurring over 1 month recurring).
If characters are from accounts with the same subscription recurring time, the last login will decide which one keeps the name.
The other(s) will be prompted a message at the first attempt to log in with that character stating that a new name must be given to this character.

wow , hate much .. this thread asked anyone pissed about losing their name .. so i posted my thoughts.. you came here to troll i guess .. but back to the topic.. yes we could pick others names but like stated the game was only OK, not great and our names atleast had meaning for us.. so now we have really nothing to return too.. .. no biggie moving on to next one.. always another poping out..

LOl is right, never had a tear hit my face.. not worth it for the game.. to much was messed up at the time and now i really can't say no reason to install it and resub..do wonder why you think people would cry over it, is this something you do .. just asking not pointing a finger. Like SWG, made me sooo mad after NGE but after a bit of time i tried the free vet trial and was , well alone pretty much but still had my people and my stuff .. some games have feelings to the .. like EQ on the Fv server when you logged in i would get many tells of hi , or what you up too.. or come join us.. RPing is fun and that is part of a name.. but never Cry about it.. just move on..
