Dark Age of Camelot: Orgins Does Exist

Well it appears that Mythic is finally breaking their silence about Origins.  In the most recent grab bag (last Friday) it was said that

"I know that many of you are eager to know what the status of the Origins server is and can’t wait for an update. I just wanted to let you know that while there isn’t any information to share with you right now, I’m pleased to say that there will be in the weeks ahead. As always keep an eye the Herald for the latest news."

The link to the grab bag is here: http://www.camelotherald.com/news/news_article.php?storyid=3782

Also there was a legitimate video posted (right around Thanksgiving) on the Camelot VN boards that shows the Old Frontiers with updated graphics in some detail.  There is a link to it below:

Anyway, it seems that Origins may infact come out, although it's not safe for anyone to get their hopes up yet.

Seriously, I don't know whether this loooong, stealthy development is a good sign or a bad sign??

Seemed like a simple project at first.  Of course, I'm not under any illusion that early DAOC was perfect, so if they're working on some positive changes and adding needed features, then no problem.

what parts of the graphics have been updated?

only one of the buildings in the video looked somewhat newish to me.  everything else looked like how i remember it.  except maybe the water, which was already updated everywhere starting with the first expansion i thought.

is Origins unexpanded?  or will it contain one or more expansions?

Content wise they claim it to be up to Shrouded Isles.  Graphics wise it will be all of them and any they want to add afterward.  Old frontiers as well with a few tweaks, for good or for bad I have no idea.  Either way I think I'm going back.  Hell I might even go back right now.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Pretty sad when all there is to be excited about is Mythic actually mentioning it.

    True.

Even worse, we're all eagerly waiting for information on an old school server from an 8 year old game.  Just goes to show how great the genre is right now...

Pretty sad, I know.  Ironic how everybody talks about progression in the games but the genre practices regression if you ask me.

As nuch as i do enjoy some games out there that are newer. I have never experienced anything like DAOC in it s prime. I know it won t be quite the same, but if it s even 1/10th as good as it was way back when it s better then anything out there imo, now and soon to be released.

Ah DAoC. Oh how i've missed you.

Anyone tried running it on Windows 7 yet? As I will be installing it on a second PC and wanted to see if it would run. If not I will try myself!

Am I the only one who doesn't want a map in the GUI?

Once the Origions server is up, I'll be there, but I would like a little more classical GUI and Controls (I can get classic controls with a keyboard reconfig). I never liked how they tried to make the controls like WoWs with the WSAD. I liked it with the arrow keys even though it may have been counter intuitive. Looking forward to this new server though. Just hope they don't take too much longer.

Did I read someplace that Theurgist wont be in it????

If so why the hell not?

I loved unleashing hell on em nasty Mids...

  • IlliusIllius Member UncommonPosts: 4,142

I'm in favor of having the Theurgist removed.  No other class could do what the Theurgist could to the same effect at least in the spirit of competition.  As a Theurgist you had an answer for just about any situation while other classes did not.  Any melee that came after you would be chain stunned by pets and the stun imunity would never count.  Sieging keeps?  Just bombard the door with earth pets...  Want to be a pain in the ass just for the sake of being an ass summon some ice pets and watch them nuke the crap out of anything and everything.

No other class had this kind of stopping power.

Edit:  I suggest you roll some other realm and go fight against them.  It's the only way you'll really get the perspective.  In other words, you gotta open your eyes twice the size and realize!

I forgot about that...  but I'm kind of used to it fighting a Warden everywhere I go.  When I played my warrior I had a small really fast blade that used to proc bladeturn and just for giggles and shits I took it out into RvR to see what happens.

I ended up fighting a warden for 10 minutes straight and neither of us managed to do more then 10% damage to each other.  If the proc didn't go off, I'd parry or block a hit and his PBT as well as that new shield spec helped too so after 10 minutes we took a step back from one another, shrugged and walked away.

I know DF wasn't involved in the Original launch, but I was curious if anyone knew if it would in with the origins server( I am guessing no)? And there feelings on DF, if it would be good or bad for the origins server?

I personally loved DF, great place to farm people and XP, and I think the best expansion they ever put out for DAOC.

  • KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 44,093

No one knows for sure, but if they include through SI it would have DF.

And truthfully, that is the prize that everyone fought for when they RVR'd, so it pretty much has to be there.

What Kyle said.  I've lost count on how many hours I've spent farming seals just so that I could buy some DF items and salvage them and sell the salvage.  Great money.  I knew all the crafters and I'd often get tells from them asking me if I had any salvage to sell off or if I needed anything made where they'd give me discounts because I've supplied them with salvage.
