Definitely AC2. AC2 died because it was released way to early and was broke and couldn't be fixed in time. I always felt that WoW combat was watered down AC2 combat and the talent tree system was borrowed from AC2's skill tree's.
LoTRO without the lore is an inferrior version of AC2 in my opinion. AC2 combat was much better and so was the character custimization. Take that with random loot, no lore limitations, complete creative control for turbine and much more of a sandbox type game environment, they would have a game with 100-150k subs easily.
UO, with the same community when it released. The same people who never knew what "PvP", "PvE", "Gank" or "LOL" was... people who just played the great sandbox in the sky.
Scratch that, I guess I just want the mature community that I once had back then.
Everquest (pre-Luclin)... including the original graphics... that would have some nostalgic appeal. I'll never forget starting out in Freeport as an MMO n00b, trying to type a message in chat, forgetting to hit 'enter' on my keyboard first, instead hitting 'a' for autoattack, and getting 1-shotted by a guard.
Also, DAoC pre-ToA... that game had the best PvP (RvR) to date in my opinion, without any of the game unbalancing issues that seemed to start cropping up with the Trials of Atlantis...

im going to throw one in the mix auto assault . my reason's behind it
it was different i felt that if they had invested the time in expanding the hubs it could of been a goos game . i know i lot will not agree with me but i enjoyed it
What a fun game, unfortunately my computer at the time couldn't handle it.
agreed! they ever took it back before levels and selling jitters id love it i was there thru beta and was also in the best mdn of the times called wave runner went by the name outlawttc or genrlwipass:)
Ps i had to upgrade to a voodoo 3k i think it was run in x2 mode was it sli back then or called something different ? lol
Also had to edit, motorcity online was a fun game as well but meh , im still back to playing eq my wallet hurts from trying all these failing games but my heart never felt better, back home in eq .
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!

The above two would be my first two choices as well.
I would also put Vanguard on the list as well as Horizons (at least what i thought Horizons was supposed to be).

I played the late AC2 and by that stage it was good, and also original. Questionable design decisions- why it had an xp debt when it had so few players and especially new players I'll never know.

This.
It is three years since the servers shut down and AC2 has still active fan forums - much more active than many games on this site. I hope AC2 will revive once more, with or without Turbine.
To those 200, 000 SWG fans waiting for TOR.....Don't! ToR is going to be the exact opposite of a sandbox game, it's completely story driven. Different quest paths will open depending on your actions or responses, but thats the only way it is not linear. I'm hoping it will feel epic and heroic but it won't be about open exploration and player freedom which is what I gather most SWG fans miss.

The project died before release. I think it would have been good.

Dark and Light. I wish I tried this game. It looked so good. I missed the bus.
DAoC pre TOA

And my guess is they'll have to wait about another six months for their wish to come true. C'ya there.
I would add that MUDs would be an enjoyable diversion from the graphics before gameplay philosophy which dominates the industry at this time
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)

The original version of Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU. Bring back the originals of both games.
Planetside
Shadowbane. Oh I know, it's still going, but it really needs an infusion of a new engine/graphics.

These games are dead for a good reason.
SWG pre cu, Dark Age of Camelot pre TOA, AC2 are the ones I miss the most.

AD&D Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands, I loved that game.
