Wow

I've been playing mmorpg's for about 10 years now... wow...  I'm now 20. I have taken the last couple years off seeing as there are a few reputable games out there. I dabbled in WoW it was good for what it was worth, but i enjoyed playing DAOC, SWG, Everquest, and many others.

Never have i ever been so anxious for a release of a game even though there has been very little information released about the game. I've loved Star Wars ever since i've seen A New Hope, so I'm hoping this game brings the best out of SWG seeing as Bioware brought in a couple of Pre-cu developers when Bioware first started the project. I don't know if any of you remember the rumor bug a long time ago when bioware opened their new studio in Texas ( rumors were flying everywhere about another  Star Wars MMO ), but to finally see that it is Lucas Arts/Bioware/EA are comming out with a Star Wars mmo makes me want to get back into mmo's again. Hopefully this will finally be the niche game for me as SWG was.

I don't exactly know what the point of this Topic is... most likely just my excitment, so discuss if you would like or flame me haha

Sadly niche games don’t do so well. I admit, I liked SWG pre-cu as well, but there was a reason it didn’t have mass appeal. I liked it because it was Star Wars. I liked it because I could do whatever. I even remember being bored at times, but I still liked it, bugs and all. TOR is pretty much gonna have something in it for every play style. You may see some systems you enjoyed from SWG, you may see some you enjoyed from WoW. Point is it’s built to have mass appeal. People complain about graphics, but to me graphics aren’t very important (as long as it doesn’t look like WURM Online)

    some Design Q&A

James: One of the things we've been doing is that we're making sure that when we're building content we have different representatives of the different play styles. Whenever we're doing design discussions or implementing a system, we have the different player types involved. There's the solo player type that hates other players and is very anti-social...

BioWare is creating their game with all play styles in mind.

It's funny, because there are a bunch of players like this in WoW where they don't like to hang around with other players but love to show off all the cool stuff that they have.

Then there are the players that like to adventure with their buddies. They have their own group of friends, and they just like to adventure with those players all the time.

Then there are players that like to join guilds and are social butterflies and like to adventure with people from their guild. They like to be part of these big huge groups that go out and play in major events like raids.

We want to take all those players and make sure that each of those player types has fun in our game. I can't go into details about all the systems, but we have made sure that those player types are thought about when we're building the game.

Thanks for the input, I agree that one of the best/coolest things about SWG was the fact that it was Star Wars and you could immerse yourself in the world of Star Wars. Graphics are another thing I don't regard very highly when it comes to justifying if a game is good or horrible. I really like what they are doing with the graphics even though it may seem slightly childish. It is different than the next gens like they say in their video, which I kind of like considering the problems a lot of these next gen games are having, hopefully the engine and graphics they have will make for very smooth gameplay.

Does anyone know if they have released any more information on what exactly the game play will be like i.e. Level based, skill based those type of things? I know they haven't released very much information at all, but I couldn't seem to find that information on their website.

They haven't given out any details about systems yet. That article I linked is about as in depth as it's been so far, though Feb will be the month for a bit more info.

Can you talk about the leveling system at all? Will there be innovations beyond killing monsters all the time?

James: Our leveling system does use the classic experience point type leveling system. There are some innovations that we working on, but we can't talk about it.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows what star wars is. That is if you live is a country thats in the 21st century. Anyways with all the people that LOVED KoToR and all the other Star Wars fans from SWG and in general. There will be enough to support the game. Think about it. Im sure more people know about Star Wars Lore then Warcraft Lore.
