Forgot interplays shot was almost up.

I hope so. I'd much rather see Bethesda handle it before Interplay. Interplays' fame is over, and when (if) they lose the last vestige of the Fallout franchise remaining to them, they're over and done.

And I'd much rather see a Fallout MMO before TES.  I think it would grab a huge share, whether sandbox or quest themepark.  Skill-based andbox Fallout anyone?!

The 300 million dollars isn't for a single game. The 300 million was a from a venture capital firm, to fund a wide array of operations.

Does everything have to be a damned "skill-based" sandbox MMO?

Fallen Earth already has the skill-based sandbox apocalyptic mmo area covered.

And Bethesda already explained back before Fallout 3 came out why it was based on levels with skill point allocation rather than totally skill-based. Because that is how the Fallout mechanics work and they have no intention of changing the core gameplay any more than necessary ( and they did a hell of a job staying true to the Fallout series ).The only thing they would have to remove ( because it just won't work in a multiplayer FPS type game ) would be the "turn based" battle system. It would have to be a straight FPS.

only drawback to Fallen Earth is its combat system...

    3rd person shooter

History has not been kind to 1st or 3rd person shooters in the MMO genre. Would Bethesda make a similiar combat MMO when its never sold well ?

Why would you care what they spend on production?

There is only one thing that matters when it comes to gaming, "is it worth playing?" Period, a large budget doesnt automatically answer that question.

If they spend $300mil on an MMO, they will need to have millions of subscribers to make back the costs.

It would force them to be the second most successful MMO ever released (behind WoW), to make a profit.

Don't care what anyone says, but no one in this industry is stupid enough to invest that much on such an unreliable market.

There was a Oblivion MOD which allowed two players to play online together, cost nothing. But for a couple of thousand people to play together it will cost $300 million.

Hopefully we get a better game than Oblivion then. :)

elderscrolls is the holy grail of IP's for an mmo atm. because if its elderscrolls that means FPS combat and sandbox world, which is what I crave.

one thing I disliked in oblivion/morrowind wasthe overall levels, whats the point? the leveling system is so retarded. choosing major skills you use is a disavantage in the current system, its an overcomplicated mess. just have skills level up only and attributes go up sometimes too, no overall levels those suck.

the tenton hammer article is funny the guy makes so many presumptions based on nothing but his own desires. what an asshat.

oh and FYI after everyone saying morrowind>oblivion I bought it, what a waste of money its total tird. maybe it was good back in 2001, but even after I modded the graphics view distance to be fine, the game is just really shit combat is so clunky.

There's been an ongoing discussion about an ES MMO at TESNexus. Someone tried to argue in favor of an ES mmo, needless to say he didn't get much support. You can check it out at thenexusforums.com/index.php

Combat in fallout 3 is very fun, but you have VATS, which you couldn't do in a MMO (can't pause an MMO) so I don't know what they would do.

Thanks for posting this OP.  This is great news.  I LOVE Oblivion with a passion.  I have 1 copy for my PC and 1 copy for my PS3.  That game is what mmorpgs should be like.  A crazy world where you can go anywhere you want and do anything you want.  To hear that they are making an Elder Scrolls MMO is great news.  While playing Oblivion I would always say to myself "This would be so much more fun if it was an MMO".

I agree. It will be years away though, I guess, so a bit early to prepare the dinner table for this meal.

I myself am an Elder Scrolls fan since the Arena days, and I always loved the world of Tamriel. It has many fascinating regions and cultures and I think they could make a great MMO of it.

The majority of their fanbase is based around FPS combat ( Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3, etc. ). So yes. I think they would.

Earth to OP, this is the internet.  Anyone can post any nonsense they want.  What you have to do is exercise an ounce of brainpower to determine what is fact and what is fiction.

Obviously, the 300 million is bogus.  If you can't see that, then I feel sorry for you.  Even the biggest MMO only spend about $30 million on them, there is just not that much investment money floating around these days.

Unless you can assure blizzard numbers there is no way anyone could get their investment back.  It is obvious that no one has come close to those numbers.

So next time use some sense and post something that is remotely believable.

If they stay true to elderscroll (preffered morrowind) and make it sandbox im very pleased and blizzard get some serieus competiton.

Hm... Elder Scrolls Online... I dunno. I really have thought about this. On the one hand I totally loved the Elder Scrolls games, partially because of the rich lore and vast world, and also because I love my games big! And both is offered by Elder Scrolls games.

On the other hand... I am VERY unsure about Bethesda. They have a long history of making things half hearted and not very welcoming to their customers. Like their mini addons, both for Oblivion and now Fallout 3, they somehow always managed to make it impossible for me to buy them. I had bought the UK version and imported them here to Germany, since as old time gamer, I want games in the original language. But from Germany it was just IMPOSSIBLE to download those mini addons in ANY way. Whenever I wrote them, they just shrugged. This had pissed me off about Oblivion and now with  Fallout 3 its just the same. It just is a VERY bad sign dealing with customers who desperately WANT to pay money, ultiamtely forcing them to get the mini addons with torrents. I really wanted to pay, but they just didnt let me! Repeting such a desaster just doesnt bode well for the idea of a MMO who greatly depends on customers service.

Also ingame-wise... all those Bethesda games, as great as they were, had always things which just made me shake my head. Like the levelled enemies in Oblivion. Or that they never managed to make a decend combat system for Elder Scrolls, it was always a hectic clickfest. Sure, the WORLD of Tamriel has great potential, but somehow my faith in Bethesda to make a really good MMO out of it is... limited. They just make the same mistakes over and over, and people who apparently dont learn should do their homework first before starting something as complex as a MMORGP. A MMO usually multiplies the problem a mere single player game would have.
