I understand we get a ton of trolls here at MMORPG, and more then likely he was one of them, but can you really blame new players for not enjoying FFXI?
You are more than welcome to not like it. No one with half a brain on these boards will think any less of someone who had tried the game and given it a shot before make a decision on it. The poster in question had said the day before why he didn't like the game and then come back to make a simialr opinion on someoen else post. Why are you going to come back to a forum for a game you don't like to post again that you don't like it if not only to cause problem and be a troll?
The troll in question obviously plays WoW and expects this game to be a WoW clone and if it isn't a WoW clone he is going to attack it. Why? because Blizzard puts out a game a 5-year-old could play and get to the highest level without much degree of difficulty, and since people use video games as an esteme boost, when faced with a challenge people more apt to berate the challenge and talk it down as crap rather than attempt to defeat the challenge because of the chance of failure and knocking them off their grand pedistool thus bringing them back down to real life where they suck (/em throws gauntlet down). There ... I said it.
"The mini-map sucks" Why? because it isn't a WoW minimap and doesn't tell you where the quests and it doesn't highlight the npc you need to talk to next for a quest. If he comes on here and says "ya know I really don't like this minimap it doesn't tell you anything about which npc is which." If he would have stated his displeasure like that he would have gotten me saying: "That is because it isn't a minimap, it is a radar. It helps people see that there is a mob around a corner, you might not be able to target the mob or see it, but you know it is there. Kinda like real life."
This would kick off a good converstion because one of my personal gripes with FFXI is that you do need a guide to get though quests. SE acknowleges that which is why they deliever quest information to the so called "premium" sites like FFXI wiki and Alla. There really is no rhyme or reason for me to be walking from Windy Waters to talk to a Taru all the way over to Port Bastok to talk to a Galka when the Taru never even mentions my next step. If the quest system in FFXI was something like WoW or WAR or LotRO ... yeah I might like it a little better. It is a deal breaker ... cetainly not. And considering the first thing the troll could think of when bitching was the "mini-map" .... it kinda tells you he didn't want to play to begin with.
