So do you play Free 2 play mmorpgs or Pay 2 play mmorpgs or maybe both?
Which would be your main focus though, If you were to say you play one mmorpg more than the rest would it be a Free 2 play mmorpg or a Pay 2 play mmorpg?
For me personally I play a lot of Guild wars and FFXI , so I guess you can say I play a lot of pay 2 play mmorpgs, However I also play Runes of Magic on ocasion and Atlantica online. So I play a little of both but my vote goes to P2P because its what I mainly play for the majority of my free time.

I read on a former post that the minority of this sites community is Free 2 play, From the short numbers on the poll I think thats right. For some reason I assumed the majority was Free 2 play not pay 2 play lol.
Yea, the majority of MMORPG.Com visitors are mainstream P2P players. Whereas other sites (like OnRPG, MMOSITE) are almost exclusivly F2P. For me, I like P2P games more than F2P so I stay here.
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I've never seen a decent MMORPG that's "free" wiht an item mall (which of course isn't free). I don't even look at games that are so-called F2P. Being nickled and dimed in microtransactions isn't my idea of fun.
I'll sit down and play both.
But i'm not currently paying to play becuase i personally think the current mmo's that are out just dont catch my attention.
So im doing F2P " Perfect world."
For right now, and plan on playing earth rise and ether saga, so both are good.
i P2P for high-end games
and play F2P for usually a asian looking game i dunno just me.

if your main game is a f2p game you might be pretty cheap.
usually f2p games have less features, weak graphics, and horrible lag.
p2p games are 15 dollhairs a month which can be annoying, but they are much better quality than f2p, unless your talking about, darkfall, the game that will never come out!
oh and yea im not playing any mmo's atm.
Disagree 100% with this, f2p doesn't make you cheap, some of us are tired of the p2p games available right now. I've played a lot of f2p's, yes, some are poor quality, but honestly, some of them have better gameplay then some of the crappy p2p's out there. I'd say half of the p2p's available, don't even deserve to be charging people for the crap they are selling, Matrix Online is a prime example, followed by many others.
Although yes, a LOT of f2p's are a completely waste of space, and in some instances, to be well off in some f2p's you have to pay more in cash shop than 15 bucks a month.
Unfortunately there is no good mmorpg now adays so I am currently not playing any; mainly playing xbox360 atm.
I've never played a F2P mmo for more than a week.
Or they might not be pretty cheap, there have been many articles explaining of people that spend over 100 a month on Item Shops. So I think you should re-evaluate your statement. And some people like the gameplay in F2P there was a guy in my WoW guild (when i played) that actually preferred to grind rather than quest. It's all about playstyle, not "being cheap" or whatever.
Free to play MMORPG's are worth exactly what you pay for them - Nothing.
Every F2P MMO that I have tried has been absolutely horrible, usually a lag and grindfest, with crap communities.
I used to have a 'Tried 30 Days Or Less' section in my sig, it was full of F2P MMO's such as Silkroad, Archlord, Last Chaos, Rappelz, Hero Online etc.. All of them were terrible, terrible games.
With MMO's as with anything else you get what you pay for...
MMORPG History:
Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.
i mainly play GUILD WARS because it is a F2P and a great game by NCSOFT. I really wish i could play P2P but cant afford it becuase im just 14 years old XD.
just a small nitpick here.
Archlord was a really crappy P2P MMO before it was a really crappy F2P one.
oh, and try Atlantica.
Actually, I like both. I play p2p, mainly. But I play a f2p for a change of pace every once in a while, when I need a break. Usually its something with mindless killing and pretty graphics, like Cabal.
No offense, but that's one of the reasons I only play P2P games.
i think only idiots play P2P, Plenty of F2P that have way better graphic and animation. I played alot of P2P b4 but now only play F2P . Until someone revolutionary P2P comes out ill stick to the Free. I get just as much and sometime more excitement out of Free online games.
I would play Free 2 play if they were really Free 2 play, But almost all Free 2 play games eventually force you to use the Item mall if you want to participate in some major game events Raids, or end game activities. And if the game does not force it on you ur guild will, They will usually have to have people who are set up with these cash shop items to go do these end game activities, and if you are not ready with the cash shop goods to make it easier on everyone you are left out. So yeah This is mainly why I dont play F2P games. They are Free 2 play Pay 2 win.
f2p can be a fun distraction, one in which you get it setup, play for a couple hours and delete it in disgust. Its a good reminder as to why p2p games are better developed, designed, and worth your time.
For me personally, I only invest time and money into p2p games. I'll try a f2p title here and there to see how that particular market has progressed, but otherwise they end up being a waste of time. The koreans are not particularly great mmorpg makers, though they do have some companies that use international talent to build big budget titles now, aion for example.
I play PTP games. I have tried so many of the FTP but they all get boring fast. Currently waiting on a FTP game comming out next month though which will be pretty good for a FTP.
this is what i say to myself after a few day of playing P2P Online games, "$15.00 a month for this Crap No thanks u".
I play both technically. I have a lifetime sub to Lord of the Rings Online, but I almost never play that because it's almost entirely grinding (yeah, another kill 20 boar quest!) and has the worst community I've ever seen in an online game.
Instead I play various free games. Which are also grinding, but at least have people that talk. LOTRO is the only online game I've ever played where I can go hours without seeing another player or hearing anyone talk (er, type).
I think the whole base of that was from the initial sale of the game, and there's almost no new players (outside of the early bit, where you have trial/buddy key members).
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
I also have a lifetime subscription to LOTRO and I have had a very different experience than the last poster trancejeremy. I see enough players around in starter areas and in most small towns/villages to tell me that at least my server (silverlode) is alive and well. I also think that it is not only a game to 'grind' out quests. Sure there are quests having to do with 'collect this and bring it here' type quests but to say it is way too much would be an overstatement. The truly different thing about LOTRO than other mmo's is that there is a very intriguing storyline to follow which lacks in most mmo's as far as my knowledge goes. If you don't notice the storyline and don't get drawn into it then that is where you would find lotro to be lacking something, and possibly comparable to any game that has grinding quests that turn to boredom in no time.
To answer the thread, I paid the fee for lotro, and have tried a few play for free mmo's and found them inferior to lotro.
i only play free to play becouse i cant see buying a game an then have to pay monthly + ur paying your internet and then you dont even like the game.. i will only play a pay 2 play game for the amount of time a trial gives i only play free to play games and if "if" i liek them ill spend money in the item mall but i cant see the point in buying and paying monthly on a game like i bought final fantasy XI thinking it was free to play since the damn game combo was liek $50 and i find out i only get a 30 day trial i pretty much threw the thing away after the first day of playing the game. trake wow i tryed the wow trail but after the 15 day trail i just deleted the game didnt think twice becouse its not worth paying monthly to play its just not that good of a game lol
but this is just my thoughts..... to me i think al pay 2 play games arnt that good 95% of the time they arnt as good as some free 2 play
ok im done "-dont hit me-" lol
I have always played pay to play games except when i played Guild Wars, which i still play at times, between games. If you're wondering why i play Pay to Play games more its because they tend to have less kids (most of the time) and they are less prone to a cash shop (most of the time). And there tends to be a better community in P2P games but thats just my opinion.
"Emotion, yet peace.
Ignorance, yet knowledge.
Passion, yet serenity.
Chaos, yet harmony.
Death, yet the Force"
The Original Jedi Code
well i play p2p. Ive tried many f2p's but they all suck in my opinion, and i cant stand click to move games.. items shops=lame
But to each his pown
If you're playing MMOs for graphics and animations, you really are playing the wrong genre, go play an FPS or something. MMOs are for the community and lasting content.
And yea dont think iv ever played a F2P MMO, I dont think any have ever caught my attention.
