Oddly I have played them all, from WoW to Aoc (./wrists) and I ALWAYS come back to Planetside.
No other game seems to provide the rush of adrenaline that planetside does.....
But anyways here are some reasons why I think P.S. is the best MMO to date...
1. No commitment
2. You can bail whenever you want and jump back in for 15 mins and have a blast, no LFG here...
3. It actually does take some skill
4. It highly encourages mass teamwork, unlike any game ive ever seen. Feels like your in a 24/7 raid due to this.
5. Best PvP in a MMO ive ever seen. Some will argue that its not a true MMO, since it has no quests or w/e. But lets face it quests are coming out of style and are BORING.
6. This game doesnt feel like a job, i dont find myself staring at the XP bar waiting for it to move.
7. No gold curreny, so no spammers.
8. Had flying mounts way before WoW did
Btw if anyone is looking to play or get back into Planetside i highly suggest it...with the servers all merged there are still 100vs100 battles.
Anyways just sharing my two cents....
Oh heres a interesting P.S. video I thought was cool showing all the features.

Yup, pretty much. It's too bad the hacking is so rampant again.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
Heck PS is alays fun - even though I have it on my Station Access, I hesitate to login - as even though I dont plan to do much - I end up spending 8-12 hours once I am in the action!!
And yes, skill is required - but dont worry about it - just think of it as "live" ammo practice! And ignore the kill/death count and you'll have loads of fun!
Am not sure on the hackers bit - I have seen only 1 speed hacker in my years there - and as I recall they did do a hacker cleanup a while back and added stronger anti-hack code etc. However, not sure if hackers have learnt to play under the visible radar or not. *shrug*
Had the developers added content at a reasonable speed I dont think Id wouldve stopped playing PS, unfortunately they added content about every year at best... and not alot to begin with. Couple that with how sloppy Core Combat was when it was released, I knew plenty of Commanders who wouldnt even bother putting forces in the caves due to the fact it spread out forces too much. Not exactly good for an expansion to go un-used.
I've been coming back to PS at least 2 to 3 times a year, I play for about 2 or 3 weeks then end up leaving again, simply due to the fact all my old fellow brother and sisters from my outfit no longer play. And the enemy players I grew much respect for no longer play as well, it's sad to see such a desolate game that has yet so much potential. I've been doing the same with SWG, I'm currently playing that but I know I'll probably quit it soon again as well just because it's not the same "feeling" I once had. I only hope these new generation games that are due out can give us all that true "feeling" of an awesome immerse universe if you know what I mean. I miss it a lot.
PS. Sorry if that sounded too emotional

The problem with Planetside is the engine is just so dated now and SOE havn't bothered to make fixes that the game needed. Even back in 2003 they were ruining it with Core combat and then BFRs is what made everyone leave and I came back with a Veteran trial last year and noone was playing, even in peak times there was only ever one battle and it was pretty small. I remember back at launch and in beta there would be like 6 conts with giant battles at one time.
10000% accuracy with this post.
I am constantly cylcing through games because I remember specific times that I had great fun and figure "Hey, why not do it again?" only to find that the fun is no longer there due to friends leaving and stuff of that matter.

I honestly wish someone rich and smart could buy the planetside liscense from $OE and revamp the graphics, and give the mechanics some much needed tlc that the game deserves, then to polish it off, put some money into advertising. Planetside would have TONS more players if they did even a little marketing but $OE is just going to let planetside fizzle till even the last server only sustains the hardcore vets. Once that happens, $OE is just gonna pull the plug on that game and deal the final deathblow to the highest concentration of diehard planetside fans, who stuck out for better and worse, and even played on a near dead server. Which will be truly sad to see.
I remember how there were alot of players in Planetside, I used to play it alot, but im thinking about resubbing as well. Just because I loved the base assaults
Seeing as how I played in beta and still am now I guess I'm bias. It has seen better days in regards to pops and this causes less diversity in the fights available. Other than that I've not played anything as good.
In fact I think I've always been looking for a PS/SWG hybrid (not for the ip as I hate SW but for the crafting and mechanics), that right there! They can have my credit card for keeps!
They say that gamers always look back with rose tinited glasses at their earlier played mmo's, personally I've always felt there is a very good reason for that. In this case the fuckers havn't made anything as good since.
