i wonder how do the doomsayers and haters will reply to this news.
Sounds like good news to me. A game that has been out for less than a year already adding in 4 classes and a ton of new content. Notice how I said classes and not new classes. Either way its a push in the right direction. That ontop of all the bug/balance fixes, i'd say mythic is right on track. Shoot maybe ill come back and take a peak at the new.
you want kudos for them adding in content that was supposed ot be there at launch? /scratches head.
there are about 50 threads from launch that predicted Mythic would release the content they took out when they needed the surge, and everyone would undoubtedly claim "woot, new content"...when in reality they're just giving you the content they origniinally should have included at launch. I predict in another couple months when morale is down they'll release two more cities and everyone left playing will look at it like it's the next WoW killer. Feed a starving man crums, and he'll think they're the best tasting crumbs ever.
This is good news. People are funny though, people wanted the classes cut put back in, they do, they wanted a df style dungeon they re doing it, etc etc and still complaining. The game isn t perfect of course but they re doing a good job implementing things to make it more an ORVR game but still not lacking on the pve. All in all i really like how the game is coming along, when it launched i quit when the 30 days were up, but have been back a bit and generally people seem much happier in game and are happy the direction they re taking.

You really need to learn to respect the company for what it does, not what you think it should've done. Yes, the content was supposed to be in at launch, but it wasn't for various reasons. Now focus on how they're putting it back in - mainly how quickly and how they're not charging seperately for it.
I think they're listening to the community, especially with some kind of endgame RvR-control influenced dungeon with Tomb Kings - RvR more important like in DAoC and another lore faction put in at the same time, two birds with one stone. The way they're going about this "expansion" is different as well. Instead of trying to cram all the content into an expansion pack and charge you $30-50 for it in June, they're adding bits of it in over the next 6 months and it's all free. Why can't other games do that?
Now, this isn't as big as other "expansion packs", that's true, and maybe when Mythic adds a whole 'nother area, they'll sell it seperately. But I think this is the best system of improving the game without leeching extra money from your playerbase.
Just my two cents on the whole thing - I think this was a good step forward and just hope Mythic can implement everything well

As Ascension mentions, WoW is the perfect example of an MMO not delivering what it promised, and succeeding regardless. WoW promised battlegrounds, honor system, sieges and hero classes. It launched without any of these, extremely thin PvE leveling content at 45+ as well as non-functioning end-game (similar to how WAR's end-game has a lot of issues). It launched with no PvP content whatsoever, and it would take a year before battlegrounds and the honor system were added, and as mentioned it took FOUR years for hero classes to make an appearance, and it was only 1, and 1 that you had to pay for.
Mark was very up-front when he announced the cuts in good time ahead of launch, and stated he couldn't promise we'd even get the careers, although he mentioned he'd like to see them make it into the game.
Mythic really delivers, and that's what matters to me. Hell I even enjoyed WoW for multiple years
1/ 2 new classes, one of them being brand new (slayer was not beta tested).
2/ Darkness falls dungeon. Excellent.
3/ 3 New events. Great!
4/ Mark mentioned a first pass at keep upgrades. Nice.
5/ Mark also mentioned a redesining of the interior of keeps and especially fortresses. Sweet.
6. Mark also mentioned that there will be a patch in early February.
Everything seems pretty damn fine to me. My only problem is that the darkness falls dungeon wont be added before June and the classes I think will be added in March. I wish they could add these features sooner; we need more content urgently in t4 and I am afraid quite a few peeps may be burned out till summer. I may well be one of them, although I am a war fan and currently active player. Overall I am excited with the changes and I think they dungeon will provide a great boost to replayability and rvr.
PS: I will never understand why Mythic decided to be active and post only in the VN boards. They are by far worst boards I have ever come across. MMorpg.com is a kindergarden compared to them. The amount of whining going on is unbelievable. They claim that all these additions are nothing but fluff...? Biggest PR disaster of gaming ever? Srsly what's wrong with those people? They are just trolling Mark. I mean, Mythic's patches have been great so far, give them a break ffs.

You get that with every MMORPG. It's a good thing that Mythic will be getting their own forums though.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
You get that with every MMORPG. It's a good thing that Mythic will be getting their own forums though.
Heh. You are right. But it is so annoying how some so called "gamers" take things for granted. Oh guys, here is a new rvr dungeon! "Bah, boring we expected you to add it!". Oh ok, well here are the two classes we promised you! "Meh, we dont care, you are just adding fluff!". But we are working on rvr improvements, fortress sieges and adding incentives. "Nah, you are just being lazy and slow!".
WAR sure is no perfect game, but its a sad day that mythic's effort is ignored by a bunch of forum whiners seeking instant gratification. Other developers did much, much worse and they did not recieve such treatment.

To be fair. It's not like people are whining because they want *that* stuff *now*. They are whining because they were expecting something entirely different. Mark was on the VN on threads about bugs and problems with the game and kept saying "Just wait till 29th of January" "just wait till", basically building up people's expectations that something would be said on a lot of that stuff.
He even mentioned there would be details about balance, bugfixes etc etc. And then this comes, an announcement with no details about any current issues whatsoever, just an announcement with (very interesting mind you) stuff far into the future, a few events in between and basically "we're working on it" on everything else.

I see your point, but I still find today's anouncement to be satisfactory. I can't think of something that Mark could have posted to prevent the unnecessary flaming that's going on right now. Most VN posters obviously wanted a long list of patch notes to discuss about, true, and I admit I expected patch notes too. But I found the news of adding an rvr dungeon more exciting myself. Besides, Mythic always tries to balance classes and constantly provides bugfixes so I don't see why should be the prime focus of an important anouncement anyway. An expasion arc, as Mark likes to call it, seems more important than yet another long list of patch notes. What should he do? Post patch notes that are yet untested? There are already interviews of upcoming rvr changes, and mark noted that the team is looking into CC changes and fortress layout issues. I can't see how he can be more specific than this.

Probably because quite a lot of those people have been Mythic customers longer than some of the people on MMORPG and sites like it have even been gaming. They are the ones who know the complexies of oRvR and how it should work. They were his original Beta testers that even made a game like Warhammer possible. Because they poke and prod him with sticks, its the reason you and other people here can go "Ohhh look honey... a Murder event is coming!... Slayers.. OMG! WOW!" and just focus on live events that tickle your fancy bone, while they are giving the proper feedback of what's wrong with classes and siege areas. They worry about the meat and potatoes of WAR, so you can enjoy the fluffy creme filling of the game and insult "haters" for dessert.
They get out of line, but you have to remember, a LOT of those guys already KNOW MJ from DAoC very intimately because with that game, he used to talk a LOT. Makes no sense for him to go to a forum where people who know little about gaming and think everything is great or there are a "few problems to iron out" are just happy that MJ actually "spoke" to them! Woot! WAAAGGGH! Please.. jockriders.
Why do you think MJ doesn't speak here? Its because the WAR board here used to be full of kiss butts. He gets that over at WHA and there are more sets of lips... why would he come here too?
He goes to VN because there is an awful lot of gaming know how with those ex-DAoC people and he knows it. They hold his feet to the fire, but he actually gets most of his good ideas from people over there. The WAR board here is all "You don't know.. MJ is doing a great job. Mythic is a great company. You suck. Go get a life. Go find a game you like and .. blah blah blah."
Just mostly fandom here so again, WHA gives him that already. I underlined your quote above to show exactly why MJ doesn't waste time with the WAR fans here.. exactly.
Anyway, he said this today over there.. read it for yourself:

There are a lot of people here who like/love our game and continue to post interesting ideas, bugs, etc. and so, it's a good place for me to be as well.

All they post on these WAR boards is "OMGZZZ! Bestest game ever!" WAAAGGGH!
Well, at least you got to hear it from MJ.. through another board.
You really need to learn to respect the company for what it does, not what you think it should've done. Yes, the content was supposed to be in at launch, but it wasn't for various reasons. Now focus on how they're putting it back in - mainly how quickly and how they're not charging seperately for it.
No, I really don't. I was invited into beta in one of the earliest rounds, back in June of 07, right after friends and family. I played the crap out of the beta and was actually a tester, not someone just looking to play for free for 18 months. The lies that Mark perpetrated about the removed classes (that they wanted to release "perfect classes", and that the 4 removed just weren't that way based on beta feedback was a bold face fabrication. With the exception of the Blackguard, the Choppa, Hammerer, and KoTBS were three of the most complete classes at the time. They fell behind on the blackguard is my guess, and instead of working on that they launched early to get the jump on WotLK, which I understand. But the reasoning sickens me to this day, blaming beta testers for the decision, when in reality the majority of the testers never even played since the classes were never put back in beta when they took the beta down for a compelte revamp of the game because the intial iteration was pretty awful.
So no, I have no sympathy for Mythic. I think it was a very cautiously premeditated decision that they'd get the jump on WotLK with an incomplete game, and then hopefully pull some people back once they lost their initial boost by "introducing" content they had ready months earlier. A shrewd business decision? Maybe, judging by posts like yours. But frankly, I don't like being lied to (and then the real kick in the teeth having a bunch of people who don't knwo better applaud Mark's "honesty"), and being made the scapegoat. And mark my words, the other cities are ready as well, but they'll hold that back as well so they can show you what great work they're doing 3-6 months fro now when they need another jolt to save subsciptions.
No, I don't need to learn to respect the company for what it does, because frankly they might be the most dishonest company I've ever experienced, specifically because they spit in your face, and then have you thank them for cleaning it. Mark's a wonderful spin doctor, I'm sure he was a very good lawyer...but he didn't fool everyone.

Shrug, that's your opinion and I respect it. I have my own and it hasn't changed.
Edit: While the above mindset is unfortunately rare on these forums, let me elaborate a bit. Say what you claim is all true, and Mythic had the content ready but chose to delay it to make a quick buck, then reinsert it later on when subscriptions fell. That's a business practice and they took a risk if they made that decision. They could've easily lost all or most of their subs by now, so many that they had to cancel the game. If things had turned out that way, they would've lost. However, so far, if you're right, their strategy seems to be working.
And personally, I also think the game released a bit too early. But am I glad they're adding the content back in so quickly? Yeah. If you're right, Mythic took a gamble and no matter how dishonest/evil you think they may be, it was a business decision. I understand how you feel so, again, think whatever you want.

Personally I am excited about the news; however, I never worry about doomsayers and haters. I think WAR is probably the best casual MMO out there.
1-You dont have to raid every night to be competitive.
2- If you want PvP you get it.. plain and simple.
3- Class balance is almost there, but much better than ANY other MMO
I think WAR is heading on the right direction. Of course thats my opinion
DOOOOOOOOOOM!
hehehe...great job mythic!
With their usual volume of spittle, vitrol, and viral marketing for their chosen games. Best to not respond
seems that mythic is attempting to listen to their customers

Read the VNboards, Doom haters seem to have no problem with this "big announcement"
Steroids aren't exactly a good thing.
This is the current mood on the VNboards:

On a sidenote, MJ says he's working on more notes right now. Apparently he had a busy morning... (and apparently no time at all the last few weeks )

What the addition of 2 more classes will add to the gameplay?
I don't think that the lack of classes is the biggest problem for WAR.
Yes nice add, but nothing really groundbreaking.
If you think about it, those 2 classes were supposed to be launched at release, so they are months late.
I don't want to be a doomsayer, I just don't see why haters should be worried about this news.
ROFLMAO!
Dang, that was some sad vioin playing in the background too.

All they post on these WAR boards is "OMGZZZ! Bestest game ever!" WAAAGGGH!
Well, at least you got to hear it from MJ.. through another board.
"TO MICHAEL!"

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
