I agree with the others that this isn't the return of the game that SWG was before NGE. Honestly I don't really think that Bioware should make that game, cause it's not what they are good at. Bioware is good at making a good story. If they can figure out how to do that and still make a good MMO, then I'll give this one a go. I haven't played a Bioware game I didn't like, so hopefully this one won't be the exception.
i was causually scrolling down the game list when i saw this second star wars title....i did a double take...let it sink in....and then smiled from ear to ear. i love starwars i lost hope a year after the nge went through and i thoughtthe star wars mmo days were done....so i have to say just how excited i am i would love to hear from other swg vets who are as excited as i am this is very very good news....and i've never signed up for a beta before but if i can get into this one im there with the way soe did galaxies...it's hard for me to envision a fix on that game that would safice...and i alwaysthought they needed to try it again from scratch.....so here we go!!!!!!!
This game is going to be like WoW and guildwars made a baby and dressed it up in a Starwars costume.
Don't think you will like this one if ur a fan of the pre-CU

Sadly, this Star Wars game is going to be more singleplayer than anything else. Bioware makes great singleplayer games, not MMOs. You're going to have an NPC party, its going to be heavily story and instanced based, not the SWG you've been waiting for, or any of us really. Oh yeah, and it has item shops, meaning, if you want the good gear, pay real money for it.
Why is it sad? I think it is fabulous. Bioware is good at making SP games, why not play to their strength?
There will be some grouping, and a lot of chatting .. and i am 100% fine with this as long as it is an entertaining game.

It took me a year of being really angry before I realized I didn't want pre-cu back. I wanted a NEW SW MMO. I’ve said it many times over the years. Rollback was not going to be anything SOE would do. I gave up on SWG, because even if they did rollback, unless they used a time machine it wouldn't bring my old friends back who left because of broken promises like the launch of JTL, the change to the CU, the NGE, and the launch of WoW. Most of the people I knew who left for WoW never came back for some reason even though they were fans of Star Wars, and at one time liked SWG. Well, I went back thru the TOR forums, my guild forums, and some other SWG sites and it looks like they are all expecting to try TOR.
There is much soloable heresy being spoken here and many linear and theme park infidels trying to convert us to their evil ways. I say nay brothers! Take up the saber of Koster and strike down their twisted evil!
We shall all be there, Knights of the old pre-cu alongside the knaves of the NGE and the dogsbodies of the World of Wankers! We must live together and to do that I propose the we bring back roleplaying to MMOs. If the game provides an enviroment that encourages roleplay we may live side by side and have fun.
If not then we the Knights of the old Pre-CU must begin conversion by the saber, until all infidels are brought under the yoke!
DEUS VULT!

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
Bioware has that " Midas Touch ", anything they touch turns to gold. For those who actually have played Bioware games know this and for the ones who don't will soon find this out
I keep seeing people say we know nothing about the game yet. Now I could be wrong, and if I am an am sorry, but I thought I remember reading a few things about it. I am too lazy to check but I'm sure some more dedicated Wars fan will and please do prove these false is they are. This is what I thought I remember reading. The whole game is soloable. The game will have solo aspects, but there will be group play and group missions to advance storylines, so no the whole game is not soloable. You have a npc helper and don't need to group. You companion toons will be there to add to your story, and will leave you if they feel you aren't meeting their expectations or their morales/ideals. So they seem more as an addition to a story rather than a "group" replacement. It puts us into the role of the action hero with the story unfolding around us. You also decide where you story is going to lead to, and the factors decided upon by you.....you wanna be the sith lord who tries to take down the sith from within, playing a good guy in the process fior the republic, you can, want to be a republic officer out for the greater good, or secretly working from within, you could. All your actions will dictate how your story unfolds, and you can't undo it. Devs have stated no 2 stories or missions will ever be alike. I thought I remember reading this stuff on the site. If this is what they said then this is sounding like NGE like. Given I think Bio would make a NGE type SW game that was of WOW quality. The questions is do we want another wow type game or something more.
just some clarifications from dev interviews.
Good clarifications Miagi. That's been my impression as well. Also, we had npc companions in SWG pre-cu in the form of pets and faction rewards (rebel soldier etc.). It didn't replace grouping, and added a fun dimension to the game.
I think the whole story concept, with variable outcomes, is going to be revolutionary for this genre in a very positive way. These guys are not thinking about making a fast buck at the expense of gaming addicts. They're creating something worth experiencing; at least this seems to be the intent at this point. Here's hoping some get rich quick minded business exec doesn't torpedo this thing at the eleventh hour. In my experience, Bioware won't allow it. In the past, they've told publishers to find another mule if that's their plan. I hope they stay the course. IF LEC does not interfere with Bioware's vision, this will be amazing.
In the hands of anyother company I'd be annoyed we weren't getting another shot at an improved pre-cu (I still am a bit). However Bioware are the best RPG maker out there, now they're crossing over to multi-player from single player and I expect them to use the same excellence with this that they have for everyother game.
I just want to know if I can explore the insides of a player Jedi/Sith with my Mandalorian carbine!

The game is going to be nothing like SWG pre-nge. It won't be sandbox. It'll be more like WoW with jedi. Not saying it won't be good. Just saying if you're an SWG pre-nge vet/fan, this game isn't going to give you what you miss.
Exactly. SWTOR is going to be a huge disappointment. Shame on you Bioware for making a WoW version of Star Wars.
Bioware has that " Midas Touch ", anything they touch turns to gold. For those who actually have played Bioware games know this and for the ones who don't will soon find this out
Except the Jade Empire of couse which turned out to be just plain crap.

You mean in your opinion it was crap, myself and many others enjoyed it, at least we are backed up by great sales and great reviews while all you have is your opinion.
Yeah and we all know that the more it sells the better it is, like Brittney Spears and all that crap.
For me the game was way too linear with invisible walls everywhere and the combat was stiff. I'm not a fan of asian mythology either.

Which is, of course only YOU opinion. It has a 89 score on metacritics and anyone i know who has played that game think otherwise.
I would much rather trust myself and metacritics then someone who just want to rant on bioware because they are not making a sandbox game.

Sadly, KOTOR Online isn't really an MMO and will hold next to no similiarities to Star Wars Galaxies (in any of its incarnations.)
KOTOR Online is just another (very huge) KOTOR game, with some co-op additions. Its NOT "living in the star wars galaxy" like SWG's original vision was meant to be.

It is the only game from BioWare that I haven't liked so far and I'm not asking for sandbox, FFA pvp or anything like that.
I guess it is "OK" RPG game for consoles but it felt way too simplified, linear and boring to my tastes and on top of that the theme was asian mythology.
Tried to play it as a mage but I guess you just have to be some kung-fu ninja in it since the mana or chi or what ever didn't regenerate.
In regards to SWG devs being on the Bioware team for this, do you think if we took most of them back in time and put them to work on that again, they would do SWG the same? Sure, some vets loved it, a lot of them wanted to burn Sony to the ground with everyone who worked on that project in it.
The kind of endless hate SWG inspired in a lot of people would make me think twice about doing the same thing again. Or maybe, just maybe, the people who own and run the company, you know, Bioware, might have some input as well as these SWG devs. "Rattle that around in your brain box a bit."
Wouldn't it be something if they made their own game without the assistance of the fans and their great ideas? Would be nice to be surprised by something new and innovative.

Heh this person done called the vets "butthurt".
What really makes ya laugh is when ya realize that "butthurt" is probably "hitting the nail squarely on the head" in any topic pertaining to them. After all, it would take being "butthurt" to carry on for over 3 years about a game. Would take some major body violation, I would have to imagine, to whine this long.
I am glad I was among the majority of gamers that felt that the PRECioUs was a game I wasnt going to buy at launch. Due to the bad word of mouth from beta, most folks knew to avoid it like the plague. I say most, cause obviously some bought it anyways. Not all PRECioUs players were MMO nOObs that had no clue coming in.
Shame they wont go support games being made in their fashion nowadays, and leave this forum to those that wanted an action MMO, out of the SW IP, the first time around. We waited all this time, and now rather than enjoying talking about this game, this forum is dealing daily with this type of BS post that only incites flames.
That is of course assuming that TOR wont be another sandbox...but that assumption is looking to be fact the closer to beta/launch we get.
I imagine we will see these "I want SWG" threads increase as more info about TOR is released.
As the OP indicated...they(along with some other vets) have been anticipatiing PRECioUs 2 since word about Bioware started leaking in 06. It wont surprise me to see more than "butthurt" posts as it becomes solidified what type of game TOR will be. I am anticipating downright psychotic responses from them when their bubble is finally completely flattened.
We have seen glimpses of their frustrations since TOR was officially announced...but IMO this is the tip of the iceburg. You see several of them now constantly calling folks out because they dont wanna have SWG2 as well.
This is while they still have some hope BIoware will include their type of gameplay in TOR.
Take away that last shred of hope they have, and I think things in here are gonna get real messy.
Oh well...should make for some entertaining reading. Even if it is the same old tired chit ala the OP.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

In any event the next year promises some exiting debate&development.
Bioware: Player housing was never a part of the deal !!!
Player Community: We are altering the deal, pray we don't alter it any further...
Except the Jade Empire of couse which turned out to be just plain crap.
True, but there are a lot of former SWG devs on the Bioware project. Something to rattle your brain box a bit, there. Enjoy!
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Mmmmmmm, so many hopes and dreams, cant wait to read the posts after launch.
