I can remember back in the days of my last years of High school (yea, i'm not THAT old) being a veteran player of EQ1/DAoC and having spent countless hours on my playstation playing FF7 and FFT, I thought FF11 was going to be AMAZING (and i'm not knocking the game, it was amazing, but read on).
So I get the game, install it , blah blah, Playonline BS and all that, great. Tiem to start playing my Taru Taru Dark Knight, kickass. Wait... you have to unlock those specialty classes.. alright, I was gonna do DK/Warr anyways, so i'll play a Warr.
All goes well, I'm having A BLAST and then... BAM. Level 10.
My world shattered and I could not kill evenly con'd monsters.
At first I blamed myself, ah well I was 80% hp and the monster got a couple lucky hits. But after 3 consequetive deaths and a DE-LEVEL? I almost lost it, I've had some frustrating playing EQ and DAoC (I played on Rallos Zek and Mordred, both PvP) but I have NEVER had that tough of a time solo'ing. Ever, and unfortunately that combined with the fact that FF11 PvP was non-existant, I sadly moved on with a tear in my eye. (I went back to DAoC and honestly, I kept going back to it for the next 6 years until Mordred died, for the 5th time....).
However, nowadays... I feel the MMOs played have lost completely their sense of ALOT of time invested yields a true reward. Unfortunately, DAoC and EQ1 are dead to me. And I need a fresh start and have been looking, trying out weird games here and there. I played WAR hoping it'd have that DAoC spark, but they missed the nail by an inch, if you ask me. (Especially sans Mordred type server for me).
And now my eye has come back to that Gem is stuffed into the closet in a haste. And i'm wondering about the path not taken.
Anyways, TLDR;
I'm thinking of playing FF11, however I'm curious. Is the game still non solo friendly? I actually have a buddy of mine who wants to play the game, and we'll always be together, so more along the lines of is the game DUO friendly?
And if it is Duo friendly, how so, and how long would it take us to reach max level?
Just a curious guy looking around, like alot of other people it seems these days, for an MMO that can hold our attention for more then a week-month.

Pretty much, though in recent patches last fall Square introduced an increase to XP earned from mobs of Easy and Decent Prey. As well as a Level Sync that allows anyone of any level starting at 10 and above to group with each other.
You can now solo well into the 20s, maybe early 30s on almost any job, and on some all the way to lvl 75! As a duo you'd have no problems advancing beyond that if you're careful but it'll be slow. This is still a group enforced MMO and you will want to group cause even though you can solo longer it does take awhile but not as long as it used too.
Depends how much you play and group...solo takes a long while to 75 but even those jobs require a group at many parts starting at 50+. I personally have gotten a job to lvl 40 in about 2 weeks but I didn't sleep much{that was before the increased XP} and I know of some ppl that can take any job to 75 in under a week, but that requires a group at all times and knowing where to party and get the best XP. Have all your spells and weapons, armor ahead of time and ready to go which a new player starting out won't have is also a huge step ahead that the experienced players have.
If you're worried about it taking a short while like all the other MMOs and being bored once you get there, rest assured it will take you a long time and the end-game is massive. I'm not kidding when I say this; that if you tried to do everything FFXI offers it would take you the better part of 2-3 full years.
Give it a try if you want something hard and has endless things to do, you may like it more than ya think!
Exactly the answer I was looking, Thanks a ton
