But they are going to allow you to hire NPCs to go mine for you.... Go Figure! I have to see this to believe it .
Some games have automated mines. This sound like a nice solution to have something like this, but more in tone with the game background and medieval/fantesy setting it is played in.
I really don't think this engine can support pets. IMO
Why not?
Scripting the AI for the pets will be beyond there skill for this type of engine and you got to factor in the aggro of the mobs. Seen too many players getting owned by soloing already. Pets would be a disaster.....And remember pet's are not hardcore in the eye's of darkfall fans
They got there hands full as it is. why throw another wrench in the spokes.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

AI??? What kind of role are you thinking the pets will play?
The pet system I envisioned was more of a mouse point and click to attack/skill/magic.
I always was under the assumption based on Aventurine'sTasos' past interviews that this would be a pvp game that would allow for the user's personal gameplaying skills. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a pet system (and I guess if implemented in DF, would mean some "summoner-type skill tree(s)) in Darkfall be counter-intuitive to what Aventurine's goals were for this game to begin with? Your quote, "... incapable of implementing them properly." I would say contradictory of Darkfalls essential pvp environment goals. Face it, a pet system means A.I. controlled system vs. a players personal gameplay skills.
Ehh... no.
It depends on how it's done. Look at Guild Wars, you control your pets every move. It's just as playing your character only you have an extention of yourself to work with and that needs protection/planning.
Don't defend the case of no pets, it's just lame they can't add them. Maby in the future, but right now it feels very lame not being able to raise minions or have a pet to work with! It takes from the flavor of the game to many.
Your quote: "It depends on how it's done." Then yes I would have to agree with that statement. In the pvp environment as Aventurine has described, a pet system ala Hellgate where it's A.I. controlled then no. Which is the case I am making against a pet system. But if somehow they were, as you put it, akin to Guild Wars wherein the player controls every aspect and planning of their minions, then sure why not.
Your quote: "Don't defend the case of no pets, it's just lame they can't add them." Assuming they can't add them, or is it won't due to the particular nature in which AV has choosen to represent their game. Also by saying "... lame they can't add them." is an assumption set up to be read as fact. Personally I would have reworded that more along the lines of, "... unfortunate that they may not be able to implement any type pet/skill system." That way you're voicing an opinion instead of pretending to voice a fact (i.e., "... they can't add them.".
When it comes down to it, none of us can truly say if they can nor can't, or will nor won't implement a pet system. We just don't know.

You'r right, my apologies. But I really can't think of anything else that stops them but not being able to. due to whatever reason... copyrights? time? I dont know. It just seemed like an obvious add-on to have pets/minions in the game when I saw that you could be a necromancer. And that it is a sandbox game and that you can have mounts.
But maby we will be surprised and seeing pets anyway in the end? I sure hope so

That would work great if you want a very dumb downed AI pet system....no its not gonna be put in this game. There focus at this point should and will be hammering out the core of the game. They have not even fixed the sound system yet, so pet are out.

Simply put pets are for noobs and low skilled players!!!! There is no need for pets in a good pvp based game. The only players who like pet classes are the ones who cant make friends so they depend on their lil A.I. minions to do the work for them. Therefor if u want a pet go play Pokemon and leave the real pvp games to the real pvpers.

Yet in UO you could tame pets. Loved taming gorillas and wolves.
Pet users are not just 'noobs' as you put it. Some people like having a companion to their character. If your going by PvP, Nore does it have anything to do with the skill of said players. its just a little bit more challenge in a fight. Problem is when it comes to some people who claim they are 'hardcore pvpers' they seem to get a tad squeemish when it comes to a little added challenge.
Also its a skill based game, which would in term require pet use to need skill points. Unless DFO is using unlimited skill points, this would severely gimp another skill if someone were to pool points into it.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

I agree
We should all run around naked and fight with our fist. Clearly using a sword and armour is for noobs and low skilled players!

Pft, Skilled players dont log into childish video games. They have fight clubs.
I would tell you all about them, but we are not allowed to talk about them....

Wow 2 whole posts in 2 1/2 years and the second one was a typical sycophantic fawnboi post for DF.
Nice to see you are so objective in your responses. Have you been working on that comeback since DF was announced in 2001? At the rate you post you should work for Aventurine.
BTW go tell an Enchanter, necro, SK or Mage from EQ that they were noobs. Let me guess you were a bad ass uber "can" and don't need anyone else except for your pocket pussy healer and got your ass handed to you on the Zek servers by the "pet" classes.
