About Gilded Compass

Below is the general guild information.  Please feel free to stop by, and apply if interested or just bookmark the site to keep up with player run events.  All events will be planned and displayed publicly via the calendar on the website.  We welcome pirates, mercenaries, and any other clans that want to help organize events.  There is a public area on the forum for discussion.  Thanks!!

Gilded Compass is a mature guild that aims to excel in trade, crafting, exploring, gambling, and hosting social competitive events. Gilded Compass will accept all races and players who have similar ideals and goals as the guild. The guild will work as one unified organization with a common goal. Gilded Compass believes strongly in supporting other guilds, and players of Darkfall by providing them with work, entertainment, and trade goods at affordable prices. While the guild aims to be a peaceful guild it knows that conflict, and war, cannot always be avoided. Gilded Compass will not take aggression lightly, and will use the fortune it amasses to employ mercenary guilds both for protection and retaliation when necessary.

Gilded Compass will provide a mature, comfortable, and relaxed environment for its members. Voice chat will not be required. The guild believes that competent players can learn to work as a team, and know their role without coordination through voice chat. Gilded Compass will try to employ members of all nations, races, and play styles and hopes to have active members on at all times, but will never place a requirement on how much time needs to be spent. Guild events will take place often and will be both planned, and on the fly. Attendance will never be mandatory. Gilded Compass believes that players will fall into the role that they wish to fill and will not ask any member to fulfill a particular role, but instead provide them with the opportunities to do what they enjoy within the ideals of the guild.

Gilded Compass is not a role play guild, but will not condemn it in any way. The members shall have the freedom to choose how they want to act in game. However, the guild will perform many roles and actions that may be seen as a type of role play. While there is universal banking the guild will still employ captains, and run ships along trade routes to racial city harbors. This is to provide action for pirates, employment for mercenaries that the guild will hire for protection, and if the ship arrives safely all of the trade goods on board will be sold off for very low prices. The guild hopes to make these trade runs and delivery of goods known to many to create a fun and dynamic environment for the guilds members, and other guilds and players. This applies to land based trade routes as well. The trade route runs will be posted publicly for all to see under the calendar section of the Gilded Compass website.

Gilded Compass hopes to provide a fun and dynamic experience for all members and other players across Agon. The main goal is to have fun, promote fun, and create those epic moments in game that stick with you for the rest of your life.

Roles that Gilded Compass looks to employ:

  • Crafters
  • Gatherers
  • Explorers
  • Traders
  • Smugglers
  • Sailors
  • Captains (Of every race for piloting the guilds ships between racial capitals and the guild city)
  • Runners (Of every race)
  • Diplomats
  • Hunters
  • Bookies
  • Spies
  • Scouts
  •  Cartographers

Assets that Gilded Compass will obtain:

  • A Clan City with Harbor
  • A Fleet of Ships for running trade routes
  • A large amount of gold for organizing events, payouts, and lottery
  • A large amount of gold for guild ship replacements, and member rewards
  • A large stockpile of equipment for members

Events that Gilded Compass will attempt to organize:

  • Trade routes. The guild will have captains pilot ships from the guild city and various other ports to other ports around Agon. These will be announced, and scheduled allowing the guild to employ mercenaries for protection, and pirates to attempt to acquire the trade goods on board. Upon arrival into the destination harbor the goods will be sold off at incredibly cheap prices. There will also be land trade routes that will be carried out in a similar fashion.
  • Regattas, or Sea based ship sailing races of varying length. These could be a race around a small island, or around the whole of Agon.
  • Mounted land races of varying length. Again these could be races between some player cities, or much larger.
  • Scavenger hunts of varying length.
  • Gladiatorial arena based tournaments.
  • Gambling on all previously mentioned events.
  • More to come as the guild irons out existing events and player feedback.

Some examples of planned events have been discussed pretty thoroughly on the official forum, and the links are:

I love the ambition!  The planned events sound sick.  Going to send an app your way.  It looks like you have a lot of non combat focus, but what if we want to fight?

Hey thanks.  We are overly ambitious, but I think it'll work out.  Look forward to having you.

As far as fighting we will have a lot more of it than meets the eye.  While we are primarily a guild focusing on trading/exploring/treasure hunting/crafting/event hosting we will have mercenaries for a number of tasks, spies, and other secretive things.  There will definitely be a private sub group of our guild that will handle any of our dirty work.  Our goal is to become insanely wealthy so that we can hold these events, and to do that we will need to fight, and be damn good at it.

Hmmm website seems to be down  Looks quite enticing so far... But as far as not being military orientated... How do you plan on keeping raids at bay if you are planning on being  an explorer/merchant/crafter aka psuedo-passive guild?

Yeah the host hiccuped for a bit, but it should be back up now.  We will all be able to fight.  I think it is necessary to survive in Agon.  While it won't be our goal to go out and invade other guilds cities or hamlets, we will still be a competent and strong group of players who will defend our land.  Most of our roles are sort of side jobs where the players will still be very competent fighters.

We also already have an alliance with numerous mercenary guilds who have offered to help provide protection for our guilds, and for our guild events.  Some offer it for free at first to build their reputation and help get the events up and running.  We will also have a very private and secretive combat arm of the guild because many of our ideals require it.

We may appear passive, but any who cross us, no matter the size, will pay in numerous ways.  Our goal is to amass a great wealth, and in these games wealth grants great power.

Bonus: We picked up a beta tester who is trying to get the guild into beta!

So you will have say a "Special Forces" group that will go out and secretly destroy your enemies? Like a team who only answers to the leader or something?

while i love the stronger leaning towards noncombat roles in your guild i dont really see how the trade routes will work.  I have not read much about AH but (in most games) its worldwide and thus removes the need for the transport of such goods to and from depots.  If however it is not worldwide (sort of like SWG) then i can see the need for trade routes (and i think its a great idea).

i will strongly consider joining this clan if these trade routes are viable.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Right now there is a universal banking system.  We are still doing trade routes to create an environment where a large convoy can be pirated.  We are publicly announcing information about the trade routes to provoke pirates and robbers, and at the same time hiring mercs to protect the shipment.  This is all just to create a fun in game event.  I hope that they convert it to a money is universal only system where items are local, but if not we will still run the trade routes.

This is just one of a lot of different events we are planning including land and sea races, gladiatorial tournaments, runner hunts, scavenger hunts, etc.

Something like this yeah.  We will have a member who talks to the leader privately.  That member will lead a special group who will specialize in combat.  That member will basically lead the group like a sub guild, but will try execute orders from the higher ups.  Things like making an enemy guild pay.  One thing we talked about was if we have an enemy guild with a city having them sneak into the city and start using some of their buildings.  This will notify the guild that their stuff is being tampered with and they will come back, and then we will kill them.  The best part is we can cut off their bank, and they will be coming back from adventures with loot on them.  We will also use them for events, and they will lead any organized attacks we may have such as a full on city siege.  The leaders of the guild will become their followers in these types of situations.

... Then if the pirates come... You lose that shipment which maybe a valueable one... I cant say that I am a fan of that idea. You wont need to make it public pirates will just come as they see the ships, but none the less hiring security for the voyage wouldnt be such a bad idea... that way someone is still getting paid to protect... thus taking them out of the pirate equation...

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

The whole point is to lose the shipment in a way, or fight and protect it.  We are not running the trade routes with things we can't lose basically.  We plan on making a great deal of gold, having our crafters craft nice items, and have a decent booty.  We will hire Mercs (Some will work for free at the start) to protect us, and the information that we give out will be a region of destination and a rought time of delivery (maybe a 30 minute window).  That means the pirates will have to scout the area, try to find the convoy, and then overtake it including the Mercs.  If the pirates win then they deserve the loot.  If we make it safely then the goods will be sold at very good prices, and the Mercs will get a portion of the gold earned from the sales along with a portion of whatever items are left.  We will work out other deals with Mercs as well.  There are already about 5 Merc guilds who have expressed a desire to team up with us on this and they are pretty large guilds.

Our whole goal is to make a great amount of gold, and then turn around and put it back into the community via these events, gambling, etc.  Of course we will pocket a large amount of it to keep our members equipped nicely, and a city running smoothly.

Well since I am not in the beta... I have a little time to decide where me and my brother call home... So I will be putting some thought into it until the time comes when the game is actually released.

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

Definitely take the time.  It is an important choice.  I do suggest you get with a guild though if you want to get into beta.  They opened clan beta apps again and they are definitely getting priority.  Clans are much less likely to just be trolls than individuals I guess.

We applied for clan beta yesterday, but you can find a number of pre launch guilds to help your beta chances.

  • sketchiesketchie Member Posts: 28

Well I would have to say that you are the best looking mob around so far... How many members do you actually have?

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

18 now, with another app coming shortly.  We are young though.  The guild was founded on Sunday by 3 of us, and we have already grown to 18.  I am sure there will be kinks to work out and the number will drop a bit at launch.  We want to get a tight knit group together though, and recruit heavily in game as well.  You are welcome to join and make a decision after launch if you want to actually join the in game guild.  Right now though you can help shape the guild.  We want to be run as a democracy with no specific leader, but instead a group of leaders where every members vote counts.

Also as we grow more solid in game I will give up my sole admin of the website to some other leaders of the guild.  At that point I won't have any power that other members don't also have.

LOL thanks, now all I have to do is repeatedly put in beta apps on the DF website so I can see what the actual game is all about LMAO!

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

I have a good feeling we will get more into beta soon.  We have one so far.  Check in the forums for some special guild exclusive videos coming soon to address your needs.  Videos on how to style a yorkshire terrier's mane of course.

I have to say i'm quite impressed with your guild. I have two question though before i decide if to apply:

Are you accepting people from all over or is this exclusively an american guild? I usually play on the North American servers with little to no lag at all so lag isn't much of an issue in other games i have played.

Will you be moving to a NA server when the game launches these servers or are you staying on the european servers?

    Thanks in advance .

Glad you are interested!  We are a multinational guild with members from the UK, Bulgaria, New Zealand, GA, PA, NY, MI, NE, AZ, TX, FL.  I am one of the founders right now but as we get rolling the guild will become a democracy with multiple leaders.  The guild will vote as a whole on what to do when NA servers are opened.  If even one player wants to transfer then they will be fully supported with help recruiting and getting the guild up on both versions.

Short answer is:  The guild will decide as a whole when the time comes.  If we split and run the guild on both versions then I will likely play on both versions for some time to recruit and get the guild going.

*With the current sieging system it is vital to try to have members online 24/7, and we will always be going for that.
