And about the vets killing SWG? You have no clue, please do some research.

I agree on your assessment in regards to the impact of having no player interaction through inter-dependancy.

But in a way some vocal SWG players did ironicaly "kill" SWG. They whined about Jedi being too hard to unlock, about the long travel times, about class "inbalance" because they lost a duel and did not realise that their ranger was not meant to defeat a BH...

Problem was the devs listened and made all the wrong decisions.

Also because of the latest video which btw is about tython the planet where the jedi order was formed so of course its all about jedi since it is their starter world as they stated which is cool because that means other classes are going to have their own starter worlds like sith force user on korriban.  So I assume republic soldier class will be on coruscant as the starter world, BH/smuggler maybe on tatooine or something.  And these are worlds too not just small starting areas like in WoW.

They have said there would be other classes, but until they say what those are this is just the reaction. I can't think of one MMo where it hasn't been the same. People want class information. At least we know their wont be any Paladins, ect. XD. What I would like to see is them start off with a few types of classes, then add more (free) as time goes on or even sub classes to go with you class. Most people IRL have more than one skill, even if the second is just a hobby. I want some real diversity.

If they add that later, I'm ok with that.

A good dev listens to the players and then decides what is in the best interest of the game, they should take some classes from CCP.

Well I look at it this way. I see people flaming WOW all the time but yet WOW has 10+mill happily enjoying their game. The same thing will happen here. You will get the happy players of TOR enjoying their game and you will stil get the flamers. I take those SWG vets who complain about TOR with a grain of salt. They really need to just get over it and move on.

I am tired being bashed as SWG fan just because I have an opinion. Why is an opinion less valuable because it is based on experience with game X? EVERYONE has expectations based on previous MMOs, ours is SWG others have others, so what?

Sheesh, its so dull to put the blame on some fangroup. Besides, its just not true that all SWG fans have a bad opinion on TOR. Or that all SWG fan have the same opinion anways! Each of us has something else he/she liked or disliked about SWG.

For instance, believe it or not, I loved being a dancer, and entertainer is the one sole profession I really will miss in TOR, since I dont believe its going to be there. If I had to decide whether TOR had either Jedi or Entertainers it would at least be a very difficult decision for me.

I am happy I was there when that scandal went down. The uproar was simply fun to watch.

I have a gut feeling about CCP and scandals....I believe CCP purposefully commits or at the very least foments these scandals in order to shake up the dynamic of the game from time to time.

It is a matter of fact that these scandals have sent  shockwaves across gaming commuties and garnered a great deal of....PUBLICITY...even in the mainstream media.(many players I know actually love the game more after these scandals)

I am probably wrong..I mean why would any company want negative press?

My answer..Well it is CCP we are talking about here.

Iceland+a loony day / night cycle+frigid temperatures+a bunch of drunken vikings= "Olaf lets launch a scandal on the community!" "Huzzah!! Sven, that sounds like fun. Woot!( insert assorted alcohol induced crazy talk and cheering)

The game will be forced out by Electronic Arts and it will be severly dissapointing.

Of course I could be wrong...

It's so funny how some people here have all these facts of what will and will not be in TOR, when the only thing that has been released is a few videos and some screen shots.

People need to relax and take the little information the devs give out every Friday as not the whole picture but a small snippet of a grander scheme.

When the game comes out and if you are a SWG vet and or a current player, and decides to try it out and it's not for you, then uninstall. It is that simple.

The game won't be for everyone. As much as i loved old SWG, i am looking at TOR with refreshing eyes. The only people i see bitching and moaning about TOR is SWG vets that know, when TOR is released, it will pull even more people from SWG, and i would asume that is something they don't want to see.

If SWG goes under, then they will lose all the things that they have clung on to for all these yrs. This is the reasoning i believe they cry for TOR to be more of a SWG2. So if that happens, they can make an easy switch  into a new game that would be almost what they have now, but with a full and healthy community.

To the op. Don't worry about SWG fans. In the bigger picture, there are millions of SW fans that never even played SWG, but with the right push and advertising will try out TOR.

Only EA can kill this game. SWG fans are the some of the ones contributing to the millions upon millions of dollars of free advertising. Theres only a handful of people crying its not like pre-cu. The only reason they get attention here is because people give it to them. And until Bioware wants to spill the beans, everyone is free to speculate and describe their dream SW mmo, whether it be like WOW or pre-cu. Not, sure why people cant enjoy the discussion and debate rather than being mean to people they disagree with. Who cares if people say they want a replica of WOW..why not have fun trying to change thier mind rather than disregarding them.

Lets not take the Vanguard approach to community building. You can trash the devs and the publisher, and even the game, just be nice to each other here. If this game isnt a smash hit, a good commuinty may be one of its only selling points..like LOTRO. There were tons of people upset about middle earth online, they did the same thing as  some pre-cu vets when they changed the direction in dev. they came to the forums and complained. They werent met with hostility, and the lotr community didnt get a bad rep for being a dick with anyone who doesnt prasie the game. meh just rambling..something to think about i guess.

On a side note...i seriously can't wait to hear the sound of my first saber when i first light her up. You guys are crazy if you're gonna miss that over some linear/sandbox hang up. This is a once in a lifetime gaming experience, just like swg was. If ya missed that or didnt "get it" when it was around..thats a shame. Would be a shame to miss it this time. However, you should remain very skepticle at this time..there is still a good chance EA will make this game blow. Looks like TOR is their last bet for any significant long term revenue boost. Who knows how they will whore it, or if they'll just leave Bioware alone. We'll see i guess.

    See you in the dream..

As a former SWG player, I found this pretty insulting. Especially considering that everybody on the planet knows that SWG was actually killed by the legions of WoW players that magically did not appear to replace all the outgoing SWG players.

And the weapons are way too big in this game! Clone Wars serie have better looking ones then this!

I hope they don't make it cartoonish like it is today. I hope they have more classes then SWG have today. I hope they have an open world. I hope there is a long hard quest or whatever to become a Jedi. I hope they have better looking weapons. I hope they have better looking characters. I hope they don't have so much people with tights. I hope they don't make it too much solo, it is a mmorpg right? And I hope they try come up with something new, not looking at WoW and think that if they do like WoW they will also get 11,5 million players!
    I hope a lot! =D

Yay, a man with a brain and toughts and he is not an SWG fanboi!

And by the way, the IGNORANCE of EA, LA and BioWare is killing SWTOR not the remaining few 10 thousands preCU SWG fans.

The game looks good so far, and I do plan on trying ti when it comes out. However I believe the SWG fans are a good thing for this game. Maybe not the rabid ones so much , but the ones that can get ideas across and added to SWTOR. Things like housing , good crafting , etc etc. I believe they are our last hope of making this game less of a Wow clone than you know they plan on putting out. Sure they have some original ideas , but come on ... they don't plan on deviating too far from Wow. They plan on making money ... and lots of it. And they should , its a Star Wars IP.

I hope the game is fun.  If it's fun, I don't care if it's like WoW, cartoonish, solo friendly, has people in tights, or whatever.  Just make the game fun.  If they do this, everything else will fall into place.

If you're talking about visuals I agree with you, if you talk about design and game mechanics I personaly don't like it.

Too bad, that nothing will get through, these are the same ignorant fools, the mamangent who screwed up SWG,  then left SOE in 2005 to from BioWare Austin to create NGE 2.0.  (and that's a fact not simply my opinion)

Huh?...what? Please don't assume here...the vast majority of real SWG(Pre-CU) vets ran screaming away from that Frankenstein monster of a game a long, long time ago. If SW:TOR were to end it,most of us would probably consider it a mercy killing.

then dude, what are ya doing here? seriously. quit posting and don't buy the freakin thing. why do you even care about it?

as for everyone else. your an utter idiot if you think Bioware is gonna listen to any fanbois of anything, swg, wow, whatever in making there game.

bioware is only listening to 2 other people. LA representative in there studio, the EA representative in there studio, and themselves. thats it.

if bioware wants to make an swg2, so be it, im sure it'll be great. if they wanna make a star wars wow clone, so be it, i don't be playing but im sure others will.

people here asking for things, and telling them to shut up cause you don't want it, then don't come here, don't read it. cause no one wants to hear yout stupid wants and don't wants if you don't wanna listen to others. regardless, bioware isn't listening to any of you nor myself from the get go and likely never will.

  • miagisanmiagisan Member Posts: 5,156

i am not worried, bioware has always had enough of a backbone to tell people to F off if the game is being disrupted not to their liking. They usually stick with their guns pretty well.

I'm just begging that bioware holds true to their name and makes this game as good as the KOTOR games.  I miss playing the pre-cu SWG yes, but I want something new.  And not just new, but different, and bioware as always is looking to put their foot down and show us just that.  Myself being a SWG 'former fanboi' would to to express that those who are playing SWG now, good for you, I play it still too, but leave TOR alone and let it release it's open beta at least before judging it and 'flaming' this looking to be good game.

    LOL .. i would'nt worry.

There are so few of SWG fans that they won't matter in the market place. TOR is NOT shooting for a niche audience.

I don't know if they are successful or not but i am sure it will have little to do with hardcore people on this site. Just look at WOW. Does it care about some haters in a tiny site? Not really.

However, I digress, This is not a flame post, this is a post Begging the community to not judge this game before its released. No, this isn't a sandbox world, No, its certainly not a SWG2, but what it is, is an mmorpg built to entertain the inner starwars fan in all of us, and if its treated the same way SWG was when it was released, with critcism from day one, not taking even 5 minutes to marvel at and praise the developers for what they've accomplished, they'll tune us out, just as the devs at SOE had with the swg playerbase.

Basically Ignore them it is no secret that Bioware hates these bitter clowns anyway.  I loved what Dave Parker from Bioware  told one at Gen Con.

We are makign a Star Wars game for Star Wars fans not some sort of compensation to those who are still crying because they think SOE broke their Wookie.

He got a massive round of Applause for that. They don't matter TOR is going to be huge.

As far as what I quoted you on...you are dead wrong. Sony ruined it and admitted they ruined it not the loyal fanbase they alienated.

Secondly, any of those players who are pre-judging TOR before it comes out are morons. Most everyone I played with back in SWG is looking forward to giving TOR a try and hoping for the best..I hope it brings balance to the force...

People who say that SWG was an amazing game, a work of art(srsly?), and what not just totally confuse me. I played the game from the day of release until '06 and it was always buggy and things were always broken.

Don't get me wrong, I loved SWG because of the community. And it WAS the community that made it great, not the amazing clout of the developers. It's not as if they had divine inspiration when they made it. It was very much broken and buggy. Classes [professions, guiz] were horribly out of balance, and nearly each time they tried to repair that they ended up making one stronger than all of the others. So everyone and their mom went with the flavor of the month. I mean Commando had weapons that didn't even function correctly. I thought BHs had a raw deal but commando was like the red headed stepchild of SWG.

But on the subject at hand, I want TOR to be nothing like SWG except for a few of the more minor features. Housing, cantinas as a hangout spot, pets, vehicles, etc. All of that adds heaps to the community of a game. It gives them a way to feel attached to the game.

Man is born, man lives, man dies, and its all vanity.

The Starwars Community should be happy we are getting an alternative to SWG. We all know the fate of SWG, and how it has been mismanaged. TOR is giving us a second chanse.
