So I take everything they say with a grain of sceptisism, or rather I don't trust Smed.
You just have to take their games for what they are or don't play them, I still think we will see those RMT shops in SWG soon too even though Smed say they wont.

This guy speaks wisdom.   Seriously play it for what it is and not for what its not.   It takes a lot of the angst out trying to fit things into what will never be.  This goes for this game or any game by any company.   Despite what people want companies are in the business of making money.   (all of them) If you feel you can't deal with the way sony does business or the way they manage their games dont play.   If its something that you are aware of and can deal with then play.    I truly dont understand the constant hashing and rehashing.   People who play are aware and choose to play based on the fact they enjoy it (if they did not they would leave one would hope as anyone playing a game that they hate has a problem).    If they find that they can't deal with what this particular company throws at them in the way of changes then play another game.  Its really that simple.  Unfortunately this concept of the grass is greener though will eventually produce the sad realization that one comes to that big business is big business.   Either participate in what is offered or not.  That is the only decision that needs to be made.

I will say though that based on the way swg is that I dont think that the RMT shops will be introduced, but I could be wrong.   I have no idea of how the game is growing or not growing, but I see little purpose in it there.  I can grind a crafter in an afternoon (its very easy so no need there).    Combat toons well I guess 1 level 90 is enough for me. (although I made a loljedi just to say I made one for laughs but I hate them with a passion to play them they are rather well .. melee like..)

In any event sony is sony deal with it or find another company to give your money to.  Works for me in whatever I do (banking, cable, games, grocery stores, running shoes).

On a side note I did smile at the diner.    Sometimes I think that some lessons are hard learned though and possibly those people who spend hundreds on digital content that they dont even own  might have learned a lesson with this change.     In any event (for the moment I dont think that we will see people spending hundreds on pixels for awhile).    I guess I"m not vey simpathetic on these issues, but the truth be told is some people despite apparent normal intelligence and reasoning capabilites will never learn.   Such is the way with this diner stuff lol.    Sony did pretty much say fluff and so a nerf was incoming on that diner.  Now its just an ugly badly textured little box with a built in crafting station like you have in the droids.   (as it was meant to be)...  (kinda like that fastest podracer they leave out the small detail that its enormous and a menace and  totally unusable. as an actual vehicle and just a decoration that stores itself when you leave the planet or log off..)

Ah yes, It is right and good that people screw people and lie to them, because then they learn from it.

    In agreement with Fisher:

I think as long as I happen to like fellow MMO players (probably for life) and as long as they get screwed over by a service provider in a new way every business quarter, I'm going to comment on it.

If Smed, or anyone else, wants me to stop talking about their lies, inconsistencies, scams etc.; maybe they should try stopping the lies, inconsistencies, scams etc..  Telling me to accept it and keep my mouth shut is not a successful intervention, I must say.

Give me something positive to say about a new business philosophy, for example, and I'll gladly say it.

That really seems to be the impression they have left on so many gamers.  I think you just summed up the sentiment brilliantly.

The only SOE product I have ever tried was SWG.  Not even during the late 90s EQ / Evercrack craze did I try that MMO.

But the experience I got with SOE via SWG was more than enough for me to keep clear of their products.  It was also interesting to watch on gaming sites news of some MMO in development getting picked up by SOE.

"Uh oh," I think.  "Bad news for the guys following that MMO."

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." The best thing that we all can do going forward is to NEVER buy another SOE  endorsed game. We will hurt them more in the long if we play all other mmos out there and none developed by them. We can personally watch them die as a mmo developer.

its to bad really, if they would put the resources in the right places like fixing existing concepts instead of trying to change for the better they would have awesome games, where would SWG be right now if the NGE would not have hit and all the problems would have been fixed (not changed) and new concepts would have been added, i am almost certain that if the resources would have been well managed  an athmospheric flight concept could have been developed (and perhaps even implemented) by now. but instead lets work on the jedi... pfft

instead of developing cash shop for EQ why not just think of a way to iadd more inovative things to  the existing game to attract more people.

IMHO they are working like a real business ( i took a business class for fun) and the  way to make fast money with relatively no risk is to penetrate a market (meaning copy something that already exists and try to sell yours as better than the other), not to inovate.

Nonetheless, one thing i learned about doing business,

rule #1, DO NOT INSULT THE CUSTOMER

rule#2, LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BE BUYING FROM YOU

SOE broke rule #1 directly, i can't remember the exact quote but they blatantly insulted the existing playerbase.

and as for rule #2 ... its like saying

me- "SOE ill pay you lots of money for a blue marble! and so will all my friends and their friends, we only want blue marbles"

SOE- "k guys lets make 1 billion green marbles, they will love it and if not, thats because they are to dumb to love it"

That insulting the playerbase was Garva and an EQ2 dev that hopped over and said something really dumb. This was shortly after the CU came out.

Yup, I think you hit the nail on the head again.  SOE has violated so many principles that I learned in business, ethics and the social sciences that it's mind-boggling.

Take another example, rednames on the old forums either insulting people or telling them to just leave if they don't like the unwanted changes.  Well um, if you tell your customers to leave, and they take your advice, where does that leave you?

If you read enough of SOE's games' forums, you'll know that the devs treats the playerbase like they're dumb, and Treyarch is doing the same for the new Call of Duty: World at War game as well. I hate to see companies treat customers like that, treating the customer like they're an idiot or stupid costs you business in the long run, don't think "oh I lost one customer, what do I care"- it can have a long term effect and SOE's move on the NGE is one of those examples with their reputiion being very well known all over the planet.

It's just the idiots at SOE I figured never realized that little powerful combination called "Word of Mouth" and the Al Gore produced "The Internets."

I am not a SOE fan myself but honestly I am just sick and tired of threads like this.  People moan, groan dna complain and yet STILL pay the monthly fees to SOE.  If you dont like the company..dont give them yoru money.  If you are gonna play their games..dont whine bout it when the company dont listen to the player base...they dont care...they are getting yoru money so why should they care.  Only way to change things is if all the whinners stopped whining and stopped playing SoE games.

Ive said my peace..i know im bout to get flamed...so flame away...I dont like SOE so..I dont play their games.

You probably don't realize that SOE has been practically giving away trials 4 or 5 times a year to non playing vets. I find it quite funny actually, most of us here hasn't paid a penny in years.

Exactly, word of mouth is the reason why I think their next title DC Universe won't get as much success as a decent product should (and I think Champions Online will do better). Their latest video shows that they revamped the UI to make it look exactly like WoW )minus the attack buttons bar), like every other SOE title lately.

Exaclty, we get free trial offers, and get bombarded with "come back and try SOE games" on these forums all the time.  Then when we're bored or morbidly curious enough to check them out we see more bugs, scams and broken promises.  At least they keep giving us something fresh to talk about lol.

The latest thing that got my attention, for example, was the implementation of RMT shops in EQ, after Smed said that he had no plans for them AND was personally strongly opposed to them.  Now, there they are--amazing.

This then of course only reminds us that this pattern of saying something to players, taking their money, and then doing the opposite has a long history with SOE, and that it is still ongoing.  People will probably stop talking about SOE mistreating and misleading MMO gamers when SOE stops mistreating and misleading MMO gamers.

Ehmm .... right. Just like he said a long while back that this wouldn't be done to EQ and EQ2 either.

At the moment both Vanguard and SWG don't have enough subscribers warranting the development and implementation costs of a cash shop. That is the real truth! Not the excuse he came up with.

The moment, by some miracle, these games regain subscribers, he will start seeing $$$$ in his wet fantasy dreams and slap the cash shop on those as well in no time.

In fact, if he's at least consistent, he just promised to put cash shops into SWG and Vanguard.  You see, saying that he won't put them in, seems to actually mean that he will, in his reality.

I'd not be surprised to see cash shops in all $OE games........
