Installing the game now w000t Still have to make an account tho cant wait to play this game Btw is the map on world editor the patch of land you will get once your in game?
yup, so you can fill that space right up
Not exactly. You have to buy a stake and "claim" a land, but the stakes are expensive (at least for a new tester). Once you've staked your claim though, yes, the editor is used to create and then upload your land.
I got in last night and it's definitely interesting. Everyone was extremely friendly, and the guides are really helpful. ATM things are a bit confusing because there's so much going on and not really a good guide for it though. The only real complaint I have is that combat is slow right now since 3 out of 4 swings seem to miss your target (the same with your enemy sometimes). Hopefully this changes as you get higher levels. Otherwise though, it's definitely fun to be in a game that has so much going on.
the melee combat does feel just like that when you start out, i have around level 24ish severing and 21 battle tactics and i recently learned a few moves which never miss and do big damage
not to mention i rarely miss on weaker stuff nowadays even with regular attacks, harder monsters i still miss a lot on

I had that issue the other day. what you have to make sure you do is never use a melee weapon that you can't use the Battle Tactics with. So, if you get a new sword but it wont let you use Parry for example- then put it down and grab a less fancy sword
Someone else might be able to fill in the other details about accuracy but this has been my observation. I dont use a new sword unless I have the Battle Tactics skilled up to maximize my effectiveness
Oh lawdy me....let's NOT turn this into an anti-Darkfall thread. There are REALLY plenty of those already, aren't there? That being said, there are certain "rabid" fans AND haters of every game under the sun on these boards and frankly, I don't pay much heed to EITHER extreme. Judging games for yourself is so very simple. Download or buy a game, log in, play it for a few weeks, make up your own mind. How tough IS that? And for all the gamers that reject games (ANY games) without any firsthand knowledge of them....oh well. Their loss NOR their gain, affects me in any way, shape, or form. Besides, I much prefer playing ANY game with open-minded adults that have a sense of exploration and an inquisitive nature. Those kind of people are just more FUN in game, and out, to be quite honest.
Excellent self-righteous speech there lil' miss, after all, I am sure you have never entered into EITHER extreme before.
I am QUITE sure that at some point I have probably done either or BOTH of those things (like you yourself have), sure, but...I do TRY to avoid doing that. Furthermore, this isn't a thread about DF, even though most threads on these forums seem to be right now, or if they're NOT, they get turned INTO one. This isn't going to be ONE of those threads. I'd kind of just like to see a few threads on MMORPG.com actually stick to topic. Sue me? ....
From here on out, I think ignoring posts that are completely unrelated to the topic, is probably a pretty good idea. If it gets too out of control and is obviously being overrun by people who want to slam DF, I won't have any problem reporting off topic posts that are obviously for trolling purposes only.
If you want to troll DF....do it on DF's forums. I'm sure the other DF fans will swiftly announce your intent. Wouldn't that make more sense? lol
Again, you aren't listening to yourself. My posts have been completed unrelated to the topic and yet you don't ignore them.
I kid, no reason to have a coronary. As for DF, I don't care what happens to the game. One way or the other both people on either side of the fence will dissipate in time.

I'm actually using a sword that I can use the battle tactics for (it's the beginning sword) because I'm still trying to level up my battle tactics high enough to use another weapon. Sadly, it doesn't help. I actually used a higher sword on a creature when I couldn't use the battle tactic, and it seemed like it was hitting more... but using that won't level up my battle tactics, so I'm stuck swinging and missing...
Weird, well its been ages since ive started out. Severing and Battle tactics was the first thing I skilled up. So perhaps I went through the samething. I know when you first start out with magic you fail awhole lot when you try a new spell. Perhaps this is something similar
Well, there's no doubt that this is not a speedy Diabloesque combat game. The slower combat I find to be rather relaxing though. But, keep working, and you'll soon not fail near as much. I can take out monsters with spells now that never fail, but still hit only 1/3 times with my melee. Luckily, the weapons are strong enough (due to a high Battle Tactics) that it only takes a couple of good hits.
This is saddening Finally an amazing game that actually looks fun and I cannot get in to play it >_< The account registration seems to only open for 5 minutes once every couple days , so unless your really lucky , it's very slim chances.
There's something about this game...It seems like it's the ""Counterstrike"" Of mmorpgs. It's like building off of what ultima online was except making it more fun and enjoyable. Which is a very high compliment , because imo cs is the best fps there ever was/is.
Again, you aren't listening to yourself. My posts have been completed unrelated to the topic and yet you don't ignore them.

Yeah, man, you're right. I'm sorry for being a biatch. I'm just kinda cranky right now, which is certainly not your fault.
ZOMG look ^^^^ totally OFF TOPIC. IGNORE MEH!
hehe I think gaming lately has just made me more nutty than usual. Sorry...sincerely.
BACK TO THE REALM!!! CHARGE! Btw....anyone looking for a CRAZY amount of gnomes in one place that doesn't mind risking their lives to see them....Faux's realm is FULL of them! Geez Faux....next time use some herbicide and catch those suckers before they grow chimneys. Going to your house is DANGEROUS now! And why oh why did you plant your crops in your house? ROFL If you had a slot machine in there....I bet those gnomes would be havin' a party makin' money for ya! hehe
Oh, and Faux lives one realm south of Ike's place, if anyone is interested. Worth a trip up there just to see his vast GNOME GARDEN...lol. I'm pretty sure I saw some tomatoes growing in there too. Hopefully you'll still have some when the gnomes are gone? Idk.....
Been playing a bit for the first time today ^^ I have to say the game is quite great. Very fun and it reminds of me UO. Just a couple questions : Where should I start for raising my tactics skill? Both the tactics skills I seem to have available require that my tactics are at skill lv 20+ so I'm kind've bewildered at what to do in that regard. Also how do I go about seeing other peoples created realms? I've only been in the original content but can't seem to find where to go to get to the player created stuff.

glad to hear you are enjoying yourself
The tactics question is something nearly everyone encounters, it is kind of confusing. Basically every weapon has its own tactics and required levels for tactics. To raise your tactics from zero, you need to use one of the two starter weapons (either the practice sword or femur club). Then you can upgrade weapons as you raise your tactics.
Player created content you can reach by following the paths farther away from the starter area and running realm to realm (for instance you can take the north-west exit from the gardens to get to someone named Kregors realm, and then take the south-west exit from there to get to my realm, the Border)
After you have level 33 sorcery, you can teleport to locations other players mark on maps. So it is possible for them to mark their realm on a map, give you the map, and then you can teleport there whenever
if you have any other questions just ask in global chat (start your message with a *) and everyone will be happy to help
I think i'll wait for a application system for the beta. I can't keep refreashing a page overy ten minutes. GL to those that get in early.
Pfft. Just get fired from your job, blame it on the economy (every one will believe you), and do this full time. Try to show some damn dedication here...
...yea, I'm also going to wait on the application system
I remember back when I started there was no map and no practice staff. So if you wanted to practice magic you had to buy your own orbs & staff. Made it feel like it would be really hard to become a master sorceror. Now you spawn with a practice staff from what the newbies are tellin' me.
I'm not hating though I did use a practice staff myself a bit before I crossed over
I also remember there was no map so you had to learn where everything was by walking around. Made the world feel extremely huge
But I guess its really good changes I'm sure as long as it makes it easier for new players to get around.
i would agree with the practice staff, i think it is a good idea to have a starter one, just it should have WAYYY less charges, as the practice staff bascially equates to free magic for a long time (which doesnt give you the true feeling of magic, as a thing you need to pay for)
the map though seems kind of good to have, it kind of helps me find places to explore
so i had a chat with the developers today, and they mentioned how they are getting new servers set up as we speak so they will be able to handle more players

I wonder if AGI has something to do with the accuracy. I think I have mine around 70 right now- just enough to use my favorite weapon

just a little update here
there was a patch today, and along with it came an updated world map! which can be found here (and includes some new land )

(also when in game north is apparently to the upper left, while the map is oriented with north straight up)
