Dear Admin, dear Mods,
I have been a mmorpg.com follower since many years and i havent seen such a flame war, and a direct naming and shaming before (perhaps swg revamp).
Mmorpg.com tag stands for freedom of speak, respect of the fellow posters and objectivity. Unfortunately, I find myself under these circumnstances more and more reluctant to read the forums.
All in all, please try to keep the latter as much as moderated you can, for the sake of the rest of your readers.

Freedom of speech has a limit. The respect towards your fellow posters. Other wise i could taunt forever.
MMORPG.com,
I agree the Moderation in the Darkfall Forum needs a review.
Here is a post I made in this thread
Dear MMORPG.com Mods,
Instead of locking all the threads where <posters have> posted and incited a flame war - how about just editing the damn things?
By locking the threads you are just being used... this is a tactic that has been used on a number of Developer forums in the last year.
Someone posts something you don't like?
* Derail the thread.
* Start a flame war
* Incourage people to make personal insults against you (so YOU don't do anything wrong...)
* Sit back and wait for the thread to be locked as a result... FTW!
Honestly guys - you are getting used. I am really disappointed you are falling for it.
And you will see the poster above does the same thing here in this very thread.
He is attempting to get the OP to say something like "You are the LOSER - ******* STFU!"
At which point the OP has broken the rules...
I first came across this tactic on the Flying Lab Software boards more two years ago where the moderator there fell for it hook line and sinker every time. The FLS Fanbois tried to bring it here about a year ago and at that time your moderators did not fall for it. Since then I have seen it appear and get used on several boards.
And now it's back on the Darkfall forum here.
The sad thing is it is so bloody obvious. I lose all respect for moderators who fall for it.

As someone said in a post I saw the other day - if you like a game, do NOT visit its forum on MMORPG.com unless you are willing to grow a veeeery thick skin. I happen to think the moderation is fine around here - I don't like people being gagged for expressing opinions like some forums I would care to mention.

Alright, you made it a little clearer now what you want. You're talking in regards to the fucktards who have no recourse but personal insults. I agree with you there. Everyone should have the right to their opinion without having to be dragged through the mud.
I agree with Gyrus, also. Posts should be edited ( WITH REASONS GIVEN, something the mods here rarely if ever do ), instead of the threads being deleted outright.
Perhaps once those who use insults as a tactic to get a thread they don't like deleted, instead find only their posts edited and accounts banned every time while everyone else continues the legitimate discussion, they'll give up. This goes for all forum sections, not just Darkfall. As Gyrus pointed out, it is a widespread tactic.
The hipocrisy is exquisite.
Moderators don't have time to go through the forums line by line editing out the drivel. You'd need a legion to do that. Mst of the moderation around here you don't even see because it's done without comment.
What hypocrisy?
Those who can only insult because they have no valid argument are fucktards, in my book.
And if you meant hypocrisy in that I use insults, the difference is I use them after being attacked ( and occasionally in defense of others who are being attacked ), and they do not comprise the whole of my argument for or against something.
Yup. And it seems the Mods are just falling for that too.

It's common knowledge that MMORPG.com is a piece of trash hate pit masqerading as a MMO fansite.
Noone in their right mind posts thoughtful, eloquent stuff here, the general readership IQ is far too low, and moderation is so lax, inconsistent, and arbitrary it's liable to be trolled and subsequently deleted or locked anyway. The pathetic moderation in turn encourages trolling and hate posting, which of course leads back to maintaining the low IQ status quo of the readership.
The only thing worth doing here is trolling, and counter-trolling, and this is the only reason to come to mmorpg.com.
just make sure to block flash and their adserver.
Well, FWIW there have been less thread locks today and a bit of visible {Mod Edit}-ing.
That being the case, the "fanboi flaming" (see my previous posts) in an effort to get threads locked (thereby ending discussion) is no longer an effective tactic.
That means that "anti" Darkfall discussions are now staying open. (i.e. Threads that Fanbois perceive as being heresy!)
It was bound to evoke some venom - only now it's obvious where it's coming from.

No one forces you to read the troll/fanboi/flame posts.
This is definitely a priority right now. Early next week I'm bringing in a new batch of moderators to help out. And I've also been going over some guidelines with the current moderators to help make things more gooder around here.

and just what the heck does this mean
more OPs and all that follows disappearing or actual moderation of individual posts with an explanation?
Never had an issue with locked threads myself but i have real issues with a full thread just vanishing - if there was a better place to get info on MMORPGs right now (and hopefully there will be) this sites address would be removed from the ol' favorites lists
as is typical once a fan site gets somewhat popular the reasons for that popularity get curtailed
Well, yeah the mods should keep a better look on the forum for the next releasing game, we seen this before in the WAR & AoC forums before too.
If a thread have nothing to add and are not open for discussion it should just be closed down.
But to be honest do many of the DF fanbois flame other forums too, a lot of the people complaining now were the same people trolling the WAR forum not to long ago.
But while the mods should keep a look on the latest games they should not moderate away stuff that they will ignore in the other games forum, that would not be good either.
The irony of this post is amazing. Talk about being part of the problem. Hey pot, meet kettle.
Low IQ, speak for yourself please, I for one am happy with most of the posts/posters on these forums.
Isn't Forumfail over that way somewhere?
See ya and don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
Last thing these forums need is stronger, more arbitrary moderation. Sadly, from what the Community leader stated here, things are about to travel down the wrong road.

No one said anything about stronger...
Actually almost every one of the guidelines I've laid out to the mods were exactly the opposite...
Less locking of threads, and when they ARE locked, required post stating why it was locked, less stronghandedness with the bans, etc...
I'm not trying to lock things down, I like the freedom this site has always had. Unfortunately some people go out of their way to abuse that. Finding a happy medium is a lot harder than most people realize. We're definitely trying to get there, especially in 'hot' areas like the Darkfall forums, but it isn't an exact science, there is no immediate "make it perfect" switch we can throw.

Ignorance is bliss....Just the fact that 2 sides are flaming eachother over a game that hasent even been released yet tells you all you need to know about the community here.....Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity......
That was me
but the exact post was
"If you enjoy a game, never visit any forum of that game, unless you have very thick skin"
it applies to any game on any forum
(i like the mmorpg.com forums, good mix of both sides on them)
Just let the Fanbois and the Trolls argue and blow up each others posts. It's actually an enjoyable read.

Correct. I would also like to bring to your attention the number of threads started with something like: "I saw this and I saw that on youtube" which is obviously NDA violations.
We hae threads like: Did the Darkfall fans bring "the trolling" on themselves? OBVIOUSLY A TROLL POST AND THIS THREAD HAS NOT BEEN LOCKED FOR WEEKS, he obviously admits people and himself are trolling the forum.
please take care of it Mr Moderator

The post history speaks for itself.
I, for one, am glad MMORPG.com is on to this.

DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness
I can't ever a remember a time in the history of this site that this sort of behavior has been tolerated by this website. There is nothing wrong with a debating about the pros and cons of a game, it is why we are here, but the systematic and daily bashing and trolling of a game that is not released yet is silly. I remember the mods stopping this when vanguard was the game of the hour, as well as other games. Infractions need to be issues so habitual trolling (which is against MMORPG.com policy) is reduced. The lack of moderation has turned this forum into the laughing stock of other community sites.

I have never seen more crying than from the darkfall fanboys. Like every game forum here doesn't have it's fair share of negative posts. I have to listen to people say my game of choice is a miserable failure, doomed to close the doors any day now. You wanna see flaming, check the World of Warcraft section. Maybe you never took a look at the Vanguard forums here around the time that game launched... or the DnL forums. Turns out the flaming masses had some accurate points on those two games. (I'm not digging on vanguard in it's current state, but we can all admit it was a mess at launch.)
People should be allowed to post a negative opinion of a game, no matter how far from your opinion it is. If they aren't attacking you personally, I say the gloves are off. You think it's bad now... wait until this flaming turd actually launches.

Personally, I don't see a need for heavy moderation. Obviously the people who outright insult and verbally abuse someone need to be dealt with. There is no reason for someone to be abused based on their opinion or point of view.
However, most of these requests for stronger moderation stem from the simple fact that people dislike when others disagree with them. Take the Darkfall forums, for example. Most sceptics are labeled as "trolls" by the "fanboys" simply because they say something negative about the game. I can understand that some people may take offense when others disagree with them but that is no grounds for moderation.
