In those 4 images the water is all the same just shown from different distances and places. We currently have a team of about 12 including 3 programmers. The game will be open with plenty of space for those who want to explore. For those who would rather move quickly from one place to another there will be a Portal network that will connect the most visited places. Our Multiverse version we had about 64 maps resulting in a total of over 23 thousand miles of land and water to explore but now that we are switching we will rethink our land area however there will still be plenty of area to explore.

Here is new screenshot from my game My Avatar City. This is sun rise over looking the water Very pretty if you ask me. I am using this as my Desktop Background at the moment! This is what My Avatar City looks like with the graphics settings turned to extreme. It runs kind of slow but its fine if you just want to watch the wonderful sunrise or sunset!

I don't think great graphics is what defines it as a MMO or not. It's much like a band, every member plays their own instrument and must work together in order to fufill the circle of their music. That doesn't mean the guitarest has to be super good in order to make money or sell records. He has to be balanced with the drummer, the bassist, and the lead singer in order to create art.

I personally love great graphical settings because they help immerse me into the game. However, other aspects like great system design and content design can make up for a lot of things. Afterall, having fun overpowers everything...

    Great shot above me.

I think it all looks good. But it's all about the game play. Great graphics help with the immersion, but if the game play is not there, the game itself becomes irrelevant. So as far as visuals go, I think you're on the right track. Keep it up!

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

hey jamesP, very impressive project. but just remember graphics are important to some degree for visual immersion, but gameplay is a vital aspect to your game. it what defines your mmo, whether its PVP, PVE, complex crafting of weapons, houses, armor, fishing, food, potions. I think your doing good. I actually used Jmonkey engine and darkstar so I am quite familar with its limitations this was on a MMO indie project called xshiftonline but fell through. I wouldnt mind helping ya with ya project as I am a environmental artist/modeler. if you want to  pm me and Ill send you my photobucket link of work i did on Xshift online may we can benefit from each others interaction :). hope to hear from ya soon.

This is not a screenshot from My Avatar City its from another game using the same engine but this will give you an idea on the graphics. I just suck at building things in secondlife and My Avatar City so my creations wouldn't do it justice! lol Pretty much the same kinds of graphics you can get with secondlife can be gotten in My Avatar City if you know how to do it.

    Great stuff.

Your using Multiverse like me for Whren. I am using L3DT to make the world. I would do one thing and it is only a suggestion. Unless you bought SpeedtreeRT license, don't use it.  I personally trying to do Whren 100% free just to try. I been testing loads on the server and well 2000 in game is going to require Rackspace servers or similar.

Good luck with the project and keep up the great work!

Great job James! You are doing amazing! The graphics look very nice, expecially the one from "My Avatar City" that looks amazing! Keep up with the great work and post more screenshots / info, it would be greatly appreciated! Also do you have a website for this project yet? PM me or post that if you will, thanks :D

We aren't using Multiverse any more. The graphic quality is not up to the standard we were looking for. Personally I think the Multiverse Water sucks and in Rise of heroes there is alot of water so we really wanted the water to look nice.

For Rise of Heroes we are building our own client, server, and game engine using Jmonkey for graphics and Project Darkstar for the networking library.

For My Avatar City which is what the screenshots I have been posting today are from is using Opensim and RealXtend.

Planned features for My Avatar City:

Import 3d Models created with a outside 3d Modeling program (any program that supports the .mesh file type)

Facial animation using webcam (you avatar will have the same facial expression as you really have at any giving time)

    Lip sync for voice chat

    Video chat

File sharing from with in the world

    And alot more.

Website for My Avatar City - http://www.myavatarcity.com

The site is not even close to being finished and the forum is over run with spam bots because we have slowed down working on it until a more stable version of Opensim is released with better support for a in game economy. We are also waiting to obtain a server or 2 to host the game on. Its currently being hosted on my home computer so its not running all the time. However if any one would like to check it out let me know and I can get you on.

I am building Whren with Multiverse at the momnet but looking at ICE and lightfeather with MySQL as a possible replacement. ICE Can do so much more. With encrprtion you can really cut down on the hacking witout killing the server end. Problem is all the extra coding is eating me alive to get the game finished by 2015. LOL

Multiverse will be a good solution once its more mature and feature complete but right now theres not to much that it really supports. Pretty much the only type of game its really good for is land based Fantasy games. Instead of working so hard on their flash components and things like that they should be working on making it more useable for other types of MMO like space based.

I agree JamesP they are working on a new MMO too so the engine is not getting updated very much.

I would type a WOT but then I'll just keep quiet here. :)

My Avatar City is a Social MMO like Secondlife. Most of the SecondLife scripting language has been added so you can create your own games inside our virtual world. I have read that people have created whole entire Fantasy based MMOs inside SecondLife using the scripting language. In My Avatar City you have the choice of using LSL which is the SecondLife scripting language, C#, or Python for scripting.

Looks really great JamesP. I wish you well on this project.

I am working on a more realistic theme but I deleted the project and now restarted. Back a couple years ago I experminted with Crystalspace. Many people look at CS and laugh about it but a programmer can do some amazing stuff with this engine. Real day night cycle with amazing realistic effects. I been working on design and the terrain right now and hoping MV can give the same quality as CS. Lightfeather is also in consideration and of course going back to CS. CS is OpenGL and the game would run on a linux box too.

Check this out. it is not a render. It is ingame screen.

Very nice and sounds very innovative.  That's what mmo players are looking for something new and innovative (not another WoW clone).

Well if you feel that way then you don't have to play. Its your choice. That right there is one of the problem with some gamers these days and might be one of the reasons develop companies don't spend more time to create something new. Why would they want to take a chance on people reacting like that when there are already tried and true types of games that people like and will buy!

Seriously this looks outstanding being an amature attempt. Already it looks better than darkfall, and the wolves tell you that you are viloating their personal space!

(just kidding) this really does look good, considering you don't have a multi billion dollar studio behind you with their resourses. Keep up the good work.

Eh. I would not even respond to this poster.

He/she does not have any talent or they would have posted a game screen they were working on to justify their opinion.

BUT I will respond to you. Your creative efforts show talent and as you work on the game you will replace those models with your own designed models. It is the way to build the game. Use rough models and get the code worked out then worry about the eyecandy. (should take his own advice LOL)  Also, there are tons and tons of free models on the web that can be used for commercial productions and can be modified.  DO NOT get discouraged by others opinions.

Visually, this stuff would be enough for me to hire you if I was an indie developer.

Me and some coworkers were talking about developing an indie MMO since we just got layed off and won't have jobs on May 15th. However, that still remains to be seen. I wouldn't mind helping out with some concept art perhaps. I've never done any concept art before, but you gotta start somewhere right?

you can check out some of my stuff (its rather old)
