I received an email about 6 days ago from GOA that my DAoC Europe account had been reopened. I made this account back in 2002 and haven't touched it since early 2003. The only info I got was that it had been reopened, no explanation, no mention of who reopened it, nothing. I thought there was some mistake because I obviously didn't reopen it myself. I was going to call GOA but put it off until the weekend because I'm still traumatised from previous experience dealing with GOA's customer support. I wasn't too worried about my account being hacked since there is *nothing* of value on my account and other than my email address, none of the information in the account is up-to-date.
But much to my surprise, I got another email tonight from DAoC Europe entitled The Adventure is Not Over! When I opened it, I discovered that it was a promotion attempt to get me to try out the game for free again but that my account was now closed and if I wanted to continue I had to resub.
Uhm... ok? So this is how GOA does a promotion for their game to try to convince players to come back to Camelot? They just open an account without any information as to why they open it or for how long it is open?
Has anyone else received this offer and perhaps more information than I did? I wasn't really going to try out DAoC again on the Euro servers, but this has me baffled, baffled I say!

Yeah its an ongoing promotion. As for your account, who knows?
I'm so glad I don't have to deal with GOA. I had a buddy who played from Europe and we'd discuss some stuff and there was always a time when he'd gripe about how terrible GOA was, how they mishandle everything... You have my sympathy.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
It's a pointless promotion though if they don't tell players what is happening. My account is fine: it's been reclosed.
I've lost touch with the European DAoC playerbase and their 'official' forums hence why I posted here. Not only was it to discuss GOA's bizzarre marketing techniques, but also to alert ex-Euro DAoC players that if they received an activation email for their account without any other information, it's a Come Back to Camelot thinggy. Perhaps *someone* will benefit.
To the above poster: I have had no less than four separate issues with GOA 'customer support'. The worst one was my getting a level 30 alt stuck in the bridge just outside Jordheim in East Svealand on Excalibur. I had to go to their website and open up a ticket to get unstuck. Back in those days, level 30 did take quite a bit of time to reach, but after 3 weeks and no luck, I had to reroll my character because it didn't appear that anyone was going to move it.
