Hey guys,
I am looking for the best possible pvp mmo that doesn't just feel like counter strike with swords and magic. From reading many different forums, it seems like DAOC nailed pvp with their proprietary RvR combat. Would you guys say there are still lots of activity going on with DAOC or has the golden age passed and it would be pointless to sub now?
Thanks for your coherent input.

Very much so. RvR with 3 realms going at it for control of relics and keeps. Battlegrounds keep you busy until you hit max level. And exp is pretty maxed out with all the camp bonuses going on in different areas, so leveling is rather quick. Good storyline, plenty of different classes and races from each realm. Some play similiar but they are not carbon copies of each other. Very competitive and numbers are going up. Classic is nice and busy, so are the other clusters.
I'd say to give it a shot. I had a lot of fun back when DAoC was in its prime. 100 vs 100 vs 100 in the old frontiers was epic. Loved camping those milegates.
Try out the classic server if you do decide to play, I'd wouldnt suggest starting on the other clusters until you get a feel for the game because the regular servers have ToA, which means you are going to have to get all sorts of artifacts to compete with the best in RvR on the regular servers. But if that doesnt bother you then go ahead and give the regular servers a shot. Might be more of a challenge than classic but it will still be fun in the long run. . .once you get the hang of the game.
Nice. Yeah 44 Different Classes sounds amazing. I read a majority of the sticky, it seems like TOA added a LOT of PVE content , alot that takes tons of time to complete? I'll stick with the classic server till I decide otherwise. I'm at the crossroads of picking a MMO and sticking with it, LOTRO has amazing content but the lack of true pvp killed it for me, I really hope DAOC can satisfy.

Well they did fix some stuff ont he normal servers so that you can do the ToA stuff using bounty points that you get from PvP. So if you really want to see what it's about you can check it out. It's not like it once was. Personally if I go back it will be either to Classic servers or Origins.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I would recommend giving it a try, even if just for the 14 day free trial.
DAoC seems to be creeping back up in population. I quit Snorehammer about 2 months ago and came back to DAoC. I had forgotten how damn fun this game really is.
The population is mature now and there are lots of people on all the servers who are willing to give a hand to new people. I think a lot of people have learned that being helpful increases the fun in the game and encourages people to stay.
I play on Gaheris, Devon Cluster (Mid) and also on Classic. (Alb) and find them all to be fun for their own reasons. IF you want help at all, drop me an email: midgard_scer@hotmail.com
Its definitely not too late to join or start this game.
As the other posters said levelling can be quite quick, most people are helpful and the rvr (tho not the huge fights of old at the moment) is still vibrant.
If you come to Midgard (which you should as the other realms are evil) on classic let me know and I'll try and help out.
/salute the fighters of all 3 realms
