Darkfall Fans.

Hello,

This is for all the Darfall and Ex-UO fans out there.  This is the type of game that won't appeal to the masses.  I think to this point all the hate that we are hearing is from the type of MMORPG players that ruined UO for us in the first place.  Some of the trolls on this forum are some of the most dedicated and passionate I have seen for any game yet.  I don't know why they are here or what reason they have for hating the game so much but I assure you that they have a reason.  Some kind of reason, a broken promise or what have you, whatever it is just be patient.

Eventually, they will all clear out and what will be left will be a small but very good community.  Thats what I wanted in the first place.  When the dust settles we will be left with the type of community that Eve has, thats the only suitable example it todays MMO's.  We will truly hate our rival guilds and that PK that jumps you at your weakest point.

I don't even think that the Darfall Dev's expected this much interest in the game.  Maybe secretly they wish it wouldn't have got this big.  Then, the game might have already been released and we would be playing right now.

Yes, the game will probably review bad and the trolls will scream "I TOLD YOU SO" but we won't care.  We will happily be playing the game we have been waiting for almost a decade now.  Everyone will be astonished at how such a bad game will continute to drudge through the years with a steady population.  Every now and then one of us will jump of a forum just like this and try to convince all the carebears and haters that Darfall is by far the best game on the market.  They won't understand, we will never be able to convince them.

But, we will learn not to care anymore and smile every time we long on.  Smile, because we are thinking about how long we waited and how many others MMO's that we played but never really enjoyed waiting for a game like this.

So, no matter what happens with the game, I truthfully will always thanks Adverturine.  Even if something momumental happens and the game doesn't released, at least they tried to bring our niche community what we have been wanting for so many years.

Just curious are you still playing any games made about 8 years ago? And willing to brag about how awesome the game still is compared to anything else similiar on the market now that might be made better. Just trying to see if like older games compared to newer ones.

Let me say I am a big fan of the game in it's beta stages, the concept, and the once indy game devs for what they are trying to do.  However, I think Tasos should stop talking to the public, and they should hire a very beautiful big breasted girl to do their community relations and be perfectly honest.  I think he shouldn't have given a release date ever, and stuck with Blizzard's style of, 'When it is done.', but I also realize they are strapped and need investors and income and the community is not understanding of those facts.  They don't say 'good work, I like what you are trying to do' and give them a pat on the back.  They flame them to all hell, send them death threats, and would probably do unreasonable things to their corpses if they came across them in an alley.

All that being said the game is good, they are reaping the benefits of writing their own code from the ground up and are able to patch and update at an amazing rate. (.. or so i've heard)

Now with ALL that being said.  They should delay one more month, and we should all be greatful for it.  Screw the trolls that will eat it up they will do the exact the same either way at launch.  The fans may be hurt, but it will be for the greater good.  Darkfall will not go away, and it will be a successful MMO if they take the proper course of action over the next 1-3 months.  Good luck to them, and for the fans congrats on finally having something to fill that void.

I say they should delay the game 8 more years couldn't hurt, besides by then they might be able to port it over onto a better engine. If that is possible. I say your right take all the time you need to develop a game so when or if it comes out it will be fully ready for play.

I'm not sure what you are asking me but from what I can tell, yes I am still playing a game that was released well over 8 years ago.  I play Uo on a free server shard that offers the pre-UOR style of UO gameplay.

Also, I do play modern games.  I just bought L4D which is a great game.  Also play Counter-Strike, TF2, Call of Duty, sadly no MMO's at the moment.

Hope that answers your question but like I said not sure if thats exactly what you were asking.

I am in the same boat that you are.  If it needs delayed I would be dissapointed that I would have to wait for another month but if it's for the greater good then so be it.

I was wondering if you really prefer older games to newer ones. Or you feel that the way gaming technology is advancing that a company like aventurine has truly created something that hasn't been used or thought of yet. I haven't read anything from the features they have described with their game that sounds groundbreaking or will change the face of MMO's as we know it. Unless i miss something.

There really isn't any ground breaking features that will change the face of MMO,s aside from maybe the like realtime combat but I doubt that will. The biggest thing that it will do if it is a success is show developers and the world the the WoW model, or I should say EQ not to piss some people off, Is not the only way to make a MMO.

Asherons call, eve, just to mention a couple that are trying to send a message to be different than a WoW clone. Darkfall is behind the times in delivering the same message, I feel that a sandbox game or something off the mainstream will have to be far more improved then those games i mentioned. Then i think we may see a change in the MMO market to where sandbox may be the top choice.

How is darkfall behind the times if devlivering the same message? AC was before WoW, and AC2  didn't do so good, EvE is vastly different than any type of MMO there is, sand box or not. I do not see the same message that could be delivered if darkfall is a success.

What message do you think darkfall will send that other games haven't already tried? Success or failure i don't think darkfall will hinder or help the sandbox market for MMO's, other companies will continue to make niche or sandbox MMO's, and some will succeed and maybe to the tune that WoW has.

What is really going on is that older MMO players want something to kick WoW off it's high horse.  They are tired of fighting WoW players for market share of their favorite genre.  EQ was the first really successful MMO out there.  It set the mold and market share followed it.  Many clones came out with the same playstyle after other UO clones failed to garner enough of the same market share as EQ had.  Companies then realized that the player base for EQ style games was larger and more profitable so they targetted that style of gameplay for new releases.

What we are seeing now it tantamount to the indy movie scene vs. the big budget blockbusters.  The indy crowd fawns over the cryptically difficult to understand indy movies for their artistic message and deeper meaning.  But the big budget block busters enjoy the most financial success because the market share is simply larger.  Occasionally an indy movie comes along that pulls out a win for the indy crowd.  Only to become a big budget mess for the sequel.

What the darkfall fans are hoping for is their blair witch.  A small indy movie to hit big budget success and change the way the big studios look at how to make and show movies.

But the main problem is still the same.  That is that the market for indy films is still primarily small.  The big budget crowd is offended by the constant snobbish attitude of the indy crowd and the indy crowd is offended by the success of the big budget games.  The two will never play well together.  They may one day find common ground.  But whether darkfall is that game or not seems pretty much decided by the direction of these forums.

There's just one small problem with your otherwise well thought out analogy.

Darkfall is NOT ONE BIT deeper and more artistic than mainstream mmos the way artsy indy movies are compared to big budget blockbusters. A closer analogy would be horror movies with excessive unnecessary blood and gore vs mainstream big budget movies. The average audience might not enjoy all the "extreme hardcore" violence, but they will have no trouble whatsoever understanding it.

    I agree with the OP.

UO had horrible reviews. I even remember some magazine (gamepro maybe?) said that UO was a game targeted for girls because you could cook in it.

None of the reviewers even seemed to play the game for more than a couple of hours (how can you review an MMO this way?)

Maybe the review for DF will be more balanced since reviewers are now more knowledable about how to review an MMO, but I still think most reviewers have trouble giving fair reviews. They mostly just base it off of sales, in my opinion.

The MMO genre has the most potential of any game genre, it's sad that it reached it's peak (in terms of ideas/freedom) with UO and went downhill since then. My hope is that DF restores the great ideas that UO had and we can get the genre back on track.

with most of this. The dev's started out as players tired of the same o'l game. One that tells you what to do and forces you to do and be what was created for you. No freedom to choose after selecting a class. No way to play the game other than leveling to max level and standing in line for the next ride.

Sence the creaters of Darkfall are gamers, I doubt they had a lot of experience in development or marketing. That is probably why it is taking so long to get done. That said, they have created a great concept game with most of what is good in many other games and put them in this game. Does that mean this game will be the best game ever? No it doesn't. It is trying to be different though. That is all I care about.

If they can get a good base of 50k to 100k, that will be good enough. That is all they were expecting anyway. That is one of the problems. Hype got out of control and was done by word of mouth. I will buy this game and play this game. The reason is the concept. Weather or not it is successful doesn't matter to me personally. I hope it does for the future of the MMO market though.

What they need to do is get an honest rp person and tell the truth, we know making alarge mmo is hard and cost.. so tell us

yes we wanted all this in the game but we are small and doing our best, wow that would be fresh

stop telling us how great and ready the game is when it is not

tell us we are going to open with all we can and add the rest as fast as we can , not we are the best mmo out and better then all the rest, /paint target on back

a little truth would help. and the truth is this game has features we all want , but we are not blind and we see the truth stop lying to us Big T

like we got rid of the pet classes and hirling cause we want players to fight for them selfs, no you got rid of it cause it is hard to balance and graphic hog, tell the truth

o the fanboy thing of why there is not alot of npc mobs, they get in th way of PvP  then remove all the trees too? and land scape and well just make it flat they need to just say we need to add more mobs and are working on it

They never said that this is the best mmo out and better then the rest. They did make a mistake in saying it could be released now and is more complete than most other MMO's at release. It is close to the same thing, but not the same thing.

I agree with the pets and NPC hirlings and NPC gurards. They should have said why they cut them.

As far as the mobs issue, they are testing. I would think that you would want less data to fix issues with more testers. Mobs will be added as they feel that current issues are fixed. The latest patch notes I could find said "Some monsters will only come out depending on what time of day it is (e.g. Vampire like creatures only come out at night). Monster A.I. has been tweaked. More monsters have been added. Monster loot have been updated." I believe that more and more mobs can be and will be added for testing. Does this mean I think what you are saing is full of shit? No, I agree with you, more info should be released.

Communitcation is lacking big time. This is true. That doesn't change the fact that everything is a what if right now. No one but the dev's know the truth. Beta testers and Youtub tell us nothing. If it is a success, I will be very happy to have a new game to play that is different. If it fails, life goes on and I will hope MO can be a success.

A game is just a game. Fanboy, hatters, trolls, whatever will continue to live regardless of a games outcome. Sometimes I think people miss that point.

“How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?”

Agree , and here is the big thing, if i go and buy this game and all i have done in go to there web site for info i get this

    What are the Prestige classes?

Prestige classes are special classes, like Paladin, Assassin, Gladiator, Enchanter etc. and it?s an optional path that you may choose for your character to follow. Picking a prestige class will in most cases give you a few special skills, a few special spells, and you will have a certain status. There are limitations, tradeoffs and restrictions playing a prestige class character. Druids for example may never use metal armor after they are initiated, and Paladins have to give half of their earnings to their church.

really, not is the game now, but on the site still ...

    or

Will there be player owned houses?

Players will be able to set up houses of various sizes and design, ranging from small cottages to huge castles and citadels.

players housing is not in now, just clan cities i guess...

    or

Can I have pets or NPC hirelings in Darkfall?

You can have pets and NPC hirelings in Darkfall, ranging from tamed animals and monsters, to summoned skeletons, charmed animals and monsters, hired NPC merchants, hired NPC guards, etc.

What can my NPC hirelings do?

NPC hirelings can follow you around and fight with you, they can carry your loot, they can perform skills and spells to aid you, etc. NPC hirelings can do pretty much everything that player friends can do. In addition, NPC hirelings can be given advanced orders such as patrolling your city, looking for enemies, criminals, and thieves. They can be a vendor in your shop that you have set up, they can mine for minerals in a mine, they can go out into the forest and chop wood for you, or stand on the banks of a river fishing for you all day.

all these are on the site now, if i go buy this game and none are in it.. , is that really ok?

they need to fix this stuff and tell the truth, cause if they launch pre orders and this site is left like this, law suites can happen .. pure list of lies ..

May i offer you a movie suggestion?

    ........it's really good !

Your right it should maybe have been compared to a troma film like toxic avenger.  It is more of a niche cult film than a artsy project.

    I concede your point.
