For the most part I'm a solo player, due as much to anything as having odd playing hours that don't work so well when most other people are on- especially my friends who I would want to group with. I've found LOTRO to absolutely fantastic for the solo player. If you wanted you could actually play through most of the game completely solo, ignoring other players and go from level 0 to 60 all on your own. There are certainly group quests that have to have groups to do them, but you can skip them if you want. Every class has quests at certain levels that are solo instances, and there are several other solo instances thrown out and sprinkled throughout the game. So if you're wanting to solo, LOTRO works very well.
However, it also has plenty of content for those really liking grouping as well- raids, plenty of fellowship quests, and other things to do. It's a great balance and works well for those without a lot of time as well.
But tedious and time consuming. Do i really want to spam trade channel "LFM 1 hearler 1 thank 2 dps" for 30 min before I can play? Nope.
Soloable or Dualable instances will be god sends.
Maybe you can't find groups because you are LFG in trade?
You never played WOW, did u? The way to get groups in WOW is to go spam the trade channel in Dalaran. Except may be for PUG VA, which you spam the general channel in WG after a battle.
LoTRo has plenty solo dungeons, and a fair amount of the 3 or 6-man outdoor quests can be solo'ed as well due to the low overall difficulty of the game. Most of the interesting quests do tend to culminate into group quests, but I'd say it's pretty accommodating for solo play in general. Certainly two players could accomplish a lot.
As already stated DDO sounds like what you want, its instances are head and shoulder above your average MMO instance and there are 100s of them. You will get very far duoing with a friend, with maybe the odd hireling for more difficult settings.
Soloing on normal or higher settings is fantastic fun if you like a challenge and can handle having your backside kicked.
Kind of interesting to see the amount of solo content and play becoming more and more "normal", yet not for instances, as the game list of this thread shows. 6 or so MMOs seem to support single/duo instances. Compare to the 200(?) or so MMOs in the list.
I would like to add WAR to this list - it doesn't have instances as desired by the OP, but it has a lot of "tiny dungeons" (well, mostly caves, but many of them); and public quests in different difficulties.

I agree with dis; if you cannot find a group in World of Warcraftfor dungeons then something is dangerously wrong. All night long yesterday I ran 5 man instances back-to-back. Now- trying to find groups for casual questing Im not sure bout.
Had completly forgotten - Matrix Online. Is a bit like CoH. Almost all your "quests" are instanced and you can choose the difficulty, as in managing solo or in smaller versus larger groups.
all instances in games I have played are a minimum 5 man. I solo alor or play with a friend and love doing instances. Are there any decent games out there that have solo instances? dont care if the game is pay or free.
Maybe you mean Dungeons? Most of MMOs do not have instanced dungeons... Word "Instance" have more general meaning than that used in WoW...

City of Heroes/City of Villains does.
Yup what he said, and you can change the difficulty, for a cost.
