I did have every intention on playing this game, but as I have saw some of the leaks and with the NDA still up with just a little over 2 weeks left.  It just looks like the biggest joke of an mmo that 2009 will see. Really sad because this genre needs a good "sandbox" game. I have never been one to base a game by watching it but DF is an exception now.

Tho I have to hand it to adventurine, it seems they are going to get a nice chunk of change at release just like AoC did. Different approach, same outcome, less development debt to repay. were looking at another  sucsesfull money grub attempt. especially if the game is DL only at release that way they dont have to fork over a share of a box retail version. More profit in the pocket before all hell breaks loose.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

The jealously and uninformed statements are matched quite well by the amount of childish preening and cognitive dissonance from your post :)

I won't doubt that they said it, I just strongly doubt that we'll see an $18 sub fee on this side of the pond.

  • MahloMahlo Member UncommonPosts: 814

They're probably hoping that the delusional fanboys will pay that... even before trying it. They could be right.

Let see Darkfall 12 pounds, WoW 8 pounds, Warhammer the same, LORTO 10 pounds, AoC 10 pounds I believe.

Something is wrong with this picture ><

12 pounds is nothing, but they should be doing everything they can to be competitive having a higher fee than the major mmos in the industry when you are an indy developer with an indy standard game is suicide.

If they are going to charge more than they need to provide a profestional quality game, they will not be given leeway by anyone for being an indy developer if they charge more than everyone else.

They'd be lucky to get people to pay to play this at $5 a month.. nevermind 18 a month

Good news and i hope they make it 30 pounds , so i don't have to meet ya in game..unworthy shouldn't hold a copy ..

I am happy that finally some distinctive mean is found ..even if its just money..good move from aventurine, to keep the trolls from these boards away..

Price is ok, This will keep wow kiddies and forumstrolls away. Whooohoo!!!

This might be a smart move from Adventurine, Having a "high" cost from beginning will maybe keep the customer number down abit but that means they dont need to invest as much on servers. When the population start to go down in numbers after couple months they can just lower the fee and implement "Free trial" to keep the population at same level.

    WRONG.

    It will keep EVERYONE away.

I've played the game and I'll tell ya right now there's no way on gods green earth that I would pay even $12 a month for what i've seen.

I wouldn't even last playing it for free

People reacted to AoC to be overpriced at £10, exactly why adventurine wants to go even higher beats me. I guess they want to and needs to make money back fast. The amount itself isn't a big amount of money, but the higher the price of a product the more people would expect from it. Majority of people won't buy a used car that is worth$1000 for $2000. this is common no matter product you will not pay more then it is worth. I can easy see people that will complain about the price of DFO, and if the game fails to deliver the promised content I would say it isn't worth the monthly fee at all. however if they manage to deliver and the game is fun to play, then $18 isn't a bad price.

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

prime example of why this game will succeed if it has a smooth launch

people like this with a today join date who waste hours trying to put this game down getting banned...and just sent me a rando pm about bashing DF lol....

you are the reason it will be so popular....thanks!

To be honest, I think it will be 15 dollars/month.

But if it happens to be more, I'll also expect a superior quality compared to other games of the same genre. Nothing personal but I evaluate what I'm paying for.

I have to ask, jealous of what?

To be fair, it seems that the literal translation leaves a lot to be desired.

3 and 5? Probably says there are 35 Greeks and  Norwegians developing the game. Again, translation seems borked.

    Any.

14-15 Euros? Heh, sounds like Tasos has been talking with Smed...

It has nothing todo with "better quality compared to other games", If people whant it they will pay it.

It's really cocky of Adventurine to make this move, But i think there are some financial reasons for  setting this price aka server cost. Or they think that no matter the cost within reason they will have around same subscription's. As this game is made for a specific type of players with a quite large fancrowd a few extra euro will not scare them off.

I agree, they will first have to show the consumers that they provide a better service than the competition before considering having the highest price, otherwise they will lose potential players. It is ok to charge more for a better product but it will make people more upset about buggs.

It will also matter what fee Mortal online will have since it seems to be the biggest competition to the game.

They better start with the same fee as anyone else and then raise it later when they hooked enough players and are sure the quality of the game is high enough.

Basic 1 month subscription for WoW is 13 euro.

Why do you think that 14 euro will mean you have to pay $18? Would be one of the very few mmo cases where currency exchange rates were actually applied.

    Agreed.

I dont think Aventurine would charge $18 a month for NA subscriptions for any reasons what so ever.

Unless they were offering some additional web based stuff akin to SOEPlayers, but even then that would be optional.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Does anyone else think this sounds like another 'fishing' expedition for investors.   Some of the stuff he said there is totally inaccurate.

    1. Darkfall does not have 300,000 users -  He is misleading potential investors that he is going to have 300,000 paying $15 per month.

    2. Other games only being able to hold 3,000  users at a time.  EVE has all their users on one server, and games like WOW and Lotro are well above 3,000.   Also he states he will have 10,000 per server, yet there has been NO server stress test at all, and there is no way they even have that many beta testers, let alone have them all logged in at the same time.

The other ironic thing is that they have so many norweigans on the team.   AOC was made in norway, and was the most deceitful and hyped POS ever released.   DX10 was printed on the box, yet almost 10 months after launch it is still not in the game.

And really.. having the same gameplay video running in the background that you had 10 months ago?

Whoa, they'd actually have to pay me more than 14€/month to make me play that game!

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

I believe they would do 14$ ish a month for the NA release, but it is highly likely that NA players subbing to the EU version will have to pay up in euros.  It would suck, but it is entirely likely.  The game probably needs a few months anyway so NA players that are jaded by this get the best of both worlds.  Players to test and debug the EU version, and a lower sub fee when/if it comes out here.

Yea that's another reason I don't think I will play at release..  15 euro in canadian money is like 23-24$..  no game is worth a monthly fee this high..

edit: in fact, pretty much everything produced in europe is completly over priced when it reach us canadians.  The only recent purchase I made from europe (Italy) were chrome whipers for my car but they were the cheapest on ebay.
