Consignment House question from a returning player

I wanted to ask this in the official forums, but I couldn't remember my old handle. And then I tried to make a new one, and the damn forums told me everything I tried was already in use. Including la3d34askjf21. How does that happen? Anyway.

Back to CoH after more than 3 years away. The first place I went was the consignment house. At first it was incredibly daunting, but after I did the crafting tutorial, it all looks simple, if. . . bulky.

I've been using it to good effect. Bought a few things, sold a few things. Figured out how to do the foolproof influence transfer (important because I decided that, with 3 years of tweaks, I should start over with new toons).

What I can't figure out is this: why do so many people sell things on the consignment house for far less than they would make just selling it to a Field Trainer? Like DO's for 5 influence. That kind of thing. SO's for 100 influence. I've seen enough of it now to think it isn't just somebody being stupid. But what is it? Is there a reason to sell your junk for less than it's worth?

Edit: Wait, I may have figured it out. Is it people so rich influence doesn't matter to them trying to get the Power Seller badge?

Very likely. I'll usually go check out the prices in the auction house before selling salvage to a store, but I'll sell it to whoever will give be the best price. I'm not rich enough to just toss things away. Although I may toss the cheap stuff.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

Yea I usually toss cheap stuff but I have over 2 billion inf between my 2 chars and i know alot of people who just sell stuff so other people can get em nice and cheap. Kinda like a take-a-penny Leave-a-penny jar. I do this every now and then with really cheap invention mats.

Yeah I think it might be the crafting badges. I have someone in my SG who is almost got them all. They say it takes a incredible amount of time to get.  Thanks for the insight. I never knew they sold those for that cheep. I will have to go look now.

Yeah, the first new toon I rolled up made about 50k influence at level 3 -- just by buying stuff and then running over to the Field Trainer to sell it. A tedious process, and pointless since I had about 7 million inf waiting for me on various alts, but I can never resist a deal in an online game. Mostly it was enhancements along the lines of extend confuse or fear. Stuff that very few people will want. If I saw that there were more than 3 for sale, I went ahead and put in a bid, and most of the time got a few for between 5-100.
