Gaming PC at Circuit City

xKrNMBoYxxKrNMBoYx Member Posts: 165

Because Circuit City was closing down they had/having the liquidation sale.  I saw a gaming computer there for like $1000.  I'll give some of the specs I remember.

Intel i7 920

2 ATI 4850 512MB = 1GB

4GB or 6GB of RAM

Thats about all I remember

Or would I be better off buidling a computer with AMD Phenom II X4 940 for cheaper or wait for the 950

A complete system with those parts sounds like an extremely sweet deal for 1k. I don't think you could build your own complete system with the same core parts for that price. Also, unless AMD had recently pulled a magic trick with the new Phenoms, they won't be able to match the i7's speed or engineering technology. Hell, they were having trouble competing against Core 2's last I checked.

    Waiting for:

    -Games-
    -Re-Launch of Hellgate:London US/EU Servers
    -Diablo 3

    -A PvE centric MMORPG with-
-Fast paced twitch-action combat that requires hand-eye coordination, where you can manually aim your attacks instead of having to acquire/lock target(s) first.
-FPS-style WASD and mouse control that determine your overall success when attacking or defending.

That is indeed a pretty good deal.

It was probably 6GB of memory. Most Corei7 supporting motherboards support Triple Channel as well.

I would *NOT* buy that computer... everything being sold at Circuit city is NO refund, No Return, all purchases are Final. If they sell you something that is broken... guess what tough luck buddy and they completelty marker over your receipts serial bar and stamp it 14 times with the above. Now unless they allow you to try the computer in store to verify it is working or there is a really good manufacturers warranty then go for it, however if you are unable to test it or are unsure about the warranty then hold off on your purchase.

If it is a brand name rig, it will come with a manufacture's warranty.  You would have to ship it back to the manufacturer if something happened, but you probably would anyway even if CC wasn't going out of business.

If the rig is a no-name box, then heed Brone's advice.
