I'm making this post because I'm sick of all the asshole comments towards healers in this game. (esp Order)
People whinge in scenarios and in RVR because of the lack of healers, yet when they have a healer they bitch about not getting heals or the rez was not fast enough.
What I want to say is-as a healer class myself- You have to realise that some healers do not have mods. This means that they are unaware of health status outside their groups. Those who do have mods, cannot be everywhere at the same time. The healer is watching the health bars of the wb but cannot see where everyone is..
This means that if you decided to charge the enemy on a lower lvl of a keep..you don't get healed.. And if you are crying for rez, this means you are potentially putting the lives of the group members who are still fighting, at risk.
So..be nice to healers or pretty soon people will think, why the fck bother, and decide to roll another class.
BE nice to your healer and your healer will be nice to you!

it's been like this for as long as I can remember. Way back in 1999 in EQ I remember people bitching about healers. Things started getting worse though with PVP games like DAOC,and then the king of all whining games WoW.
People aren't happy unless they have somebody to blame that isn't themselves. Unfortunately it's normally the healer or tank.
Yea, Healers are an underappreciated class. Fact is, noone cares about healing as much as kills or killing blows.
However, we cant all cry about our woes ...unless you are totaly new to MMOs you should have known this when you selected your class. Going to have to suck it up. Fact is, there are a lot of UP sides to being a healer.
Example, the mere fact that you show up to a scenario/scirmish ...improves the chance of your side winning over any other class. Melee DPS/Casters/tanks all doing their part, sure....but you throw in 1 healer into the mix and everyone understands that group is significantly more powerful
So the upside to playing a healer...you will win more. Also, guilds will put up with a lot more %^%$# from you than they will any of their FOTM DPS classes.

I like to play healer because I notice I win alot more scenarios and rvr sieges when i am healing. I know how to play other toons well to but i definetly have more of a positive impact on the game when I am healing. The only time I dont have a positve effect is when I am in a group of 10 and we have 7 healers (too little dps). But thats doesn't happen very often.
I'll be happy gamer when a MMO comes out that finally gets past the stupid tank / healer paradigm. Most people can't stand to heal, so why make the game dependent on it?
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
Yea OP this has been going on for awhile in MMO's. Healers are expected to do alot of work and all they get in return is blame, regardless of the situation. The only times I have ever felt truely appreciated in an MMO as a healer was in shadowbane. Something about games with full open pvp and mostly or full loot that help them appreciate the person who is helping them keep that loot. Games like WoW, WAR, LOTR, etc... people could care less about you, and will quickly blame you for their own failures, or the fact you are the rare healer and not performing up to their standards. In the end, all I can tell you is learn to /ignore and/or fire back with snappy responses.
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
I got quite annoyed yesterday about a stupid pickup group. It started with some tank looking for a healer in region chat for Bloodwrought Enclave. I hadn't been to that place yet, so I asked whether I could join. Got a reply that sorry, they had already found a healer. Well, no problem. 5 minutes later the same tank sends me a tell whether I would still be interested. I get invited and find out that the tank kicked out the previous healer before they even started, because the tank didn't like the healer's looks. I should have left right there and then.
We make our way to the first boss. That boss has a special ability where sometimes one player is unable to do anything. So I get bound like that, and can't heal, and the rest of their group takes their time getting seriously hurt in the meantime. So once I'm able to cast spells again, I find all 5 group members seriously wounded, and not close enough for a Gather Round.
I do my best with Gork'll Fix It!, but need a lot of time to keep the tank alive, during which the dps are killed. I keep the tank up for a long while, but with just the two of us we finally wipe. And of course the dps guys blame me. Why didn't I heal them, yadda yadda yadda. I try to explain, but they won't listen.
So far, so usual. We rez, go back, and manage a perfect fight, due to me not getting stunned this time. Everyone at full health through the whole fight. And as soon as the boss is dead, the warrior says "bye healer" and kicks me out of the group, and puts me on ignore. After a successful fight of perfect healing! What an #¤#%#¤!
when i played a RP i made group heals most of the time and heal my group only
BestSigEver :P
Yeah, this happens. Trust me, these people would kick you from the group if you were a MDPS and not performing up to their 'standards'.
The only time I bitch at a healer is when they are truly underperforming. For example; an archmage going full DPS and loling as their team dies. Also, as I play many a healer in many a game, I feel slightly justified when I -know- that I could do a significantly better job than the healer I'm getting annoyed at. Sad thing is, even as I'm DPS, I still watch the health bars like a healer...-_-;;
That's why in any MMO, I run only with Guildies or Alliances. My favorite is when some rush a dungeon and find themselves alone against mobs, then shout "HEAL,HEAL" WTF were you doing? you are the F&^%$ healer. As soon as I see that,I simply leave the group. No arguments,no need to explain.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
Ah, how I love UO, AC, and LR for not needing another person around for a healer, even though it is really nice to have.
So awesome.
I've been a healer, or a support role in all of the games I've played. In UO I mostly followed my brother around as a heal/de-poison lacky that would get some damage in here or there. We sat right next to each other, each with our own dial-up connection (lawl) and would have a blast.
Then in AC I had my gimp first character, but once I understood the game more I made a caster with the 'Og' template having Life/Creature Magic specilized to buff and heal those I played with.
Now in WoW I play a Priest main and heal raids. I don't PvP much if at all in WoW because of the obvious reasons. I did here or there in AC but overall I wasn't into the PvP scene at that age for that game, as I got all my PvP in UO with my brother.
All the other games I've tried I end up not being a support class and then I don't stay in the game for very long. I haven't tried WAR yet, but I've watched a friend play. I'm debating installing the client and checking out the trial, but mostly just waiting for some of the new games.
I hear that healers in WAR are actually decent when it comes to not dieing in .2 seconds, which would be really nice in a PvP environment.
As someone said above it won't change though. Those that don't like playing the healer role won't, and they more often than not don't understand how crazy it can be to get a healer and asking for heals being one of the most annoying things ever and most likely the direct result leads to them not getting healed.

Tried City of Heroes/City of Villains? The While there are heal powers, they are only small parts of larger powersets. At higher levels, the related buffs & debuffs are usually more helpful than the heals.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
I hear you OP.
I play a Rune Priest and get griped at sometimes by some jackass player. Here's my solution. I just don't heal them anymore. If I'm not doing a good enough job for them then obviously they need to find a better mate to play with. They can either drop out of my group or kick me. I don't care either way.
I admit I'm not the best healer in the game. I'm probably somewhere around average. But so what? I thought it was about having fun overall. And on top of all that, if someone makes a mistake it was probably a learning experience for them. Nobody just jumps into the game being the best at everything they do. Even when they make it to the max level there are still things that happen that leave a learning impression on someone.
One other thing that I don't think people realize about healers. While you guys are busy getting to see all the cool shit going on, most of the time we're sitting back watching the health bars on the left side of the screen. So when you guys run off somewhere really fast a lot of the times it takes us a couple of seconds to realize the team has moved on. You put something in the chat window, it might take us a sec to see it. And then there is the simple fact that we don't get to see a lot of the cool stuff that happens either from staring at little bars on the interface. I've missed a lot of cool effects and moves from others that I would have liked to have seen.
But I like my class. It's fun and I like the role I play. So, I stick with it. I do wish people would realize that almost all of us are doing are best. And even if we're not the best healer on the server, you're still better off than if you have not got one.

It's behavior like what they did to you that can give a population a bad name. Yeah, WoW population is a bunch of annoying kiddy types, but what they did to you was just an adult calculated version of that. And I think in a lot of ways, it cuts deeper.

I do the same thing. Someone starts bitching I just leave right there. I don't care if they are in the middle of big battle or whatever. OR the person gets no heals from me. Playing my DPS character, I expect no healing and when I get it I am thankful.
I will say that as a healer I get much more "TY"/ "thanks" than bitching. I go out of my way to make sure everyone is rezed after keeps and such, because I know how it feels to be left laying while healers run right over you in their rush out the door.
Actually I should say I did do all this. I quit the game. You can be the best healer in the game but if your server has 10 to 1 population aginst you, it is no fun anymore.
I always used to see healers in daoc. They actually used to be my fav class heh.
I play a full DoK healer in Warhammer with all the addons
To be efficently at your best, I do feel you need the addons (libslash,Ishealbot, squared)
I KNOW that for some Vista Users (ESPECAILLY 64 BIT, my wife is 64) that installing these may be a pain
curse gaming has made it simple as pie to install and keep these add-ons updated, BUT Vista 64 bit, you have to do manually.
IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH VISTA 64 AND ADD-ONS pm me here and I will guide you through the process of manual install, and creating the folder in the war directory.
I play a Zealot, but he is no healer. I built him to do ranged DD. The only downside is I have to keep telling people who invite me to group that I DO NOT HEAL. Once they see that my Zealot can hold his own in groups and RvR, they are usually suprised.
I've played MMOs for a long time and I don't even try to build classes/professions they way the game developers designed them anymore. I want to see how far I can push the envelope. Ever try a mage who tanks? It can be done, you just have to get creative.
And...its a lot of fun...
EDIT: BTW, I do use some healing spells. I just use them to buff my own HP while I finish off my opponent.
On Pheonix Throne Order side...the people have been REALLY nice to the healers. after a keep siege there is ALWAYS a wave of appriciation for the healers. Of course...we may just have good healers lol

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
Hehe Phoenix, Order? Ever heard of Anti-Santus Chaotica, or Mez or Krindal or Goz?...maybe even Tessie?
I always play healers in game and I am normaly good in it, it is also the only class I am good in (ok doing decent on my KoTBS though, but not really as a strong tank) and on my server I hardly get any bad mouthing.
I have had one situation where I was on an alt (none healer) though where a person complained about the lack of healing and that the healers should start to heal. Now he was right there was no healing being done, but that could be accounted to the fact that there where no healer. This showed me that there are poeple who just blame healers period.
I personly do not whine about these things. Even if a healer feel like playing a DPS I do not have a problem with that. It is his money he payed for the game. On my server poeple often thank healers especialy in Orvr in the ORVR channel.
However many healer are feeling a tad bit to self importend. Some might even feel that other are suppose to thank them. While I agree, so should a healer toward a tank defending him and a DPS killing a enemy hitting him. I shamefully do not see this happening often.
