1. How bad is the grind? I heard they made leveling easier, but how much easier? I dont expect groups to be very common so I'm expecting most to be solo, not looking to spend 3 months at it either.

2. any new news on origins? thats really what I'm excited about.

thanks in advance!

My personal info is about ~1 year old so take it with a grain of salt...

When I played back then on the classic server I leveld waaaay faster then old times.  Since like you figured groups for PvE content are scarse solo or duo leveling is more common and it goes a lot faster especially if you're doing it in a PvP area like the BG's or the RvR zone.

The way I leveled the fastest was through pvp.  I barely bothered with killing AI at all because slaughtering other players was more fun and garnered more experience then any monster you could find.  Toward the end levels though there were still people killing dragons and fighting their way through the Labyrinth but they did it mostly for the loot rather then the experience.

I don't know if they improved the exp much after that because I stoped playing due to the thining of the population in the PvP areas and at the time the very agrivating "realm hopping" that people used to practice but I think they put in a timer of some kind.

Maybe someone else with more current info can comment?  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  As for Origins... your guess is as good as mine... or anybody else's for that matter.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I started playing about 3 weeks ago and the character I made is at like 1 day 6 hours played and lvl 32 . I played in thid some also so that took up possibly about 8 hours played. The last i played was about 4 years ago and it took 42 days played to get to lvl 50 just to give you a reference on the time difference.

Origins is on the horizon according to Mythic, so keep your fingers crossed. As for the grind, it depends on if your going with the Classic Cluster or the Normal Cluster.

Either way, it also depends on your class. If I REALLY wanted to, I could solo to 50 in about a week with a necro/vamp/lock without breaking a sweat, but thats consistently playing for a good 8solid hours a day.

If you want to level and has the prospect of grouping (which rarely ever happens anyways) go with the classic cluster, because 90% of the people playing on the normal cluster are level 50s that want nothing to do with PvE.

My suggestion? Roll a Vampiir on the classic cluster. You can't go wrong =)

Currently playing now after resubbing from 2 years ago. Leveling is really fast now compared to other games. For certain PvP areas you can even use the /xpoff command just so you don't level out of them too quickly. RvR is where the game is at right now. Molvik is a constant spam fest of Hibs killing Mids killing Albs. Its quite a paradise for the PvP crowd. Exploring is not a problem, many of the classic and Si zones have full camp bonuses intact. Dungeons are usually empty, although most people go in for the instances inside them to gather shards and clusters for catacombs armor, or people are inside Darkness Falls.

Most of the classes have gotten a rebalancing in terms of skills, so they play out a bit easier. I play on the Classic servers, so don't have to deal with bots or TOA, and there is always some sort of RvR going on.

With the easier bonuses with crafting, and loot generation, its easier than ever to customize your toon the way you want. Money isn't much of a problem either, always able to get what you need. Community is pretty mature, although you will get ganked in RvR if yer not careful.

I would not roll a Vampiir currently, Hibernia is not doing well in the Relic department so your attack and magic bonuses may not be up to par. And you probably won't get into Darkness Falls as much either. Current Relic count on Classic is Alb 4, Mid 2, Hib 0. Hasn't really changed all that much.

Vamp is a fun class to try, although there are plenty others to try as well.

I play normal servers and classic, they're both pretty fast leveling.  I resubbed back in November and I already got a Valkyrie to 50 on Classic, and a Hunter alt (hunter is badass now) on normal.  The Valkyrie only took me about 6 days, and the Hunter took around 4 days.  The Leveling quest Instances are very nice and easy, but tedious.  You run from the taskmaster to the instance, kill what the taskmaster wants, go back to taskmaster, repeat.  Early on you only have to do like 3-5 tasks for a level.  40-50 is still a pain, but no where near what it used to be.  It used to take you a month to get from 40-50 hehe, now it's about 2 days.

If you don't mind grinding mobs, you can go kill mobs in the battlegrounds, they give 200% exp.  I spent most of my time leveling my Hunter in BGs compared to my Valkyrie which I did mainly Tasks.  Probably the difference in time.

PS.  I play usually around 16 hours a day   I'm an gaming addict!

Also some may say that DAoC has a low population, but on the normal server I was in a huge battle with around 300 players.  We ended up taking all the relics that night
