You think thats gay? Wow are you confused. Gay is people being sexually attracted to people of the same gender as themselves. What you have here is just incredibly lame.

There are no words to describe this. Seriously. I wonder who at Lucas Arts actually signed off on the canonical nature of these cupewoks.... wonder if they have been added to wookiepedia yet lol.
If SOE hasn't already done enough to warrant being the laughingstock of gaming companies this, most definitely, should be their crowning acheivement. If this hasn't.... I wonder what must they do?
I remember when people complained about many of us players getting more into Christmas, decoration our towns/city's, tailors trying to creat Christmas-looking outfits, people where trowing beach X-Mas party's all over, so even though like I said Valentine doesn't fit the SWG lore, neither did Christmas, yet I know and am positive thousands of players (pre-cu) did celebrate it ingame aswell, so regardless how I personaly feel about the looks of the current valentine feature, I am sure plenty of current player might enjoy it, also sure plenty will just ignore it. I also feel that many seem to forget that Star Wars Galaxies was/is what you want to make of it and not what the developers pre-chew for you. As like I said don't like it...ignore it. Unless the whole game would look like it's in Valentine, why that much dislike against it?

I think the problem is that they spent development time on it. Christmas gifts are one thing...this valentines day thing is something completely different. Not sure how it got past the LA minders.
i am officially ashamed that i played this game.perhaps that is what soe is doing. since they cant shut us up they will make us the laughing stock of the mmo world. along with themselves.

I'm convinced that Smed thinks this is a good idea: like releasing the game with broken quests and professions, revamping the game twice and breaking it more each time, deleting most of the professions, eliminating pets for about 2 years, getting rid of good animations in favour of cheap particle effects, making promises then breaking them, replacing crafted goods with loot gambles etc. etc. etc.. Flying pink ewoks fits the pattern quite nicely.
Remember when the lead dev on NGE said something like, "if they tell me to make pink fluffy bunnies, I make pink fluffy bunnies." Apparently the order was given lol.
P.S. Consumer tip for those that enjoy this new addition: for 12 bucks you can get a year's subscription to this game:
Are the NGE'ers playing Star Wars or Carebears? And the NGE'ers dare to call themselves Star Wars fans. Sheesh
And yet they dare to say this lol. Have you seen todays shots of Hutta? Pretty much makes SWG look like a joke now.
I dunno that just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me where as when being on Tatooine it captures Star Wars perfectly. I also feel that SWG's graphics are still good looking and have a good gritty Star Wars art style.
However the problem with SWG is that
1. The CU and NGE happened
2. SOE wont ever upgrade the graphics
3. SOE wont ever add collision or a third Axis
Oh really? Because the biggest complaint I remember hearing from people who were Star Wars fans back in 03-04 and left SWG was it didn't feel like Star Wars. Even some of the early reviews of the game said this. They seemed to think it was EverquestUltimaOnline with Star Wars sprinkled on top. Yet KOTOR (a single player game) was a bigger seller than SWG ever was. I don’t see millions of Star Wars fans flocking to SWG right now even though people playing it say it’s better than ever. Looks like nothing has gotten better.
Most of the reaction I saw when I posted this screen shot of the Ewoks was “face palm” “They should yank the license from SOE” “this is not cannon” So maybe OR hits the mark a bit better. A lot of the people I knew who liked SWG weren't really fans of SW, just sandbox games, hence why they are now Darkfall fans or playing SL. So it’s my option SWG never appealed to the average SW fan, hence why it failed. Most Star Wars fans I’ve seen seem to be pretty happy with the direction or TOR so I’m not really seeing he evidence that SWG is better, other than because a very small group of people say it is. Kinda funny how that works. The proof will be in the numbers. /shrug

To be honest, when I started playing SWG in beta 3, it did feel like SW to me. The music, the content (by content, I mean weapons, settings etc... not quest content). The community was the biggest thing that made me feel I was in a SW universe, because the real SW fans were there, acting as though they were living the SW universe.
The fact that there were no jedi running around only made it more believable (you know, because in the actual SW canon, there were no jedi running around in that time period).
For me, it wasn't until you started seeing jedi popping up all over the place yelling 'duel me n00b!' that it started falling apart. Then for some reason, SOE felt those kids were StarWarsy and Iconinc, so they catored to them over us...
I have to agree with ya mate it is surely the gayest thing I have seen in a MMO. If that doesn't kill SWG then nothing will. I know ewoks were hard to digest when they were in Return of the Jedi, but jeesh that really didn't help their image, in fact I say the poor guys are going to be the laughing stock of the MMO world now. Seems to me SOE might be trying to mock the Star wars universe with that load screen. Of course it could have been worse if they used wookies instead. I think next time SOE should be more wise in their choice for a valentine event, like using female and male characters to represent the event.
Smarter than the average bear? That is assuming bears are smart.

Role Play was all it had to offer a fan of SW, that was why it fell apart. Not all UO fans were SW fans, and not all SW fans were UO fans. Finding your fun rather than having it shoved in your face was just not what most Star Wars game fans were used to at the time, and the same still holds true. Call it spoon fed if you want, most call it content. When you landed on Tat (or wherever) for the first time you did what? find a mission terminal.
Here’s the thing though, and I've actually seen Raph Koster discuss this, and I know you have as well. SWG was intended to be a sandbox game with questing system and the mini games as he called them build on top of it, like other MMOs. He actually said SWG was really just a bunch of mini games. The thing is they had to sweep it out the door due to production overrun costs and the game was never really finished as intended. What we ended up with was mission terminals as our content. They attempted to add story arcs twice to the game (Cries of Alderaan) (Secrets or Siren) twice ditched because SOE was busy fixing bugs in an engine they didn't understand. Raph also told me about 2 other Jedi systems as well as 3 other PvP system ideas he had, which both were thrown out. Jedi was supposed to be rarer than it was, and if you died you got a force ghost and that was it, no starting over. they chose the latter systme, because SW to most was Jedi. Honestly I think they just picked the wrong timeline.
I’m not saying I never had fun back in the day, I loved the game. Actually SWG brought back my love for Star Wars. The thing is SWG missed the mark big time with the average Star Wars fan, and the action they wanted just wasn’t there for them. I mean, that really relied more on who you found to play with, and back then people were so used to single player games they expected instant action.
What did most players of SWG experience the first time as say a rebel? You go up to a terminal, read a silly story, take the mission, then travel out 2000m to find a couple Storm Troopers standing around a flag, dancing and clapping. You start shooting at them, they run up to you and start punching you with their fists, and then after you kill them you blow up the flag in a spectacular explosion, then run back to town and on your way back you get ganked by a player 100 times stronger than you. /yawn for most.
Since these new players didn't know lots of people, they assumed this was all you could do since the game had no real direction and nothing holding a players hand to tell them what to do next. Sorry, you and I may have been able to find our fun, but the average player can't, and won't waste their time and money looking for it.
I do however think SOE should have just stuck with what and who they had and not changed the game like they ended up doing. Like Raph said "You dance with the ones who brought ya"
That isn’t what people think is fun. I hope TOR can hit the mark a bit better. I mean, they could add some medial tasks to the game for people who like that stuff, the tools to role play ect, but I guarantee it’s not gonna be the most popular part of the game.

That was too complicated for the developers to understand. Adding content, something that was asked for from the day the game was launched, was dismissed, becuase the developers knew that we ndidn't really want Star Wars based content, they knew we wanted them to focus on screwing around with the core mechanics of the game.
Even while people were cancelling, and claiming the reason was due to the lack of content in the cancellation survey, the developers rightly understood that those surveys were wrong, and that the real reason for those cancellations was due to the game mechanics.
As vindication, they can easily look at the current game, where there is much more content than the original game and the core mechanics have been drastically changed . Given the current subscription numbers are much higher than they were, oh wait....
Yeah, we asked for content and got the CUNGE. In retrospect, you have to admit that the developers knew better than the players what the players wanted. At least you have to, if you're retarded.

And so they have, and it's obvious this is the worst timeline ever to make an MMO game in since you either …..
make people bored (just letting them be a nobody)
make everyone a hero (most people wanna be a hero even if they make it themselves)
break canon
I think SWG should've been post EP6 TBH..... and it almost was. Remember when Thunderheart said "we will be moving the timeline forward"? They were working on another SW MMO, that was gonna be set in the post ep6 era (it was SWG2, but it was gonna replace the current SWG like an expansion), only BW ended up getting the license to make the next SW MMO. There are still screenshots floating around out there of some of the additions, and some of it made it in as free content updates for the NGE.
The should have just called it the Star Wars Experience or something like it so it covers any and all timeline content possiblities...however I am pretty sure Ewok cherubs wasn't in any cannon though. Perhaps fanfiction?
Personally I don't know why you guys are so upset about this.
I totally agree with you guys that it shoudln't be in the SW universe, but on the other hand the only time I'm confronted with it is when I login and see the login screen (like your screenshot). Nowhere do I see cupid-ewoks or something ...
Sure it's a different game now, and if you preferend the old game, well then you either have to adapt or quit playing. But why waste your hate on something like this?
And yes I played the old SWG as well, but I recently got back into the game and started a brand new character(cl 69 atm). I stopped playing the old SWG before the CU/NGE took place, so I guess that's why the NGE debate/hate doesn't affect me that much.
I remember running up to a smuggler some time ago asking for a slice, hehe that was funny. His response was "What's that?"
To be honest, I don't really miss the old game. I have found memories of it, but live and let live.

I agree Tilla with most of what you have said here,,,
It cracks me up when I hear claims of..."You must be a kid", or "you must be on SOE's payroll", or "you must be a WOW fanboi" as to why someone wouldnt like SWG or sandboxes. Or better yet...that we werent "old school" SW fans...that we werent around in the 70s.
Pfft yeah OK.
I got a big kid side to me when it comes to things like SWs, and comic related items.
I guess one must wanna wear the Under-roos as well,in order to be so far gone, when it comes to "living your own experience". Sort of like the "Trekkies" folks that would get laughed at during various comic conventions in the 70s/80s.
I have no desire what-so-ever to till fields ala Uncle Owen in a pair of pink panties. Nor will I carry on about a game being changed practically daily for over 3 years either. Nor will I seek to use the false labels on folks due to them not enjoying the same things I do.
Which is what a number of vets have done the past 3 years.
Which has made it fun to point out how demented their actions are.
And the notion of adhering to strick canon, in a video game, that is meant to be played by many folks is down right ignorant at best. SWG should of been about having fun in a GAME. Instead the nerd's nerds stomped their feet if Mos Eisley was located 10 feet too far west etc.
"OMG there cant be that many Jedi!!!!!!!"
Um hello...it is a game.Get that stick out of your arse, and have fun. Most SW fans like Jedi...and yes even those of us that were around in the 70s. I sure dont remember folks daydreaming about wanting to be Han...Jedi has always been where it is at in SWs.
So now that little group, that cant let go, will be steaming that they didnt get SWG 2. And this time, those of us that wanted an actual game will be enjoying ourselves.
We wont concern ourselves if every last detail has been validated in at least 3 movies and/or 6 EU books....instead we will focus on a decent story/background to go along with battle mechanics.
We will appreaciate having a game...and will go play sims on the side if we want some of that in our lives as well. Cause quite frankly...docs, dancers, and Uncle Owens etc have no place as character classes in an action oriented game.
Which is what any game this big, about SWs, should be about. Action...not "what color of panties are we going to wear today?" .
{ Mod Edit }
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Everyone who is/was asking for "more content" is just stupid.
Don't any of you understand what "sandbox" means?
The content was the world, the professions, the people, the factions etc.
If you mastered all professions and got all waypoints, I pity you, for you truly had no life.
SWG was NOT the game for you. You ruined it. Congratulations.
I beg to differ. To me, more content meant more planets and other such aspects. Not Instances. Star Wars about more than a handful of planets - some of which barren of any real working content. It was also about epic battles in space. JTL gave us a bit of that but they could have done more. Then consider the GCW. Seeing as they chose that era - the playerbase would have liked more content involving that.
True, it was sandbox - but what good is a sandbox if it has too little sand or if that sand is already occupied?
In the end, the effort and resources used to create the NGE could have easily been used to add more space to a game about space.

Which planets exactly were 'barren' of any real working content?

Iwill concede the GCW was a failed attempt on the Developers part.
True, it was sandbox - but what good is a sandbox if it has too little sand or if that sand is already occupied?
Did you master all professions w/o macro'ing through on the HoloGrind? Did you really get all the waypoints? Did you join or run a guild? I'd like to see you list your accomplishments in game so there is a marker for me to understand exactly how this game failed you content wise. B/c all you have said so far is that the content they did provide was not enough. And what does "occupied sand" mean?

Which planets exactly were 'barren' of any real working content? Rori back in the day for one. It was a running joke with us rangers that you could hit autorun on that planet and come back in an hour unscathed and having collided with nothing.
If you are telling me that mindlessly killing of innumerable herd of creatures in an attempt to master a profession that you don't care about is game content or even in the spirit of sandbox - then you and I have different reasons for playing mmos. Thats not content, its an SOE Dev admitted last minute fix to their Jedi issue. There was little thought put into it and certainly was not Raph's vision of the game. As for what I did in the game? I was a Master Ranger. Worked my way up with a broken class under the promises of trap fixes and more updates involving my calling. Earned EVERY skill point and every bit of experience without macros because thats the way I play. I clawed my way off of Tat, made myself a fortune with PLAYER resource contracts. I earned every credit the hard way. Got every badge barring profession based ones the hard way. I walked to every POI. I printed off every mission that existed in the game and undertook them even the broken Tears of Alderran series. I made million dollar bounties off of tracking NPCs whose waypoints I found and noted personally. From there I joined THE Fred Skinner's Antarian Rangers guild after proving myself to arguably the two greatest ranger experts in the game. I promoted, I helped, I established contacts and even role played the part. So if you want to tell me I short changed myself, I can bring the list that says otherwise. The fun I had in the game I earned ala sandbox. I explored EVERY planet and wanted more. More like all the attention and items Jedis were getting. I wanted HOTH (not some pittly arsed instance mind you - the whole planet), I wanted other planets that were not devoid of life nor filled with half finished structures complete with nonworking npcs and chests. I will also add that I tried my hand at space. It was fun enough but if all I wanted was a good space game - I would have went with EVE. And seeing as I had played a few other MMOS and have played others since that time - I understood that your subscription dollars were to be used to maintain the game and to help fund future content. AO, EQ, COH, Ryzom, and WoW - all moved forwards in their games with more content and more bug fixes. Every patch or supposed content update in SWG seemed to skip the professions that really needed them to help make them playable - sandbox or linear. In the end, the effort and resources used to create the NGE could have easily been used to add more space to a game about space. True, but all the whiners wanted more "content". The whiner thing isn't a valid argument seeing that it is industry standards to add more content to the game. Without it, you may as run a Neverwinter Nights module 24/7 and evetually watch your audience leave for places where there are signs of life and progress. I wanted content - I played the whole good player bit in the Ranger section of the forums. Talked to the Corrs. I will even admit (and you can find my post here about it) that I swallowed the ranger revamp promise whole heartedly. I was lied to. I got the NGE instead and lost my profession and many of my friends along the way. That being said, what whining I did get tired of was the obsession of PVP balance and Jedi issues. Every patch seemed to try and fix these irreconcilable issues. Meanwhile smugglers, squad leaders, rangers and pistoleers suffered.
Raph Koster mentioned in a couple interviews that SWG was envisioned as a "sandbox with toys". He also mentioned that as launch happened, the sandbox was there, mostly (but lacking polish) but most of the toys were not.
People were asking for the toys, most of which that were supposed to be in there, but missing. The few that were there (Cries of Alderaan story arc, for instance) were VERY popular. We made sure everyone in the guild did them, because way back when, the faction that did the most, got a 10% bonus to faction points.
There needed to be things like that in there, that was what people wanted, mostly. And fixing bugs.
Too bad they were always spending their time screwing around with "balance" (which shoulld always have been on a group and not individual level) and a lot of other things no one cared about. And this was with a dev team of 75+ too.
"What did most players of SWG experience the first time as say a rebel? You go up to a terminal, read a silly story, take the mission, then travel out 2000m to find a couple Storm Troopers standing around a flag, dancing and clapping. You start shooting at them, they run up to you and start punching you with their fists, and then after you kill them you blow up the flag in a spectacular explosion, then run back to town and on your way back you get ganked by a player 100 times stronger than you. /yawn for most."
It all comes back to SOE management doesnt it?
In beta, these terminal missions werent just shoot a flag or a box. The big paying missions lead you to huge camps of rebels/troopers, with the camp leader hidden in an underground bunker, being a boss mob. Using specials and even talking when you tried your best to kill him.
The smaller missions could lead you to a covert X-Wing repair facility or crash site, with an X-Wing actually there, with a pilotdressed mob(wrong helmet on him tho) guarding the X-Wing, and a few rebel soldiers also.
Almost all missions were like that, with the "base" being what was described in the mission, with the mobs apropriate for what supposedly was guarding the site. But right before launch...they all vanished, replaced by a box and "generic" NPC... Like so many other cool things from the beta.
Heck, in the files you could even find a grafical ui of the text games that was inside the hotel/cantina buildings. Ya know.. Making things you could do, and look like Star Wars.
When I started playing SWG after launch, most of the people around me, in my circle, wasn't PvP'ers yelling for blood, or PvE'ers yelling for raiding and uberloot. They were Star Wars fans, fans of the era the game was set in.
But instead of seeing Star Wars, and developers keeping true to Star Wars lore, they barely were able to dress up as Imperial or rebel, most Star Wars content were either impossible to get or useless to use. The faction armors were useless, and only worked to HAMstring you. Star Wars "iconic" weapons were the weakest of the stock, Han solos DL-44 for instance, wich supposedly should put a dent in the side of a armored to hell tank...Barely made a bunny twich..in laughter.
The E-11 Blaster Rifle was mutilated and became a Carbine, poor one too, killing you as you fired it, and the rifle(real) version barely was worth mentioning as a rifle.
There's lots of examples that shows that the average developer, had no idea about Star Wars, hadnt read or watched Star Wars, just looked at pictures of Star Wars, then made up their own stuff. But everytime Star Wars fans pointed out the inconsistencies, or asked abuot keeping the game truer to Star Wars, the PvP goons and the "Uberloot" or even the "WTF, we cant have our godly buffs and 90% composite?" made a shitstorm...Making sure Star Wars was never "heard" about by the devs.
And when the expansion arrived, with nothing being fixed in the maingame about Star Wars, and bugs being unatended, no content...And Jedi being the marketing departments uberduperword of the majorly $$$$$ making needs... I watched Star Wars fans start to leave.
And when they left, the Raiders, the PvP'ers and those that generally didn't care for Star Wars gave them this message: "Don't let the door hit you in the arse foo, Jedai rawks!!!"
And then the game fell into the downward spiral that were to become the NGE faster. And the PvP'ers, Raiders and "Jedi Rawks!!" dudes ended up being casualties themselves, and when they uttered their disagreements with the way the game went... They themselves were told "Don't let the door hit yer arse, you unloyal cowardly anti Star Wars wannabe Uncle Owen, we're doing great without you".. By the NGE'ers.
And now the game is almost dead.
Because management had other ideas than completing their game. Because developers didn't know Star Wars outside of pictures to model after. Because the melting pot servers had put the different playerbases on edge towards eachother, no one bothering to come to the aid of the other. Because somewhere along the line, Smedley decided that money was everything, customers was nothing, and bugs didnt matter.

P.S. Consumer tip for those that enjoy this new addition: for 12 bucks you can get a year's subscription to this game:

and a plush toy. I'm pretty sure there's a card game too.
if there was ever a point when it voids being intellectual property, I think this would be it.
/shrug
Yeah, it's sad and pathetic.

And yet they dare to say this lol. Have you seen todays shots of Hutta? Pretty much makes SWG look like a joke now.

Ewok Cupids? OMG! THIS is the current state of SWG? I'm SO never looking at anything SOE ever again!

For me, it wasn't until you started seeing jedi popping up all over the place yelling 'duel me n00b!' that it started falling apart. Then for some reason, SOE felt those kids were StarWarsy and Iconinc, so they catored to them over us...
The reason they said it didn't feel like Star Wars is because it lacked content... Just add content.

"SOE has probably united more gamers in hatred than Blizzard has subs"...daelnor
So much hate towards a game.
/shrug

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

I will concede the GCW was a failed attempt on the Developers part.

In the end, the effort and resources used to create the NGE could have easily been used to add more space to a game about space.
True, but all the whiners wanted more "content".
