No? People don't get addicted because their life sucks, really? News to me. Though I shoudn't have said game addiction doesn't exist but that it is the same as alcohol addiction. You don't get addicted if your life is A- awesome.
Games and the internet are easy to fall into if everything around you becomes unbearable or you have social pressures that you can't live up to. But it's not the technology that is to fault rather social issues.
I have lived with addiction in various forms my whole life, not one of these addicts had perfect rosy lives, everyone of them had lived through traumas, were badly treated in some form or another. Those are the issues that have to be looked at first. You can't tell someone to put the bottle down or the mouse down because it's soooo bad for them, you have to tackle why they use their crutch and they will lessen their death grip on those addictions themselves.
funny twist, but that doesn't work, your statement was "there is no game addiction", which i denied by saying people don't just go die in front of their computer without being addicted but just having a fucked up life.
certainly people in worse life circumstances are more vulnerable to addictions, but you don't need a shitty life a la having a horrible job, no social connections etc to get addicted to anything, there are a lot of wealthy people with social responsibility that get addicted to the craziest things, it's enough to not like your life even though it might be perfect and rosy from someone elses standpoint. human psyche isn't that simple.
that said i really don't want to discuss this, i replied because you denied the addictiveness of games, which is a horrible thing to do.
There you go, bumping on 3rd page, this isn't a Korean thing only, Koreans don't have any kind of ruleset to control people's gaming hours, South Korea is a free country with a lot of technology advancements and it's up there with Japan in terms of wealth. But mmosite.com fails hard, and they didn't even translate the article properly, it's just a rested/vitality system, they do not take XP bonuses away, they give you XP bonuses if you are a casual player who logs in twice a week or something.
That makes a heck of a lot more sense and goes along with the stance that the grind is diminished in this game compared to some other of their games.

Heh whatever floats your boat, you corrected me and I admitted it while still backing up what I meant, if that's not sufficient for you sorry.
I don't need to you to judge what I have to say. Also what you just said about wealthy people and such I never denied, you can be a very wealthy person and have severe emotional issues. I did not say addiction only belongs to quality of life, it's only one factor along with traumas and social pressures and those come in varied forms, you said it; human psyche isn't that simple.
Point is blaming the crutch and try to treat that as the problem when it is only a symptom will not do a whole lot.
Honestly, I don't care either way... I mean honestly. this could be a good thing, might make people take a step back from solo grinding to enjoy the game rather then just run the treadmill. Go crafting or exploring or whatever.
An even better idea would be to add the fatigue system for solo play and make it so you won't get fatigue if your group with 3-4 or more players
Means you can solo for a couple hours, but after 3-4 your forced to group. Forces the community to get to know each other rather then the what were seeing these days of anti-social MMOs.
Either way, I couldn't care less the game is amazing with or without it.
Thank Gawd people like you are no longer the reigning influence of the genre. Lets force everyone to play my way mentality is not only disturbing, but well on the way to being sociopathic. You grouping fanatics crack me up.
First of all, grouping fanatic? You couldn't be further from the truth and obviously your making assumptions like an arrogant ass. Next time, rather then taking one sentence out of a post and twisting its context to suite your own you should take a step back and observe the post as a whole.
I hardly ever group anymore, not because I don't want to but simply because its easier and faster not to.
Secondly, why play an MMO if you don't want some kind of social interaction with other people? I mean, the character development and mechanics of solo games are WAY better then most MMOs. If your not playing for some shred of community wether it be co-operatively or competitively then you're probably not having as good of a time as you could be.
Thirdly, I not saying people should play "my way" at all, but merely humble suggestions as to why this may be a good implementation rather then a negative one. I think people should be free to do as they will, but then again, its the gaming company's game and they will do whatever they want to in the end.
P.S. btw I think you need to go smoke a blunt or get laid or something, because you took a very innocent and humble post and went ballistic on it. Deep breaths mate... deep breaths.
i dont think it will be in the western release. If it is, then i wont play it. 3 hours is just too few, i mean i could live with 5 but 3 sucks. I mean the average gamer spends more then that on weekends. I wouldnt care about it but they mentioned reduced dmg in pvp, and that is just retarded.

It's a great system and should be implemented on all mmos out there. I don't see anything wrong with taking a break after few hours of gaming to go eat, drink, nap, watch tv, do house chores, walk outside for fresh breath of air, etc then come back to your mmo and play again. It feels much better that way then sitting infront of your monitor 8 hours straight (if not longer). I a lot of time find myself not wanting to stop playing or leave my monitor knowing I have been playing more than a few hours straight. So, what's to worry about here?
we're paying monthly to play the game. So why are we being told how long we are aloud to play for, if we are paying them after the initial client sale. If this was F2P then i would agree with you ..... ok no i wouldnt, because i believe in freedom and free will
But this is as far in this thread as i'll go, since Sgtfrog said this was korea only, and he knows his eastern mmog's

One Poster Ephimero did a claim that the link provided by the original poster in the thread www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/view/forums/thread/223149/NC-killing-their-game.html Is COMPLETELY BOGUS.
Ephimero was kind enough to provide a link to a site that translated the aion update www.areyouhellbound.com/forum/f46/translation-test-server-patch-notes-06-02-09-a-780/
this is the important part that proves the mmosite wrong:
3. When a character takes a rest, they will enter the 'Rest Energy' state and additional experience points will be gained when killing monsters.
? What is Rested Energy?
- 'Rested Energy' state will occur when your character is not logged in or in a server que.
- Characters with 'Rested Energy' will receive a fixed amount of additional experience points.
- 'Rested Energy' is applied when hunting monsters or players from the enemy faction.
- Characters with 'Rested Energy' will received an additional 20-30% experience depending on their level.
- Characters with 'Rested Energy' will have the 'Rested Energy' icon displaying on the upper right section of the UI(Aion interface style 1).
I would advise the Poster of the other thread to lock it or ask a Mod to do so as it is completely misleading.
seriously people, read the entire thread before posting. dont assume what the Op posted here was true. mmosite has proved themselves useless in terms of doing translations.

Aion forums seem to get a new thread about this every week, it may not even be in our version. If it is it won't have the dire effect doomsayers are predicting. Game is not even here yet and NC are supposed to be 'killing it'.....
Like many people pointed out this will more then likely not be apart of the western release. If they do implement it then it will probably just be the standard rested experience found in many post wow era MMOs.
Although I would be royaly pissed if a game dev or government tried to regulate my game time at all. I don't care for the reasoning behind it and i care even less if other people are dieing because they are too addicted to a game.

Sorry that i quote ya , however your showing a prime example of someone who starts to read a thread but fails to read everything posted.
one poster did post a direct link to a website that did a perfect job translating the patchnotes . It did prove that mmosite did a piss poor job translating and misinforming the masses.
there is no fatigue system. It is a RESTED exp system, if your logged out more than 3 hours youll start gaining rested exp. similar to how Wow's rested exp works.
there is no mentioning at all in the patch notes that ncsoft seeks to restrict its playerbase from playing their game. This is why i quoted ya. you read the 1st posts of this thread but failed to read them all. there is a reason i posted a in responce to this thread. This thread was ment to die XD.

"A similar fatigue system has been adopted in Korean WOW."
Thats the way they do things OVER THERE. Dont worry no body cares over here how much time you play a game.
