Looking for a free MMO that will keep my attention

gordunkgordunk Member CommonPosts: 114

Alright, now I've played a LOT of MMO's, both F2P and P2P.  I've played WoW, RO, Runescape, MapleStory, GW, FFXI, and just about every korean made F2P mmo out there, up to the newly released Ether Saga.

My main complaints have always been a deceptive level grind(ridiculously fast till lvl 10, than ridiculously slow and boring) lack of interesting quests(Runescape had the best quests IMO) and a lack of endgame PvE content.

Now, i''m not looking for a game that is point and click(seriously, I tried Rappelz out and instantly UnInstalled it because it was point-and-click) and I am looking for a 3d game.  Are there any suggestions?

None of the complaints you list seem to apply to Guild Wars.  Might I suggest playing it again?  If you played it before hard mode was added, then you played it before it had an endgame.

alright, i'll be honest here, my top 3 are all ones I payed for, GW, FFXI, and WoW

my problem with GW, was that, despite being a great game that was loads of fun to play, and had a lot of great content and gameplay mechanics, I got sick of trying to find groups for some of the PvE missions, where sometimes I was the only one there trying to do the Mission, and of course me being a noob, it was hard for me to get into a good guild which made PvP unfortunately depressing(though for a while I was in a reasonable enough guild so that I could do AB)

who knows though, maybe I'll pick it up again soon...I haven't played in so long xD.

It's easier to get a group in Guild Wars than in most other games, because you can fill in henchmen and heroes.  Or is the issue that you insist on always grouping with other players, and never going the henchmen/heroes route?

Looked at Runes of Magic, looks a LOT like WoW, and seems alright, trying it out now, thanks.

Not sure you will like Runes Of Magic, it's a double grind (if they didn't change it) and lack of interesting quest (WoW like quest...)

Usually, I'd recommand Atlantica Online for a change of pace but being a Turn-Based (point&click) I doubt you would like it but I'd give it a check just in case (turn-based does scare a lot of people at first :P)

Otherwise you could always look into some sandbox MMOs which might be able to get your attention for a while. Some are more PvP oriented though.

The problem is is that a lot of the later missions are really hard without normal players

I don't mind double grinds, Because at least I can switch classes at will like aFFXI

Atlantica Online is nice. I'd like to give some input on it so...

Like a few other games, it has an 'auto-run' which takes you directly to an area, a town, or even an npc. It has only one issue : occasionally running into monsters. It's a very good turn-based system, and in PvP, it's pretty fair.

The grind - there's no real grind until later on in the game. As for interest...I'd have to say that the first set of Europe quests with Bran Castle is interesting. I think it was more intesting since I used a certain FFX bgm...[The game uses .ogg for bgms..so...convert, rename, replace, you have your customized Atlantica Online. And .wav for sounds if you want that changed.]

Starting out : You don't have a lot of party members. The amount increases as you level, with a maximum of 9. With the mercenary storage locking up a character instead of deletion [accordingly, 'permanent' licenses can be purchased off other players.] You have endless possibilities of party combinations.

Although this is pretty much based on strategy, try it.

Help, help, help. It's all fun.
