Please answer honestly and if you have XP + windows 7 or Vista + Windows 7 then please vote for XP/Vista first. If you use Vista and XP then please vote for the one you would like to use the most. If you only use Windows 7 beta then obviously vote for that. I just want honest answers and please remember windows 7 is still in beta and realistically you wont be able to use it 100% of the time.

Vista, but I've been hearing that Windows 7 basically takes Vista and makes it much more gamer-friendly. So that's good
Vista 64 bit to take advantage of my 8gb of ram. I have had no issues with the OS itself, but some drivers from hardware not being the greatest. Particularly with my audio drivers. ><
I've thought about putting some space aside for Windows 7 but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Windows 7 = 300$ for a movable background clock.
And I use Ubuntu Hardy (linux). I hope Blizzard supports Linux soon enough, I know they're capable of doing so, they showed with their Mac client. I still have Vista for certain games, so I still have it on my system.
I did not include Mac or Linux into the argument because that does not serve my purpose of the thread and everyone should have a Windows boot for gaming, so please vote for that.
If you still only use Windows 2000 then vote XP.
i use xp and windows 7 (still using xp cause win 7 is gonna stop in july and just dual booting it)...but i do plan on buying it, it is what vista should have been, so i voted for win 7
Thats fine aslong as you use Windows 7 as your Primary because what I'm trying to discover here is how much of the core market you're gonna say bye to if you don't support each OS properly. So what I mean by pirmary is if you try to install a trial on Windows 7 and it doesn't work, would you try to install it on XP? If not then windows 7 is your pirmary but if you do download it and try it on XP then that is your primary.
Wow, we all SHOULD be using Windows? What planet are you from? I am on Ubuntu Linux 8.10. No more paying for Windows every couple years. Your poll assumes everyone needs Windows and guess what, we don't.
"does not serve my purpose of the thread" What purpose is that? You don't state a purpose! You just ask what version of Windows everyone is running.
If you aren't actively part of the solution, you have no right to complain about anything.

i use win 7 beta as my primary atm yes...hence why i voted for it
My computer was born November of 2002 (windows xp). The only thing I've upgraded is the video card (my Radeon 9700 pro died so I replaced it with an nvidea 7800GS).
I've come close to buying a new one many times in the last 4 years or so. There was always a reason for me to put it off just a little more. Eventually I put it off to wait for the new operating system. Vista fell on its face so I put it off further. Now I'm considering an Apple.
is there a way to emulate windows on a linux machine so i can run games, office, etc? i am interested in linux, like the indy free products especially if they are good, just havent read enough about it. and what about dx10? i kinda got spoiled with win 7

Realistically games companies only have to make a game run on Windows and that is why i only included windows. If they want to make a game run on Mac they can easily and if they want to make the game work on Linux they can but only a tiny percentage of people who potentially play games will be using these systems. However Windows you have this strange effect where some games run on XP but not Vista and thats why I only included them.
You can use Wine but it is not perfect and will have problems with alot of Windows software so it is recommended that you have a Windows boot too.
i use vista but HATE it, i bought the 64 bit when i got my new pc and more ram but could not get drivers for my dvd burner so had to roll it back to normal piece of crap vista. waiting to see how windows 7 does if its not as good as it seems probably just go oiut and buy a copy of xp
server 2008. it is based on vista kernel but is better optimized. plus its a free download from microsoft.
most people report better performance and compatability with games than vista. i know i do.

I use Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. I've tried Windows Vista Ultimate and found it to provide much worse performance than XP for the same hardware. Then again, I play a range of games including first-person shooters, so performance is more important to me than some spangly interface.
That said, I've tried Windows 7, and it's a huge step in the right direction. Performance and usability are both better than Vista, and I'll probably be happy picking up a machine with it on when it comes out (if I don't end up getting a dualboot Mac laptop).
I'm surprised there's no Mac option - I know a fair few MMO players with them who play games like WoW in mac native mode. I've also played MMOs on Linux - performance isn't as good as under XP, but if I'm doing Webdev work it means I don't have to save and reboot for half an hour of auctionhouse runs
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.
Mainly using XP at the moment. My pc isn't really that good, quite a few years old, and vista doesn't go well on it. Windows 7 is great on it though, so I'm using that a bit, but not all the time. Will probably try using it more regular as the drivers get updated more and such. Being able to use the DX10 features in lotro is nice, but not really enough to force me to adapt to the new interface and locations for windows 7 just yet.

i'm dual booting XP and WIN7 when it comes out i will be purchasing windows7 although vista isn't as bad as people bitched about it wasn't something i really wanted at the time but after trying WIN7 i really liked the new version so i will get that.

I'm using Windows 7 and loving it. It's so stable for a beta. I haven't had a problem apart from a driver issue (Netgear...big surprise).
vista 64 for gaming
xp 32 for work

Then he stated his "purpose" didn't he? Why would his poll include anything other than Windows when Windows is the focus of the poll?
And to answer the question, I use Windows 7. Haven't found an mmo yet that doesn't play great on it.
You have love the die hard linux fans, they just can't grasp the fact that because there are so many flavors of linux you probably will never see games made to run on it. While granted most of the differences are minor, they are enough of a problem that it makes game development more difficult than for windows.
That was the primary reason CCP stopped Linux development this month. The could not justify spending valuable resources for something few would use.
I use linux for business, but when it comes time to play a game, I boot windows. I use XP primarily because it uses far less resources than Vista. I might start using Windows 7 when it comes out, if they can remove most of the Vista bloat.
WinXP (32) on my chat machine, Windows 7 (64) on my laptop, Vista64 on my big desktop.
I game on all 3 depending what I have going on, on which machine, at that exact moment in time.
...that said, I'd rather be using ubuntu for gaming as well. It's FAR better, in almost every way... and when games run in some sort of Compatibility mode in Ubuntu, they feel smoother then either XP or Vista (still out to lunch on Win7... but it's a Beta, so I'll wait).

Nothing about die-hard linux for me. It's free, it's fast and never hangs for me. So why would I use Windows?
I'm not saying it's perfect, but it works fine atm. It could use a bit better driver support, sure, but nothing that can't be fixed.
I'll use windows for games if there's no alternative, but for the rest I can't be bothered to boot up Vista, why would I? KDE is prettier and faster than vista anyway.
WoW running on Mac tells me Linux on WoW can't be that hard to do. Isn't mac OS 10 a Linux kernel anyway.
I'm still using windows xp.
Although I'm hoping windows 7 will have enough tweaks easily to reduce its "bloatware?". I also hate WMP and Explorer. If this is so I will buy windows 7. If not I really wish they come out with a gaming op.

Windows 7 does not include WMP, e-mail, messenger, etc. by default. You have to install them manually if you want them or install the programs you want to use in place of them. It does have IE explorer ( otherwise you wouldn't get on the net to download updates ), but it's easy enough to download and install Firefox or whatever other browser you want as default.
