    Stupid thread,

Didnt 200,000 people want to get in on beta and you are giving us a poll of less than 400?

Thats like asking next door a question and taking that answer as the Towns general answer.

    Please dont post anymore, thanks

The question here is IF they release preorder with NDA still in effect will u then preorder the game.

The idea that they will do that is ridiculous, but even so almost 50% of the ppl asked said they would preorder.

If that poll represents the average person interested in the game (and no reason why it shouldnt) that means that of the 200 thousand people who applied for Beta almost 50% of them would preorder EVEN IF THE NDA WAS STILL IN PLACE.

So in other words even under such an unlikely scenario Aventurine would still get 100 thousand preorders.

    1. Think first.

    2. post second.

simple little dogma that works well as long as u dont screw up the numerical order.

Slightly off your point, but weren't the pre-orders supposed to start on the 15th? (ie yesterday, or at least thats the last i read.)  NDA is still up game goes live in 9 days so I get the feeling its not gonna drop much sooner then launch. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Overall dispite what Tasos said about the NDA dropping in time for people to make a informed decission on weither to order or not before launch. I'd say its already a bit late for that unless they delay again.

No, they never put any date on the preorders.

I can't make predictions, and for all i know they will delay again, which would be fine for me.

But If I where to guess id say we will get speccs and other information sometime tomorrow, and preorders probably one week before release.

First lets start with something you already know.  DF has fans who support it. Fans aren't always quite rational in their beliefs (look at the fan of any pro sport, not much logic behind that love either) but they are loyal and support their team.

There will be many followers of DF who really want to see this game succeed, and would probably be willing to just give Tasos 100 bucks if he asked for it to ensure the game's success.

So the price of a pre-order will not deter them (nor really should it) if they want to see it succeed.  Its not like there's a lot of good risk vs reward PVP options out there, so I understand their desire to see the game succeed rather than fail.

I count myself in that group. No, I'm not a fan, but I certainly don't want to see the game tank and while I will wait for the NDA to lift before making a buy decision, it doesn't mean I hate the game or anything. (don't ask me about my opinion of Tasos, that's considerably different)

I don't expect them to drag in 100K pre-orders, but I think there's at least 10K loyal fans who would be happy to toss in some cash on one.

Hey, its their money, and they have a right to support whatever they want to.

do you really think it's 200,000?

Many people I know on the DF forums created between 5 to 10 accounts in order to increase their chances of getting into beta. There are also many people who created alt accounts so that they could post crap under a different name.

The DF forums currently reports: "Members: 341,889"

How many unique, active users do you think this represents?

Personally I would estimate there are probably about 100,000 unique users registered over the past 7 years. And active users? Well, I see the same names popping up in the DF forums all the time, so there's way less than 100,000. Im going to hazard a guess there might be 20,000 active users (people regularly checking for updates). Though my intuition says it's more like 10,000 .. but let's say 20,000.

I estimate 20% of these people will preorder (a poll will always overestimate .. when it comes to getting out a credit card many will hesitate .. I know this from experience as I own a paid subscription website).

So my guess (and really, I admit it is a rough guess) is that 4000 will preorder

You changed your mind. I remember a couple of weeks ago you said you were so curious about Darkfall that you were going to fork it out for a pre-order. And while I almost respect those who are "willing to sacrifice $50 on the alter of experimental gaming" (a quote from another poster on these forums that made me lol a while ago), I don't blame you one bit.

I've had half a lifetimes savings wiped out in the last six months, and I'm not willing to piss away even this amount of money right now either. Certainly not without an NDA lift, anyway. And even more importantly, I want to read the opinions of some people who have played the game long enough to see the 1,000 skills and spells, the extensive PvE game (has anyone actually seen a single leak regarding a dungeon or epic quest?), and the deep crafting game. Because running around PvP'ing 24/7 in an empty world does not meet my definition of 'Sandbox'.

As for the pre-orders, I think they'll do better than 10K. Didn't WAR and AoC get 400k-700k or thereabouts? So I could see 100k people going (falling?) for Darkfall.

  • wartywarty Member Posts: 461

100 of those preorders will be mine just to make sure i win the lottery to get in

    http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.darkfallonline.com

Almost 80,000 pageviews daily. So at least that much is actually goes to the site daily. This site runs by IP ping so they are unique. That leaves us with, if there around around 80,000 daily, then a good chunk of that may be people who only go on once every couple days, so the total could be anywhere from 80,000 - who knows 140,000 actuall active forumfallers, most more than likely lurking as guests.

I think it is probably safe to say that out of almost 80,000 views daily, most of them are just the regulars because the DF forums don't get nearly as many registers as it did when it was booming 5-10k a day. Now it is lucky if it gets 200 members a day. So in the unlikely scenario, all 80,000 people are in fact just people passing through and don't actually have accounts at all is very unlikely. It's safe to say most have already registered.

With all that in mind, its not really possible to make a accurate reading on unique registered users, we have 80k unique hits a day, but that can be anywhere from 80k - 300k actual active followers throughout a 1-2 week base. Basically that would only be able to be seen if websiteoutlook pinged the unique pageviews on darkfall every 1-2 weeks with a total. But I am sure the unique visits on a weekly base is much higher than 80k. Also with DF's such strong craving fanboi'sm, I would guess pre-order ratio is quite high. So my rough guess of pre-order would be around 7-12k

No, there are far more delusional, gullible fanboys out there. If Tasos himself now turned around and told them his games was a wreck, they'd still chuck their money at him.

It doesnt matter whether its 200 thousand or not, however many people are actually involved the logic applies.

I think the numbers of independandt ppl who check the site is around 80 thousand, so 50% of eighty is 40 thousand, and thats WITH THE NDA IN PLACE!

Which is in and of itself a ridiculous assumption to make, with a lifted NDA the number will obviously be higher.

The game will not get anymore than around 5,000 pre orders (if they are lucky).

Dark and Light only managed to get 10,000 or so pre orders and it was ridiculously hyped and even promoted by Farlan at E3 events.

And it was the exact same type of game Darkfall is ... and never had an open Beta either...

  • thinktank001thinktank001 Member UncommonPosts: 2,144

I think the number of servers that aventurine plans to use at launch is more important discussion.  If they stick by numbers they had stated earlier 10k max concurrent users per server, and I would guess there will be 5 at max.  I wouldn't expect Aventurine handing out more than 20k preorders, and 40k subscriptions at launch.

I'm in agreement that the poll is probably over estimating the % of people that will preorder.

  • ValhamaValhama Member Posts: 169

Tasos clearly stated they would lift the NDA before, or when, they officially start taking preorders, so the poll is invalid.

So ur estimate just went up 50x times in a few posts.

No idea about Dark and Light as I never even heard of that game till after it had failed, but reading up on it didn't they sell out their Pioneer pre-orders entirely ?
