This thread is inspired by Alandora and Azrile that said it's wrong that gamers say they like AoC. It is wrong that AoCplayers advice other people to take another look and it is almost wrong for someone to have a different opinion than themselves.
It is beyond me how people can put themselves on a pedestal, not having tested the game in more than 6 months, trashing an entire forum with their 20 posts a day crusade against AoC. If AoC players try to talk about patch 1.04 due this week, the Anti-AoC police will show up in less than a minute to derail the thread, if AoC players mention how much the game has improved, the Anti-AoC police will show up frenetically explaining why OP is wrong, why OP is an idiot, or why OP is a shill and so on and so on.
I want to say, I like AoC and I think I should be able to do that without getting assaulted. I advice people to have a look on this game again. It has improved a lot since August. Virtually everybody that had performance and memory leak issues should considder trying it again as virtually all performance issues are resolved. Also, all the people that felt content was a bit thin above level 40-50 should also test the game again as a ton of new quests, items, crafting receipes, new area, revamped dungeons and so on have made it into the game. Further, the people that left due to no real PvP progression system or borked Sieges mechanisms should also get back in there, because all this is very well implemented now. I am not saying everybody will like AoC, but it will do 10 times more for you trying the game by yourself than listening to the advice of other people that have not been playing for more than 6 months.
I see a great future for AoC simply because the platform, which AoC is built on, is so much more high tech and real than anything else out there. If FC just continue the way they are currently working, this game has a fantastic future. I see myself playing AoC at least for another 1/2 year just to get to the end of all content now coming out with patch 1.04.
Finally, let this thread be the thread where people liking AoC and people not liking AoC meet to discuss the game instead of derailing all other threads. Lets try to keep the rants down and get a debate going on what have been improved in AoC, what should still be improved and what aspects of AoC seem to be the factor pulling people back in.
Comments
The game is terrible
1. Raids are bugged beyond belief. The ones that work are boring tank/spank fights. Nothing has changed on this front. The big 'endgame' is stannding around chatting.
2. The pvp consequence system is terrible. Almost 75% of current subscribers said it was terrible in the recent survey. This was the biggest gameplay addition in 9 months, and it failed terribly
3. The game has 3-4 servers with populations. The rest are ghosttowns. AOC tried to launch new servers a few weeks ago, they are completely deserted and will probably be 'merged' soon. The game is less than a year old, and has lost 75% of it's servers, and another 50% of those left should be merged.
4. Worst development team. Other games are putting out patches every month. AOC has the same 'patch' lingering on it's test realm for almost 3 months now. All fans of the game can do is talk about the stuff that will be released 'soon'. The last patch that added content was months and months ago, and the content that was added was finished in a few days and then forgotten.
5. <Mod edit>
Don't worry, that's not ethic discrimination. You aren't a horrible person...or wait...maybe you are.
I've been playing the game with a group of 5 others (rotated between 10-11 people who sometimes can't show up every time) from another online community and the game is plenty of fun. The graphics are good, the combat is interesting, and PvP isn't so bad when you make enough friends that you can't really be griefed by random people.
Calling AoC dead is ridiculous given the populations and variety of people I've seen on the Tyranny server lately. Whether or not the game meets your 'market' expectation, the game is filled with people from a gameplay perspective, and if you are playing for the first time through then your gameplay experience is all that really matters because it enables the player to have fun.
Some people (me, pick me) are already set on long-term MMO. That doesn't stop me from playing through some of them once and enjoying the ride along the way before moving on.
Not sure when the last time you played is but the game is really solid now. I stopped playing, went to LOTRO and WAR but have resubbed recently and am seriously enjoying the game a great deal. Server pop on Set is good and I can always find groups. While I think the OPs praise might be viewed as too far to the good side yours is too far to the bad, in my opinion.
If people can get a buddy pass I would try it out if I were them. I like it, you might not but the game is making a come back. That come back is marginal still but improving.
Don't be sarcastic, readers may think you are being serious.
Remember we are going to try to be constructive in this thread. For that to happen you can not just spew out some rage and expect people to be able to discuss it.
1.Please explain what kind of bugs you are refering to in Raids. It might be that you are outdated (since you have not played in 6 months, if ever). Give us the detail of the bugs you have problems with, I and other AoC players would be happy to discuss this if your claim is legit.
2.References?
3.I fail to see how you can compute that 26 servers of 49 is 75%? 26 of 49 is 53%. Also I am currious on the information you have on that the AoC servers are not populated. I hear the opposite from people playing AoC. Also Xfire numbers as of yesterday show as high activity as ever in the last 4 months. I think you are just plain out wrong here on all points
4.I agree that patch 1.04 is a huge monster of a patch and that it have stayed on testlive for a loooong while, BUT I fail to see how you can say that the stuff they added was done in just a few days and then forgotten. Would you care to explain?
5. This is just idiotic. Sorry. Only Norwegians play AoC. Perhaps a few players besides myself could comment on this.
Finally, you have to differentiate between you wanting AoC to be a dead game and the actual state of the game. A game having a increasing number of players, hiring more devs, working on an X-pack and a Xbox-360 version is not a dead game.
The only thing I have to say that wasn't already said is that everyone who has responded to him has claimed "On my server there is a lot of people playing"
Don't they have like a server list with a population description next to them like most MMOs?
What about other servers? I mean he said only 4 servers have any population and then 2 people said "On my server" both were seperate servers yes, but that doesn't prove him wrong on that aspect.
I would be curious to see actual DETAILS though, the poster really doesn't explain his complaints very much he just lists them off in a very broad way.
75% of current subscribers... Did no one ever teach you how to make a bilbliography? Where is your citation?

I do find it interesting that peeps go out of their way to bash a game which they have not played in a long time. This behavior is more a reflection on their obessive nature more than actual gameplay experiences.
Age of Conan launched with lots of issues. As time has progressed, AoC has fixed a good chunk of my issues with the game. No more gray map bug, the grind after 55 is gone due to new content, a real reason to pvp has been introduced, etc.
Now, there are issues remaining (DTs really, really need buffs) but honestly every game needs balance issues fixed. There needs to be more raid content (this is hopefully coming) as well as more max level content, etc. I do enjoy AoC thou and plan to play for awhile longer.
I thought you were more of a LoTRO player. He unreasonably assumed things like you not playing the game based on the evidence presented. The ignorance you present in each and every one of your posts really goes a long ways towards showing you have no idea what you are talking about...leading to the assumption you don't play the game.

Could you give me an example of "my ignorance"--I'd be happy to walk you through it. What point exactly do you disagree with--please I beg you, ask and thou shall receive (in spades).
Age of Conan stinks and so does the company who made it. Its only a matter of time before it goes under.
Go to any other forum where games are discussed and AoC is a complete laughing stock.
{ Mod Edit }
If you love AGe of Conan, you should switch over to playing Two Worlds..it's a single player game with shallow play features, no end game, pretty sure stats and gear don't mean much there either. Similar graphics as well where most models are humanoid.
Anyway, it costs the same as Age of Conan for the box ($20 or less), and well TBO it probably has more content than AoC, however, the reason for my recomendation is both games have issues but UNLIKE AoC, if the producers of two worlds pull the plug you can continue to keep your characters.
Also, I feel the pace of post launch development and fixes for AoC was about that of a single player game.....so no idea why anyone would pay subs, it's baffeling.

You're a walking example of it, I don't have to point out any specific thing. Just pick one of your statements out of ALL of them. The only spades you have are the ones you use to bury your sense of logic and common sense. I'm really hoping you'll just go cry yourself to sleep instead of promoting an argument. If you REALLY want to argue, why don't you try to convince me why my statements about the game are incorrect. And while you try to make yourself feel justified and superior I'll be going grocery shopping before my group play session tonight.
I just purchased 3 copies of the game for me and my two sons. We played the trial and we had a blast. We are new players coming from WAR and before that WoW. Anyhow, I'm not interested in hearing the gloom and doom in this thread, I just wanted to say we are enjoying the game and plan on playing it for a long time.
ColdSun
So I'm curious as to what sever type you play on PVE or PVP and what classes did you three end up playing?

Wonder why I have yet to hear how awesome AoC is from people that played very far outside of Tortage? Well aside from persons who spam the forums about how awesome AoC is.........in my last forum some guy had at least 3-4k post and in game he finaly admited to being level 30 someting, hope he was payed well.
Though, war is a funner game if you have three people playing as you can do scenarios OR PQs.......leveling in war is just way better.......don't get me wrong neither game has much of an end game......but War's PvE at level cap is vastly superior. Then it has a more flushed out PvP system and rather than 1 keep siege per month you can do 50 or so.

Good thread OP. This handful of guys repeatedly hogging every thread with anti-aoc are pretty weird - it's obviously not normal behaviour for an average player who just didn't like the game to post so much on a game they don't even play anymore - so I guess they're ex-employees of funcom / employed by a company involved in a rival game / players who were obsessed with the game before it was released and went crazy when it wasn't what they expected/ players that got banned etc. i.e. ppl with serious grudges or paid to do it
And yes AoC is a very good game - all the more so after you leave tortage and best from lvl 40+ imo

Sure I'll take your word for it. It must be truth coming from you.
this is the most funny thing; AoC is always based on a patch or update 'coming soon' (honestly...you believe me this time dont you?? please.)
Still they havent sorted out crafting or gems or made pvp worth the effort or fixed the bugs or implemented DX10...sorry to say that the only way you get people back, in this economic climate, is turning it into a free play game.
There are only two diffrences between us:
1) I admit when I'm wrong and move on
2) Well I can't say it because (allegations) are against the TOS........though speeking for myself, I'm not sponsered by any video gaming company.

I find it fascinating that amout of accounts that were created after the last mass multiaccount ban. Just notiuce the similarity in dates abd how they pat each other on the back and feed each other to extend the life of obvious troll/viral marketing threads.
I guess my 24 hour ban was for pointing everyone to exactly who this person was and their old accounts so if anyone is interested just PM me. Oh and this is no conspiracy theory as the emails I have recieved from those noticing the same typos and style can attest. Heck just go through the first 5 or 6 pages of these forums and look at thread titles and notice the ones similar to this one and notice who started them. Then look up the last time the posted if it was pre 2/1/09 and finally look at the accouts created since then that are written exactly the same way.
And this is nothing against those that enjoy AOC. Heck Im waiting for some free play time to see if the game can pique my interest again. God knows FC doesnt deserve another chance but I do like the Conan IP so time will tell. What I dislike are those purposely trying to mislead people.
gamespot and gamefaqs have Viral marketers and I nailed one for miss posting on the wrong account and I got banned, is why I'm here.............

It's an interesting strategy, if they were so inovative and persistant with the development, this would be the best game ever with 100 million players.

Great.. another "expert" on human psychology
It's perfectly normal behavior to "bash" a game you don't like. Pick up a book on marketing. It's a known fact that when people get scammed they like to tell it to everyone.
These "AoC haters" are part of mmorpg.com community and have a right to voice their opinions even if they differ from yours. It's important for potential customers to hear both sides of the story.
We all know AoC had a bad launch and about 90% of gamers quit the game. What some of you don't understand is taht most of these 90% didn't quit because of technical issues, they quit because they didn't like the CORE of the game.
Like it or not, even though FC has done a lot of patching, the game is still the same. If you look at the content, basically nothing has changed. Try to understand that Ymir's Pass didn't change the game at all. It's just a new zone among the others.
What is NOT normal, is to post 20 posts a day (like our OP here) saying how amazing AoC is and how everyone should buy it. Don't you see how weird that is?
Why are these people not playing the game if it is so good? Why do they spend their free time here instead of Hyboria?
These are the questions we should be asking. Although most of us know the answer already.
Just gotta say as an outsider the OP has a good point. If you started hating AoC, or any game for that matter go ahead post your review, then quit crying about it and wasting your life dealing out such hatred for a game. It's pretty pathetic if you have to waste your time patrolling the forums in the manner op has described. It seems a problem endemic to the mmorpg.com boards.
