Its like every game title i see, its a 3d mmorpg. Every one is the same, with different models, quest text, and so on. Gameplay is static; its the same in each mmorpg. Create a character, change a few details such as hair style, torso size, and gender <Gender shouldnt even be in mmorpgs. Guys select Female quite often. Its sad. Im like "whats up" to the female character, and shes like "im a guy!". im like wtf.
(Continuing): Grinding for experience or loot. Every mmorpg has it. As soon as i log in for the first time, the land is crawling with creatures that walk back and forth in a tiny area. That gives me a sense that the game is trash. Then i look around some more and notice every player has the same "badass" looking character. I immediately know theres no role playing in the role playing game.
Note: In the title, 'NEW' should be defined as "not the same", meaning the game should be different in terms of game play/style, not just meshes and text.
I am disgusted of 3D MMORPGs. About 6 or 7 years ago, i got Everquest. It was my first mmorpg. I was amazed by it. The huge world, interacting with many other players, knowing there was months of gameplay awaiting. Knowing that this could be life, in a virtual world. Then i got World of Warcraft 4 years ago, in january 2005. Before battlegrounds and the expansions, that was the best game ever. Once they added DKs to the honor system, i lost about 60% of my interest for the game. After BC game out, i lost another 30% interest. Its like Blizzard is trashing WoW, just like they did Diablo 2 after patch .09. Then WotLK came out, i played for about 2 weeks, and lost the rest of my interest for the game, and quit.
During the time between Burning Crusade and now, i have tried a lot of MMORPGs. A few follows:
Fury, Age of Conan, Dungeon Runners, Dark age of Camelot, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Everquest 2, Fiesta, PlaneShift, Runes of Magic, Pirates of the Caribbean Online, Crowns of Power, the GPotato games such as Rappelz, i might have tried Pirates of the Burning Sea, and there were a few more. Today i tried Perfect World International, and it was no different. I played for about 5-10 mins and logged out. I didnt bother with Warhammer Online.
Are there any exceptional 3D MMORPGs out there? I was looking forward to Mythos. Mythos being canceled was one of my biggest disapointments of 2008, followed by WotLK.
What i am looking for is a MMORPG (or a more descriptive term, POW <Persistent Online World>) that is either: 2D, or Origional. Origional being defined as not a copy of WoW or every other 3D MMORPG.
Must haves: On the fly & user friendly character control. Examples: World of Warcraft, Diablo 2. Not examples: AoC, and any game that contacts the server BEFORE moving my character. I cant stand that lag between clicking/pressing 'w', and my character finally moving.
Turn-Ons:
Old style graphics (Diablo 2, Red Stone)
High-quality, Event-oriented Tutorial system. I want "Press 'w' to move forward" *waits until user presses 'w'*. Not *Press 'w' to move forward, and click Continue to advance to the next step* even tho the user is hammering the 'w' key. (just an example)
More class/race selections then Dwarf, Human, Elf, Warrior, Mage/Wizard, and so on.
Turn-Offs:
Cartoony graphics (most of those asian-made games, and some aspects of WoW).
Low looting radius (Dungeon Runners) (annoying).
Text-based/list-style Quest system. IE: WoW, Dungeon Runners. Not IE: Diablo 2.
Having annoying 'Help' features that pop up the second i enter the world. Just give me a list of hotkeys.

The sad truth is, I doubt what you're looking for exists. 2D online games usually come with the "Casual" logo, meaning it's all point and click. Meaning no WASD.
I'd suggest to you Warrior Epic. It's in CB now, but at the very least it's d2-like. Or you could always play some 3d game with the camera angle in a bird's eye view..
R.I.P. comatose mythos
Puzzle Pirates is both 2D and very different from the norm. It doesn't have everything on the list that you're looking for, but it's the closest match I could think of. The only points of yours that it doesn't fit are that the graphics are rather cartoony, and there aren't different races or classes.
It doesn't have any quests or grinding. As clothing gives no stats, players can look very different from each other.
If you really want to get away from normal MMORPGs, then A Tale in the Desert is easily the weirdest MMORPG in existence. It likely isn't what you're after, though.
Hate to thread rez, but I would recommend checking out Ashen Empires. It meets most of your requirements. It's a microtransaction game, but you can play for free and check it out.
The movement will kill you at first... feels very slippery. But I've gotten used to it.
There's a PVE server and a PVP server. Nice crafting system. It will remind you of UO a bit until you really get into it.
