I played EQ2 for quite awhile at the beginning of last year but stopped because of uni. Back then i played a wizard and got him to 55 or so, One of the most enjoyable things to do was to run around killing named mobs in dungeons.
I was wondering if the wizard is still one of the best classes for this or if there is now a better a class, and also if it is possible in the new dungeons.
Thanks for your help

If you wanted to go into a dungeon and just kill named mobs I think your best bet would probably be a Necromancer.. just because the pet can tank. Wizards can root but if a named mob breaks out or resists the root, uh oh. I've not played a wizard but that is the impression I get, and I do know necromancer's are nasty for what you are wanting to do.
Solo killing is 20% class, 20% gear, 20% spells and 40% skill.
So a troubador can just waltz in to a dungeon and start killing named mobs? Doubtful, I really doubt skill has that much of a factor. You could be the greatest player in the world and still get your butt handed to you by named mobs. Skill is most definitely not that big of a determining factor, if anything I think it would be 40% class and you can argue the rest, leaving skill with the smallest portion of the pie. To back up the 40% class statement I'll use a Necromancer class, and if any of you have played, grouped with, or even watched a Necromancer you will know what I am talking about. On the other end of the spectrum I'll use a troubador - unless using a buckler.. soloing can be a bit difficult no matter what skill you have the mob is still going to hit you, he isn't going to say , "oh this guy has skill, lets not attack him". If youwant to kill a heroic encounter.. good luck , and you better know what you are going to be doing before you go into that fight.. which would be the 20% skill... but it is still going to be an encounter that will leave you wishing you hadn't started fighting it in the first place - even if you succeed.
I'd actually say named farming was 80% class, and I consider the top 5 to be (starting from the top).
Conjuror
Necormancer
Shadowknight
Monk
Bruiser
Personally, I use my Shadowknight for named farming.
The Shadowknight is also my top choice for quantity-over-quality farming too. I recently made a small fortune herding up humanoid NPCs, AOEing them to oblivion, then selling the love letters.
Having played on test, I'll be relegating my Shadowknight back to tanking again soon enough though. Hehe
I used a monk to farm they work pretty good for that and as far as 40% skill there is little to no skill needed for EQ2. Only game I can think of that takes less skill is WoW
Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.

I maintain what I said. A Troubador with raid gear, mastered out and with his mythic might or might not be able to kill dungeon named. It depends on his skill. Using the right strategy can increase your DPS by so much you have no idea.
I'll give you a personal example. I played a Fury and did around 600DPS while soloing until I found out the best order to cast my spells in to get the most DPS. Now I can consistently do 1kDPS without raid gear or my mythic. I can also kill named at will because I know the right strategy.
Information (skill in this case) is power.
I do have an idea how much of a difference it makes, and I stated that in my previous post. I said you had better know what you are doing before you go into the fight. Even with that being said... you are still going to have to bust your butt to be victorious.
I still say that the single greatest determining factor with farming named mobs or soloing in general is the choice of class. If we were rate the 4 criteria of class, spell, gear, and skills in order(1 being the most important and 4 being the least important) I would say:
1.Class****
2.Spells(depending on your class)
3.Gear(depending on your class)
4.Skill
at higher levels Coercer/Illiusionist are just beasts at killing named mobs. in fact SOE had to give immunities to named mobs in new dungeons because of Coercers and Illys.
