Games like WoW have turned the idea of a 'guild' into basically a second friends list. That's not how it's gonna work in Darkfall. In games like this, your guild is your lifeline. No more 10,000 guilds made up of some random player and his 2 friends. There will be a bunch of large guilds that make up most of the server population. How many? I'm not sure. It won't be just a handful, but it won't be trillions like in a WoW type game either.
Themepark MMOs like WoW have also gotten people used to the idea of a solo quest world. Basically a near endless road of public quest hubs, where everyone is welcome, for you to travel along. In a game like Darkfall, your main hub will be your guild's city. That's gonna be primarily where you live, and the surrounding area will be you and your guildmate's primary leveling area.
Now, I'm basing all of this on my experience with Shadowbane, and how so much of how Darkfall works is exactly the same, but there are differences, so take everything I've said with a grain of salt. Just remember one thing...
Darkfall will not be all about you walking down a lonesome road with nothing but a chatbox shared by a handful of loose acquaintances. It's gonna be you and your friends, on YOUR turf, against the world.

I can't wait for the community to stable itself so I can watch the land get torn apart by guilds warring over the best spots.
Ragtag guilds probably won't work here. Sure they'll be a big pain in the ass early on, but without proper organization and structure I just don't see them lasting or controlling anything of merit.
Just pray it dosnt go the way of VG and you have one massive guild running the server, and running everyone else off.
Read half way through ur post and I was like... this guy has played Shadowbane.

From what I've read, it seems the devs have taken that into account and have put up road blocks to that type of situation, but you never know. *shurg*
Shadowbane got overrun by the Asian zerg once it went free, but the NA players are still holding strong. Truth be told, it is still pretty fun fighting everyday to keep them from taking over our last server. Situations like that make for the most realistically intense pvp combat you have NEVER seen in these fake "YOU CAN MAKE OTHER PLAYER'S HP DROP TO ZERO SO YEA WE HAVE PVP!" crap mmos.

Stable community in Darkfail? I think of the Godfather when it comes to this. One guild whatever gets out of line. Someone else will be apart of another guild and be World War 3 all up in thar. Innovation or gankfest. You decide!
Community for this game already sucks. So add that into the equation. Community will rip itself apart even more so ingame. There asking for it.
