Why are these 2 games rated so differently?

Savage Eden & Biosfear

Biosfear has a 7.8 rating and Savage Eden has a 6.2 rating. They are identical games hosted by two different companies. I have played both games and there is no difference between the two other than host related events. If ratings are based on graphics, sound, etc. why wouldnt these two games be rated the same? Only becuase 1/2 as many people rated Savage Eden? I always felt MMORPG ratings were a little more techinically based. Am I wrong?

because the ratings are based on user ratings.  Say you have 100 people that rated Savage Eden and 100 people that rated Biosphere and neither of the two groups of 100 played the other version.  If 80/100 people that played Savage Eden (and did not play Biosphere) liked the game you would have a decent rating.  But say only 20/100 people who played Biosphere (and not Savage Eden) liked the game, you owuld have a low rating.  Eaasy enough. image

I guess all the EQ2 and WoW fanbois didn't get around to giving them both 1.0s.

lol..basically ratings are meaningless then -for ex. -  if the players base is primarily the 'roxors and th3 ub3r leet d3wds' - these ratings are essentially useless to many of us...lol. too bad we can't have MMORPG sort these somehow..oh well  image

I don't use the rating system.  You just have to do research... lots of it.

The ratings are intended to give you an idea of where the game stands with the rest of the gaming community. Everyone's tastes are different but there are still large "clicks" of gamers that like certain games. Unfortunately you don't know what particular click is voting on what game. But at least you can see what games you want to give a try and which you don't.

they should encourage them not to rate games unless they played them, and not to hype a game if your not even interested in it. i mean seriously take WoW and EQ2 for exxxample its just see how many WoW people can throw ones in the EQ2 and how many EQ2 people can throw some ones over at WoW. its bullcrap, if your not going to play it or consider playing it, then leave it alone.

PS: you spelled clique wrong dienkes image
