NCsoft rolls out NCcoin, a new micro-transaction system for online games- Austin, Texas - April 16, 2008
NCsoft® Corporation, the world's leading developer and publisher of online computer games, unveiled today the details of a new micro-transaction system called NCcoin™. This system will allow customers to use real-world money to purchase in-game items and upgrades.
NCcoin, debuting in the action-packed game Exteel™, was designed so that each dollar spent (US$1) equates to 100 NCcoin, which can be used to acquire in-game items and for upgrade purchases. NCcoin is part of NCsoft's continuing efforts to offer a variety of business models while giving customers easier access to NCsoft games.
"NCsoft's goal is to bring more and more people into the online gaming market, and part of achieving that goal is to continue to diversify how customers can pay and play," said Chris Chung, NCsoft North America's president. "This system will offer our customers much greater flexibility and convenience in paying for content. Micro-transactions are a growing part of the online gaming industry and NCcoin will allow us to support micro-transaction based games efficiently, allowing developers and players to quickly enjoy the benefits of those systems. We will soon be rolling out more contents that leverage the flexibility of NCcoin."
In addition to Exteel, NCcoin is expected to be incorporated globally into many of NCsoft's existing and upcoming games. NCcoin is currently available in 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 denominations for $1, $5, $10 and $20 amounts, respectively.
Send any question to a community manager of any game and they are going to tell you nothing. The only straight answer out of a community manager would be ones that are already well known.

And you don't think the Aion developers have decided whether they will use NCcoin for Aion or not? If they are not going to, then she will have no qualms about answering the question definitively.

She has people above her as well. It doesn't matter if they have decided on whether to use it or not if the higher ups don't want to talk about it you will hear nothing.

NCSoft only uses NCcoin in the eastern part because that is what most of their customer base over there use, Exteel was a experiment in that use to see if it was a viable option to use in the western territories. I see no reason for them to use this method in a game that will not be heavily favored by it's western subscribers.

Do you think they can see the future?
Imagine for a moment that in 2 years the market advances and they can use micro transactions since the whole market is used to them in their P2P games, how many people will quote Liv if she said, 2 years ago that their game would never use micro payments?
I just can say that talking with European distributors might get you real facts, I already did, and I already know you're wrong, Aion, at least at the start, won't have any kind of micro payment for anything, it will follow a regular game box+15$/month fee. I could even tell you what the CE will include if my contacts allowed me to do so, guess I'll write it somewhere and then show it once it's made public by NCsoft themselves.

It's wrong for a developer not to commit one way or another to whether they will keep a MMOG pure or infect it with microtransactions. It's not fair to a customer to sell them a game and after that customer has invested years into developing their character to add microtransactions. It's basically a bait and switch fraud like SOE has perpetuated on it's players with Stationcash.
No company will ever guarantee their game will be "micro transaction" free forever. You don't know how well it will perform and the extra stuff you might offer, actually, most of the P2P games offer certain micro payments features such as name change, server transfering, etc, NCsoft will not discard them since they haven't thought in the long term future.
Anyways, NCcoins haven't been used on anything but Xteel as far as I know, and Xteel is a F2P game, there's no reason to think Aion will have the same considering what's stated in the official Aion US site, the picture of Aion in a prepaid timecard, and what I got from the distributors. And if they can't discard it might in the future, it's because the Community manager won't be the one knowing that, they know about present, the sales/marketing department and the Arenanet team are probably the only ones that know about the future of NCCoin, which was an idea created pre-NCWest.
I agree with Ephi, and I know taht NCsoft has been trying to take a page out of Blizzard's book for Aion, and micro-trans are not in it.
It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay. -Quote Isoke(VN boards)

NOO!!!
Pay to play, I believe there is an FAQ stickied on the Aion forum that covers this an many other questions regarding the game.
I'm not interested in Aion but I can answer you. There's an Aion forum btw, you should post there normally.
For EU/NA they have simply not given an answer, the release is in Q4 anyway.
I -think -it's like this atm:
In Korea: Free Client, Monthly Fee
In China: Payed Client, F2P
Wait, is NCSOFT the company making it? What have they made?
Yes, they're the company that made the Lineage series.
Oh, I am kinda new to getting into the MMOPRG crowd, so bare with me. lol sorry
Wikipedia is your friend.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCSoft
um... china's is not F2P and you have to pay for the client in Korea too I believe
I payd for the Korean client. And China will be p2p
