Dont think we're here for any specific purpose. As someone already said; we're here because the universe allows it. If the universe is infinitely large, then we can exist because the possibilities are endless. What happens after death is an entirely different question (well, maybe not entirely). What i believe happens after death is a toss up between; 1) nothing, we cease to exist or 2) we start over again, for no specific reason. I mean if gravity, energy, light and such things follow patters, why wouldnt death follow a pattern as well? What also bugs me about our current messing around on this planet is humanity at large. I mean, how can so many of us run around blowing others to pieces, rape, murder and destroy? Its as if they dont think at all, only helplessly following emotions and instincts. If humanity could at a point join together there would be no truth that we wouldnt uncover... in time.
I wonder who laid out the pattern. If there was nothing, then there is nothing, right? But there is something.
If there was nothing, there would be noone to discuss it now, would there? So of course there is something.
Just because there is something, why would there have to have been anyone designing it? What if the universe wasnt created by any god or any "big bang?" It could have just been there all along, both infinite in time, size and possibilities. As for the patters I see it as a simple mixture of chaos and order...
