Is eve good? yes, my fight last night :)

OK, lots of people seem to be complaining about the boring click and wait fighting style, or things like that..

they are totally wrong!!

I've only been playing a while, and not so many skills, etc, but i LOVE this game.

I like FPS games, as well as rts and strategy games, and Eve is a nice combo of them alll..

what - a FPS?? never you say :)

Listen.

Last night i finally got to use lvl3 agents in the Federation Navy - they give out missions to kill pirates and smigglers etc - and tough missions as well... I've been doing lvl2 missions for a while and doing quite well, so i though, what the hell :)

I fly a Vexor cruiser - its a 2nd line cuiser with decent armour/shields etc, and its speciality is Drone control - i can carry and use 4 heavy drones and 5 medium drones at once. I have equipped it with overdrives, a microwarp drive, medium shield booster, and 4 dual railgun turrets.

So i fly in to my mission to kill a caldari cruiser (caracel) and some caldari frigates (kestrels)

I warp in at 40km to take a look at the opposition - a cruiser and a couple of frigates - all missile boats. I wait until they have locked me and the first barrage of missiles starts my way. Then i launch my drones and send them off to kill the frigates (a heavy drone is nearly as good as any frigate - basically a flying gun) then i manualy changed courseto get closer to the enemey (but not approach head on).
At this stage i have a bunch of missiles heading my way - tbu missiles turn slowly and have limited range :) So when the missiles were getting really close (a few km away) i turn and hit my Microwarp to speed up to over 1km/sec and skim past those missiles (which are turning to follow me now) i target the caracel and start pounding it - trying to get into my optinal range of some 20km... as new missile volleys are approaching i change course to dive past them and keep firing my microwarp from time to time - getting the missiels to continually loop around behind me, and many run out of steam and dissapear.

all the time i am directing my drones to mob the frigates one at a time - kill off the enemies and reduce the missiels coming at me faster.

By this time i'm through the shields of the caracel, and my drones have removed those pesky frigates, and they move in to mob the caracel - now i stop firing and play dodge the missile - time to time i get the timing wrong and missiles hit me and have to use my shield booster.

but the time the caracel (cruiser) is dead, i've lost a couple of drones and my shields are hovering around the 20% mark.... I think to myself "whohoo"" - then 4 more enemy frigs (kestrels) warp in practically on top of me (10k away) and i frantically try to get out of range long enough to get my powerplant changed up enough to start using my microwarp again.... :)

i ended up winning the battle, but after 3 waves of enemy i was down to structure, and most of my drones were dead. I obviouly have to rethink my ship setup for these missions :)

but there is definently some fast reflexes needed, and i was "piloting" my ship to swoop around my enemies - just not using a joystick.

it is possible to use "keep at range" and "orbit" or "approach" commands, but all of them are less than optimal for use in battles

im going to try and talk a little about PvP here. im in a outer alliance and exsperience some fighting in middle of 0.0 space quite often. rule number one. there are no rules. rule number 2. always fit for PvP unless you are going to hunt npc. you see rules in fighting npc and PvP are quite diferent. in npc they are not going anywhere. you cant jamm them. no use scrambling them. i think stasis wed does not work. and you cand drain there energy cap. soo npc tends to go into brutal tanking fight. in pvp the most annyoing thing that can happen is being any one of the folloving. scarmbeld(cant run) jammed (cant target ANYthing). dampend(-50% or more targeting range) stasis(makes you easy to hit) nosferatu/energy drain(low/none cap = Death)

in short a huge game of rock, paper,Plasma gun. and there is talk of people getting the PvP bug. some corps now sponcer a pvp wing just so they can give the rest of them some slack

most PvP (95%) happen around gates. where the more advanced fighting is going on you best chance of killing someone is getting him in the few seconds when he uncloacks after a jump and starts trying to warp. contermessures there invole use of a LOT of Warp Core Stabilicers. and you dont and are flying a cruiser and above with no Micro warpdrive. your ass is ganked :(. frigs with mwd stand the gratest chance of making it past a blockade. cuz a fast time to warp and speed. second
