    Add more ram, atleast 6-8GB

I have a better build on this forum, for a little cheaper, and its an i7 build, ill paste it.

    edit - heres the paste

    Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 - Retail

combo deal with - EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $579.98

    G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - $118.99 (always upgradable)

    Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $75.00

CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - $110.00

    EVGA 01G-P3-N981-TR GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - $150.00

Thats pretty much it, the only things you would need are a disc drive, OS, case, mouse, keyboard, monitor (sometimes people already have these in their homes, or take out of older PC's). All for only $1,048.97 and you get rebates on some things..

p.s. - eVGA rox. I have a eVGA 780i board and two eVGA 9800's sLI config. work great together, plus overclocking is awesome.

Here are some of my suggestions.

Here are the reasons for the changes.  You didn't need a 750 Watt PSU to run your system unless you get 2 video cards.  Considering this is a budget build, you shouldn't spend a premium price.  I switched it with a well reviewed PSU that should be suffecient.  Also an AMD platform will consume less watts then an Intel platform.

The 790X mobo is because its a more powerful board with a better Southbridge for only slightly more the cost.

The new Acer Monitor because of the High Contrast Ratio.  The other monitor had a very small Contrast Ratio while this one has one of the highest.

The Sapphire GPU because it is well reviewed, cheaper, and comes certified to be overclockable.

The Kingston Ram just to make up the difference in price.

Ohh ya, switch with the 500GB Caviar Black from above.  I just got one of those.  They run extremely cool.

The Above build isn't actually cheaper when you factor in the monitor, OS, Speakers, Keyboard, Optical Drives, and the sacrafices for getting a Core i7 like using a 9800GT.

    This is true.

Whats the problem with using a 9800GT with the i7 though?

Nothing.  Its just you are sacraficing using an HD4870 1GB, one of the top performing single GPUs for a CPU that has a marginal benefit in games.

Though the i7 is slightly faster than the Phenom II X3,  the HD4870 is quite a bit faster than the 9800GT, so it kinda depends if he wants to put that cash into the video card or the cpu/mobo.  Usually the video card makes a bigger difference and I think the Phenom II + HD4870 is going to be better performance than the i7+9800GT.

The PSU you're looking at actually has a $25 rebate on it bringing it down in price a bit but as noted before that 750W is complete overkill.  You should be fine with a ~$70 power supply.  I would go with Cleffy's alterations to the whole package, though changing up mobo's might be a little unnecessary if you want to save the 40 bucks you save on the power supply especially if you don't plan on ever using the SLI or heavy overclocking.

Why? I run 4GB and have had no issues.

I agree 4GB is plenty atm, just get 2 2GB sticks like you have planned, if you really feel like you need more you can just get another pair.  I can't think of a game that uses more than ~1.4GB of memory honestly (I've had Warhammer suck up to 2gb+ due to memory leaks though), and that leaves 1GB for Vista to be happy in (or half that for XP), and 1.5gb for multitasking (I play in windowed mode cuz I can't stand not alt-tabbing out constantly).
