Aventurine just posted this news item, all copies are sold out until they allow some more purchases to made on the 25th Feb.
"We’ve processed all the pre-orders we had the capacity for and they're now temporarily sold-out. We didn't think this would happen so soon but as you probably experienced, the demand was just too high.
We'll make more copies available on launch day, but if these happen to sell out as well, we'll offer copies as often as possible as we keep upgrading our capacity. As much as we would like to be able to handle all the demand, it's very difficult when this constantly increases. We’re working as fast as we can to catch up, but for now our #1 concern is that the people who do get into the game are able to have a good experience. We’re afraid that we need to control the number of players for now. On the other hand we are aggressively working on being able to meet the demand.
We apologize for the timeouts and the heavy load on the pre-ordering pages again. Since the last session, we multiplied our already ample web server capacity by 5 but the volume we had to handle was still too high. We processed a great deal of pre-orders but it turned out to be a frustrating experience for most. We'll continue to upgrade and optimize and do everything we can to improve things on our end.
There were also a few issues reported with the pre-orders involving 0 charges and a few other lesser issues. We will address these as soon as possible and report back with our findings.
We’ll keep you posted on any developments."

Oh, it was posted by Tasos.
...Which pretty much means its a lie, their servers keep crapping out from crappy code and they shut it down to avoid more flak.

Nah its not a lie...if you saw how many threads and posts of people saying they literally had to refresh/spam they billing/order forms...
But to hear that the demand was too high and not having enough really amuses me....I would've expected them to anticipate how many players woulda wanted to play this game...ANd they have it under Digital Download....I dont see how they could run out....But oh well...

I don't think it is an actual matter of being "sold out" as much as they can't support anymore players. They will take the money for the pre-orders and, more than likely, purchase more servers.

You're right. One cannot run out of a digital item. However, what has happened is that they reached their estimated player capacity. Why sell more copies of the game than their game server can now support? So, like the above info stated, capacity will be increased and more copies of the game will be sold.
Am I the only one here who's reminded of Cartman land? For those who don't watch south park, a theme park opened up, and the owned made commercials specifically to tell people that they can't come in.
Priceless.

this sell out stuff sounds dodge to me. don't see how they can sell out, they should be able to get more servers up easily surely. then again this is tasos...
I was going to wait until launch to buy with debit card anyway. but sounds like they're only hosting a few servers so sounds more like a limited number p2p open beta than a release to me.
My blog:
You assume they have the money to host more than one server. I think they're pretty much broke and will be using the money from the first round of pre-orders to fund the next round.
Let's hope its not a ponzi scheme that eventually will have to run out.

Seeing as they're limiting the release, I highly doubt they allowed preorders to the full capacity yet, somewhere around 50-75%, with the rest allowing to buy on the 25th.. Aventurine hasn't released any hard numbers of customers that they are "allowing" to get into the game on release, so every number everyone posts is just opinion. Until Aventurine releases some numbers on the amount of players allowed in the release, or we get some rough estimations of server activity after release, everything is just speculation.
Well hopefully this means a decent start to the game. I may not play it but I hope it does well. One disappointing over hyped game after the other doesnt help the industry and God knows it needs some variety (even if i do still play wow).
That is one of the main reasons why I'm just playing F2P mmo's for a while now...You've really got nothing to lose and it keeps you occupied for a bit until everything settles down....hopefully...
But this game isn't overhyped. This game has been bashed the hardest and is still popular. Hell, even I pre-ordered and I'm not sure why since there's so much negativity!
err my guild alone has 100 copies... So shuv it up your ass.

i dont think they did enough pre orders to even fill 1 server probly 15-20k pre orders

I completed your dis.
It doesn't really mean anything that they are out of their limited number of pre-orders. I would still like to know how many it was or how many servers they have planned.
We were previously told that 10,000 copies would be the first offering. 10,000 is a weak number for a MMO launch.
I have the feeling this limited and staged release is nothing more than a paid stress test.
They never had close to their projected server cap of 10k players online.
I am thinking they sold just enough copies to match the amount of testers they had plus a couple hundred more. This way they have the base they know the servers can handle and just keep adding more people over time until they hit the server limit with no problems. Thats when we will see a new server open up.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I don't know about how many will be sold.
What I have noticed is that a large percentage of the the downloads are being done from NA.
I'm not saying that all those had actually bought the pre-order, was just an observation.

Well atleast its finally coming out so i guess that has to count for something. But seeing their track record with launches, ill believe the game is out when i see it. Just a few days away anyway.
"It is my opinion, that my opinions are always right"
They sold out alright. All 300 copies of it.
This is a good sign of good buisness practice. They are only taking as many players as they can handle but at the same time not scam the rest who are waiting out of their money.
Good props in my eyes.
