This games PVP sucks!

Shard101Shard101 Member UncommonPosts: 479

I have played many MMO's for PVP but, this one takes the cake in being the suck.

Few Archtypes are even any good in PVP and there are just a few cookiecutter builds that perform well.

The Devs in this are awful with PVP.

If you looking for good PVP in a MMO , I would skip this crap up.

Talk about delayed reaction! This games been out for ages and you just discovered its not a pvp game*Gasp!* Generally speaking its a very social co-operative game. Im surprised it has pvp at all. Albeit with the Villians it does make sense to a extent hehe

It's true that solo PvP is wildly unbalanced, but it doesn't "suck", it's some of the fastest, most skillful PvP out there.  Team PvP is pretty well balanced, and extremely fast-paced.

how is that when i was base raiding, it pretty much came down to Def (Emps, Kins) and blasters (Energy)..

  • DeathTrippDeathTripp Member UncommonPosts: 263

I agree the combat is fast paced as hell and I will say the statements made by the OP are bullshit. If you are referring to classes like dominator not being good because people can pop to get out of holds well if there are a few doms they can lock down anything. The main problem in my opinion is incentive, and the fact there is no "world pvp" , only instanced.

The game was not originally designed for pvp so there is no "world pvp". That and the majority of players do not want to be forced into pvp, so adding world pvp would be a bad idea.

Althought I will agree CoX PvP is not up to the level of other games in the PvP aspect your statement it sucks is more likely from your lack of experience with your character in PvP. If you grind up to level 50, toss in some sets without thinking about PvP as you were doing PvE to that point, then hell yes your gonna suck.  That is why you can choose an alternate build at the trainers, 1 for PvP, 1 for PvE.. I have no problems having fun in PvP when I decide to do it, the incentive just isnt there. Also keep in mind everyone PvPing in CoX probably has 8+ characters at level 50, full of sets and know how to play their characters well. Very few venture into PvP in CoX except the hardcore. I mean imagine if you went to a karate class as a white belt and everyone else was in the special forces for 5 years, how well do you feel you would do?

So if you cant stand being owned for the first 10-12 hours of PvP until you figure out what works then yep you can go cry to the Justic League or Dr. Doom.

^ i found MM to be pointless in pvp zones, tp foe :p

Also certain powersets like Archery or non Energy melee tanks were useless in Pvp.

  • AmarsirAmarsir Member UncommonPosts: 703

I have to pity them a little bit.

"Tanks suck in PvP. All melee sucks. Also, healing is too good, and controls are either useless or auto-win with no in between."

"OK, in i13 we've made changes, including speed suppression to help melee out. Heals will now have diminishing returns after the first few. And mez protection is being changed to resistance - so the target is always affected, but just a little."

"You're changing PvP? How dare you!"

I have nothing against PvP in general, but I have to say that the reasons I like City of Heroes are like a list of the reasons PvP won't work:

    * Most powers are balanced around fighting multiple enemies at once.
    * Effects are big. Attacks kill enemies in 3 shots or less. Heals can take you from almost-dead to full instantly. Holds or Stuns leave an enemy completely powerless while you beat on them.
    * Movement is fast. WoW players wait til 40 to get a mount and 50% movement bonus, which is only used for travel. CoH players at 14 can take Super Speed which is 5-6 times as fast and can be on all the time.

It's this 150% approach that makes the game interesting to me. But it's not good for PvP, where people are constantly moving around, don't stay in groups, and want some back-and-forth to their combat rather than first-hit-wins. That's why issue 13 scaled a lot of this back.

Well from what I can tell all the pvpers left the game due to I13 being released. When i look at youtube vids and official pvp forums everyone just talks bout how they quit.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfUCXZWl2P8

I quit a bit before I13. I actually enjoyed my melee toon and regurlarly did the test server PVP where champions were bred.

I dont know about now but it looks like its gotten worse. Did they remove travel suppression that they added in i13? That seemed like a horrid idea. Seemed like they were trying to make the pvp slow like WoW. I enjoyed the fast pace of the combat back then

A shudder when I think about Champions / DCU I dont think we will see a good pvp superhero MMO for sometime

This game was built around a Team Vs Team pvp and single player vs single player.  The devs have said this... repeatedly.. often.  Apparently some people still don't get it.

Not to mention there are different ways to pvp in the zones.  You can go find players and take them out, do missions to buff your side or debuff the other side.  Blood Bay, for example, has a repeatable outdoor mission to collect shards for a nice temp power.

It's the players NOT the devs that have shifted focus away from pvp.  When asked on forums and polled, content and coop missions are always asked for more than pvp.   So, that is what we been getting.  A small (but loud) voice before CoV came out cried that there was no pvp in the game, so they added the Arenas.

Simply put when peopel think of pvp they think WoW battlegrounds, DAoC keep sieges, etc.  This game isn't designed like that so the pvp is too "different" for some people to wrap their minds around.

Ish 13's diminishing returns in PVP zones now has basically removed the auto-win button that some people had for their characters and thus some had to adapt to the new situation while others left in a huff.

The game is based around Team Work and Solo Play, with PvP having been an afterthought.

If you want some direct PvP , one on one action, then use the arena.

I always thought they should make pvp changes to the zone enviroment, not to character classes. If melee characters are at a disadvantage, add tunnels or mazes with goals inside that are needed for zone control. that might give close ranged charaters more of an advantage or purpose without nerfing anyone.

How do you figure it was built around pvp?  PVP wasn't added until issue 5.

Melee do just fine....ever fight a "Brute in pvp?" Scrappers, Tanks and Brutes may not dish out Damage like Blasters, Corrupters,  but they sure can take it and eventually wear down there foe.

Not a Big Fan of pvp, however I play only Melee toons and win just as Much as I loose.

Well the topic of this post is about the pvp of CoH so that is what I was talking about.  That the pvp was built around single player vs single player (arena) and Team Vs Team (pvp zones).   Originally the devs resisted the idea of the arena, didn't make much sense for heroes to beat the crap outta each other.  They did bow to the wishes of the playerbase and added the arenas, so the people crying on the forums got their pvp and the lore of the game didn't suffer too badly.
