Release: Did it happen somewhere else?

dijpadijpa Member Posts: 12

... because when you visit http://www.darkfallonline.com/ - after waiting 3 minutes for the website to load, it looks exactly the same as it did last month... with a big "BETA SIGNUP" link that achieves nothing... and a NEWS section that was last updated on January 22nd.

Is this game actually a figment of somebody's imagination? 8 years in development.... lol, even the aventurine website http://www.aventurine.gr/ appears to be the work of a schoolboy.

Is this company serious? How on earth does it expect to be taken seriously as the future of MMO when for all the world it just seems like a big charade... and elaborate hoax.

You start with a wrong asumption.

You asume that it was released somewhere. But it has not yet. So it can not be somewhere else either.

Whew...I thought you were going to use the 'V' word for a second there.

Its not a hoax. They just did a piss poor job of keeping their website up to date. They will probably fail to attract some potential subscribers and also lose a few in the process, but then " them's the breaks".

I've been playing MMOs since almost day one of UO and this is THE WORST launch I can remember. It will probably be a great game, but someone needs to hang for the customer abuse suffered to get this thing off the ground.

Can we expect you to not overly troll as being a fanboy if it doesn't release tonight? (as in EU standards such as tasos said it was going to).

So is CCP the makers of Eve-Online and their launch was much better not to mention their release included NA with localized servers! So whats DF's excuse? poor programmers :)

Doubt they are worried about that at the moment.....seeing as they have way more people interested than they can handle now.

Nah, they were kind enough to wait for me to get home.

    *fetches popcorn and coffee*

Alright, lads. Let that countdown comence ...

p.s. Gotta love them postponing and waiting to the very edge of deadlines.Or perhaps even failing them. It is kind of recognizable to me, personally. Makes them a little more human  ^_^

Fanbois come running when you use the 'V' word....

Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.

What, something like that? Or did you mean Vanguard...the fanbots really come running when you use the "DnL" word though.

There you go again. You have an answer for everything and everyone.

You could be the smartest 11 year old on the planet. I'm sure all your vast life experiences puts you a notch above everyone else. We might as well all stop posting our opinions, and simply ask Darkstar for the answers to all questions.

Another "I know it all" post from an 11 year old who "joined" just a couple weeks ago. Can't wait to see who you put down next.

I'm the last person to defend developers because I fundamentally think they are a much lower form of life than most people give them credit for (except for the "IT Professional", which makes "military intelligence" sound like a rational phrase) However, this kind of failure is far above the lowly production-line worker bee.

Ok ill make it clear  before people jump on me. Garkfall is Not a hoax its real ect. However to mention that they did a bad job on updating their website and having worked on websites also having family who do websites for a living, I can safely say they are hiding somthing.

It doesnt take that long to change some html text . Even if they are using proffesional programs to make websites it Doesnt take that long to update images or text. They do not need to remake the whole website to do a few changes or announcments. YOU DO NOT NEED A WHOLE DEV TEAM TO UPDATE A WEBSITE. 1 person is all that it takes.

www.tripletags.com/ this is one of my brothers websites. this is his past time site and he updates it daily as he gets info. he also makes websites for buisnesses and is even studying . yet he still finds  time to update his website with news. IT doesnt take so long. It has its own forums, downloadables. ect.  heck they could have hired some freelancer to update their page for a few $$ .

All they need to do is a simple update on their front page. Not doing so does make people wonder wtf is going on. Indy company or not , the website is your important feature as it displays what you are trying to pitch to the masses. This matters more than the product itself.

Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.

Agreed, it takes only moments to update a few paragraphs. This kind of behavior has a bigger impact on the number of people who are willing to take indie games seriously, however. That's the real damage.

To be fair, launch days are seldom smooth or easy.   In a week the initial rush will subside and Aventurine will then have truly show if they have the competence to live up to the hype they've created for themselves.

But there are things they could be diong right now, like communicating with the communitry through their website.   But communication/community interaction has never been one of Aventurine's strong points.

It's good to see the launch from that perspective but is it really the worst?     It seems odd that in this day that they couldn't at least be a little better.

Also can we really separate the game from customer service/community interaction?   I've seen people in other posts go on about the features of Darkfall but running a MMORPG is much more than just making a game.   Running a MMORPG is providing a service.    All the features in the world aren't worth anything unless your customer service and network is up to snuff.

This is where Aventurine will be truly judged, not on their game design, but as a company and how they treat their customers.   Let's see if they treat them better than they've treated the community during the game's development.   (You have to wonder why they're not updating the website which would be extremely easy, as has been pointed out.   There's nothing that should stop them from giving hourly updates on the website).   I think that how Aventurine acts toward the community will play a greater role in determining the future of this game than the game itself.

Well it's even more funny. There is only one server and always have been! Tranquility.

And yeah 2 test servers, like Singularity.

But as Indy company CCP has done really great over the years since their launch. Much more professional. But then again.... CCP has some really serious expertise in-house many game studio's can only dream of.

Why US time?  I thought I read that they had decided to cater more to the Euro crowd, with the NA coming at a later, unspecified date.  Or did I somehow accidentally make that up?

Aye, If they would have hired one person just dedicated to the website things could have turned out even better for them. They would see that they have so many potential consumers they would quickly work on getting more intrested on their product. As it is , it is turning off those who have not yet made up their mind. I do plan to play this game as I do have a craving for hardcore pvp. But as it stands ill just wait for the us servers, prob by then things will be better. If not then ill wait a month or 2 before trying or when a trail does come out.

That's why Aventurine will never ever see one single dime out of my pocket.

Seriously, they cannot even maintain their own website. One of the most simplistic MMO sites I've ever seen.

How hard is it to remove one friggin' Beta link and put some launch info in place?

More then 10 years ago my little brother (when he was like 15) did already a better job with his websites then Aventurine does with their Darkfall website.

So you can pretty much expect ZERO customer support from these guys. Hence, I don't even wanna know what a big mess it's going to be with people's CC private details and transactions.
