vBulletin Message

The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

That's a custom message put in by hand. Vbulletin doesn't automatically post messages like that.....

i wasn't going to say that, cause i would have been called a hater, but yeah, that box is a turned off message box. If the server is too busy, you would get the usual host is taking too long yadda yadda.

i can make that too busy page too on my forum shutdown screen

  • Oh hey, more nonsense posts, who would have guessed. The posted message is in fact a valid VBulletin message and usually indicates either a misconfiguration (simultaneous session limit or *nix server load limit set too low) or it's under a D/DOS attack. The probability of either of these happening is very high given it's their launch day and they may have changed some settings to compensate for expected load and there's probably quite a few script kiddies roaming about with zero patience.

    But seriously, stop being retarded.

You do realize its showing up on the same host meaning that they are not experiencing connection issues or ddos attacks right? Cause you couldn't see this page if they were.

Oh look a guy who can't say come up with anything educated to say so he just spews whatever distorted thoughts come to mind. Actually I created this account so I could get in on some of MMORPG.com's beta key giveaways. But since I've been watching DarkFall the past few days and today was a pretty good day for me I've decided to come troll the whiners here with realism. But no really, let's see what awesome insult you come back with next.

Actually there are many different vectors for delivering a DDOS, many of which involve exploiting misconfigurations in software. Overloading a system with too many connections is just one form of denial of service.

Still ddos = no connection period so guess what? There'd be no message at all other then your browsers error page!

And I'm meaning you won't be able to connect, especially as quickly as we can currently.

You still don't seem to be able to grasp the concept I just described to you. So let's try again.

Say I'm operating my own VBulliten board on a really old piece of shit machine. I know my machine doesn't have the resources (cpu power, memory, etc) necessary for too large an amount of users so I go set the maximum number of simultaneous sessions to 50. But low and behold I didn't hit the 0 key hard enough and didn't notice my mistake. Now I've gone and saved my settings. We're ready for disaster to strike.

About an hour later my friends start to come onto the board to post. Pretty soon they tell a few more people and I have 5 people on my board. Now a 6th person attempts to access the board, but because I've set the maximum number of simultaneous sessions too low the server sends them an error message saying the server is too busy at the moment.

So now we have our situation where through a simple misconfiguration a user is denied service despite being able to communicate with the machine just fine.

Get it now? And yes, despite the fact that this does not follow the typical DDOS "style" it is infact considered a denial of service.
