WORST RELEASE IN HISTORY?

People have short memories and like to use "worst in history" almost as much as people throw the word "love" around.

WoW servers were down at launch for a lot of people. Logon servers were up and down as well. Main difference is you had a box with a pretty map so you couldn't say it hadn't released.

I have legit DF bits on my HD that work, so DF is as much released as WoW was in my opinion.

EQ, had massive fails every expansion until about the 3rd or 4th one when they kinda got it right. Still, they moved to digital download so people could have the bits on their HD even if their logon servers were flooded that day and no one could get in. (accept the people who got in before the logon servers died)

And no, I am not a fanboi, just someone who is realistic. Even if this were Hello Kitty online, I wouldn't be saying half the crap the trollboi's are saying. Most of it proves they know little about software development, server management, international business or anything relating to business really. It proves they have short term memory and don't even remember the last few Major MMO releases.

Countless failures from smaller MMOs that went unnoticed because people didn't care. For some reason, the lack of communication from the Darkfall crew and the crappy website just made Darkfall easy to jump all over and start vaporware threads on. The similarity in name to Dark and Light, the many minor factors that triggered the subconscious of many to jump all over DF.

This is an excellent case study in the human psycology and how we can conclude and deny. Prophecy must be fulfilled because i spent so many countless hours believing the world would end! Reminds me of the last president of the US we had. Bent on starting world war 3, just so all those years in church weren't a 'waste'.

Subconscious of the stupid is powerful... Be smart and know why you tick the way you tick before you explode.

i never purchased DF... my personal worst release was Vanguard. Perhaps now tied with my biggest let down, WAR. I truely hope DF comes around and does not add to a long list of dissapointments.

Barely got in on launch day in SWG, haha... played for maybe 20 minutes.

Which is 20 minutes more than I'll be playing DF today, haha... ofc, I didn't pre-order.

One little difference with SWG, WoW, and most of the other MMOs that had Release day difficulties...

    Number of players

I've heard anywhere from 10k to 30k for the number of players that successfully pre-ordered the game.  That is a pretty decent number for a game like DarkFall.  But by MMO standards... not really an amount that should cause much trouble getting processed and onto the Live game server(s).

How many was SWG & WoW dealing with on Release day?   Yes... they were bigger companies... but WoW was Blizzard's first MMO too... so the inexperience factor in regards to MMO launches was there for them as well.

Anyway, just pointing out that with a decent manager in charge over at Aventurine... this shouldn't have been this difficult to pull off.  It's a shame that they had to start off their Release this way because Tasos is horrible at planning and coordination.

In my opinion DarkFall and Aventurine will be much better off once they realize that Tasos isn't worth keeping around.

Funcom seems to have made some strides in the right direction once they released their anchor as well.

The point u make hear is only that the director takes all the heat for the release problems.  Gaute took all the heat for there sketchy launch but it was a joint effort.  Tasos is simply taking the heat for technical problems which producers and directors have nothing to do with.  Thats why they have grunts working for them.

    "have nothing to do with".

Hmm... well I suppose that works if the guy in charge just likes to pass the buck.   For most of us that have dealt with large projects where quite a bit of coordination and planning is required though... we realize that no matter where along the line the failure occurs... ultimately the person in charge is responsible.

That is kinda the point of being called the person in charge... i.e. the director or producer.

If that person is incapable of making sure all the sub-components of the larger project are not in place and working as intended... then what is the point of them being in charge?

Time after time we've seen the incompetence of Tasos to make sure that the proper systems are in place and ready to go for the successful launch and operation of DarkFall.  There is more to running an MMO than just getting the game engine itself "Ready".

As he is finding out first hand there are many other pieces to the puzzle that make up a successfully running MMO.

Anarchy Online was by far the worst release of the many I have been thru. It was mostly unplayable for the first few months due to EXTREME lag, rubberbanding, disconnections, falling thru the floor, servers being offline etc. I remember it got the tag "Anarchy Offline" pretty quick. All in all Funcom has 2 of the worst launches in history and subsequent loss of huge player base due to imcompetence, but I digress.

Doesn't anybody realize that they have a LIMITED RELEASE, in order to meet the demand that they said they can handle?

It pretty much means that Tasos is totally full of shit and happy to take your money from  you. It's so bad that they seem to be creating accounts BY HAND. It means they had no system in place to automatically process these things, the account management is a joke, etc.

I like the excuses but the vast majority is what they said they could handle and thus, limited the # of preorders. They only announced preorder a few days before LAUNCH.

This is shaping up to be EPIC EPIC fail. I'll bet on another day of downtime before some people give up and cancel their pre-order, and then finally it will be up.

Two months or so until total fail. Then it will truly be epic fail.

Darkfall, brining us back to the glory days of 2001. I'm just glad it doesn't require 3dfx voodoo drivers to run.

Well WWIIONLINE ranks up there for sure, it was a very difficult launch.

However the one thing that seems to make DFO real bad is the billing crap.

    It's that bad.

Gonna call BS on other mmos launches.

AO worked fine other than lag and a few crashes, But I got to play it on the day of release. Real bad lag but I still got to play.

    Had no problems with SWG.

Creating my account durring DAOC was the only problem but after I waited a hour after servers went live I was able to play.

Other than Lag my server never crashed in WoW. Bad part is I uninstalled it 6 days later.

Did anyone get to play DF today?

I know with other companys I played there game on release. It wasnt smooth but It ran on the day of release.

Release day has always been bad for mmos but bad as in it wasnt smooth. Not bad as in Not one customer got to play it.

    Um, yes, Darkfall is released!

WHen people credit card are billed in full and they still cannot access the game and the lead developer announce there is a DELAY even before you can play...

Means that Darkfall is following in the exact same footseteps as other major flops, namely Dark & Light.  But, i would suspect you are new to the MMORPG community and know little to nothing of what bad signals Aventurine has been sending the industry with shoddy gameplay and big lipservice.

When are you children going to learn that Tasos is a slick talking care salesmen that is trying to make money off you hopes and dreams. Nobody in beta likes this game and the people who do, will tell you it is only because they like the COMBAT's concept. But the same combat can be had elsewhere in any FPS game.

Darkfall is a flop and will not last more than 2- 3 months! Meaning, it will close it doors before July!

LOL had to laugh, when he was giving his last interview in Bagdad, he stated that Coliation forces were no where near the city. In fact US tanks were just crossing a bridge less then 1 KM from his location. He hung himself shortly after, a tragic comedy if ever there was. Oh and he was the master of spin, got to give him that. BTW that live interview was on CNN etc and it showed him talking, and the inbeds reporting from the units they were with entering Bagdad.

You can't really say it is the worst release in history until you've given it at least a week or so. Previous MMOs have been plagued by serious problems from their launch well into a week of it being live.

Also, technically the game isn't out yet as the servers haven't opened up at this point.

But yeah, what we've seen so far is pretty bad. Luckily I thoroughly enjoy the game, and as a beta tester, I'm more than used to waiting for long periods of time for the servers to come up.
