Yes it sucks.  Yes I want to play to.

All the arguing/ranting/whining etc... is most likely due to being bored, while you click

LOGIN LOGIN, REFRESH FORUM, LOGIN LOGIN, rinse repeat.

So if you are just bored... and looking for something to do/type, then respond to this:

What race are you going to play, and why?

Go into detail about your plans.

Are you going to craft?

Are you in a guild?  What guild?

I still havn't figured out what I want to do yet...

Maybe someone can inspire me

...or I suppose you could just flame me, if it makes you happy.... just be sure to make it interesting.

    My guilds going Alfar

    Guilds The Dark Knights (www.thedarkknights.com)

Plans for now are just to get everyone into the game, get the guild going, and then start aquiring resources etc. Long term plans, Id rather not get into on a public forum =)

You need to be inspired to play? Guess you need to ask yourself a few questions first, like...why do you play games at all? At any rate its clear that what will be very focal to your game play in DF will be PVP. So if you enjoy that, and can accept any shortcomings you may feel exist in the game, you should do just fine, and have fun in the process.

If your waiting for the second coming of Baby Jebus in DF though...

Go into detail about your plans. I will probably log in, participate in the massive PvP gankfest that will be going on around all the starter areas for a while until I get the hang of things, then try to sneak out into the wilderness and see what I can find.

Are you going to craft? Maybe, if it's as time consuming as I've read, probably not.

Are you in a guild?  What guild?  None yet.

Nope, I am inpired to play.  Can't wait.

I'm just not sure what race I want to be, or if I want to get into crafting, or if I want to join a guild from the get-go or wait awhile to see who the players are.  Not sure if I want to play mainly ranged, or melee, or caster... or some kind of combination.

I've played all kinds of classes.... tank, priest, rogue, mage... you name it.

I guess this games cool in the fact, that I don't need to know what I want to be when I start.... cause I can always change, and not have to start a new character.

Anyone else predict that over half the server population will be Alfar?

Everyone I know that is buying the game is planning on being Alfar.

    The reason?

No pre-made, forced alliance with other races.  Simple as that.

DarkFall's biggest strength is it's PvP.  Not sure why they didn't make all the races like the Alfar where it comes to alliances.  It's a PvP game after all.  You are supposed to fight and kill the other races.

Id bet money on this, if you are not guilded, you are in for alot of err grief. So do some research and find a big guild that actually is sharp, and join em. It will be the best thing you will have ever done in the game. Mind you this is simply a guess on my part. I was not in the beta so I really cannot advise on races etc, but I understand there is one race that has a tiny profile, or much smaller then the others, this apparently has a significant impact on bieng able to hit the little buggers, so me personally id probably select that race, after all any advantage is a plus, well then again if its a walking mushroom maybe not. But to each his own.

You can play solo, but it is easier to play with a group. You do not have to find a group though, just do what I did when I first got in beta....make friends! Many players will be in the same boat as you and will be looking for new people to play with.

    AND:

What race are you going to play, and why? Mirdain. Because I love archery and want to eventually be able to make the racial bow.

Go into detail about your plans. Secrets!......na I plan to help my guild get formed and our city taken.

Are you going to craft? Yep. I plan to do: Fishing, cooking, bowyer, and maybe some pot making as well.

Are you in a guild? What guild?  Yea. Anvil Society.

    not necesarily alfar

Ive killed plenty of humans as a human, and like that the chat is not as idiotic as alfar or mahirim/ork chat

but yea, the game is good in this way: you can be whatever you want to be

A pos griefer, a crafter, a good player protecting noobs from the wolves, a pirate, a pve-er, a scammer, a quester (although atm the quests suck but im sure it will improve)

all is fair play, that's why this kind of games have the most playability: the drama created between the factions

  • aesirgardaesirgard Member Posts: 58

Yeah biggest reason I've heard of people being Alfar is the small hitboxes.

Much harder to hit.... however they are hated by everyone.

I would think this (lack of alliances) would make it a difficult race to play?

If I'm human... and run across a dwarf or mirdian, I can feel somewhat safe.

If I get jumped by a baddie... hopefully that dwarf may come to my aid, rather than his.

It's good to have friends.   no?

You really really cant feel safe running around in your racial territories! Between the other races pk groups roaming them and the players that will kill anyone with pretty armor you may be safer in enemy territory!

As a starting bonus? We do not know if they will be capped at the same place though, so they could give a long term benefit.

Boy are you in for a disappointment...

90% of the population will be Melee/Archery/Magic, the other 10% will forget about archery and just be Melee/Magic

Sandbox? HELL NO. More like class based game, with one hybrid class.

Melee doesn't have enough utility to stand on it's own. Neither does archery. You could potentially do pure magic, but what happens when you run out of mana? Run away pretty much.

Bottom line: Aventurine knows how to make a beautiful world, but they don't have a fucking clue how to make a game to play in it.

    Interesting....

I've always liked playing a dwarf.... but the WIS *crafting* heavy stats... scare me off a bit.

I might do some crafting... but not enought to make WIS all that important for me.

Human seems like the safe bet.... with all round stats.

Haha really? Pure archer is 100% viable with the stam reduction skill. Pure melee is also viable in group pvp, same with pure magic. You will see Archery/magic combos. Magic/melee combos, melee/archery combos, and a mix of all three.

Im curious about scamming potential in DF since you mentioned it. How can you scam in DF? Can you trade bags to peeps for example like AO? Or? I mean how would you go about scamming someone, and by this I mean using any method short of simply trying to talk them somewhere you and your ruffian friends can kill and loot some poor sap. Tell me how one can scam in DF without ambush or assassination bieng the end result.

I plan to play a pure archer with some buffing/utility magic on the side. So ya any combination or pure skill is viable at higher levels.

The number of allies doesn't matter.  The number of players playing those races is what matters.

For instance.  If there are 5k players playing Alfar and only 1k each for Mirdian, Dwarf, and Human... which one is going to offer more protection?  Assuming of course that you can "trust" your own race.

Obviously I have no idea how the numbers will end up for each of the races.  Just saying that because the M-D-H have 3 in their alliance doesn't mean they will be numerically superior.  Or the "safest" to play.

Another way to look at it.

If you need to off-set your player-killer standing as an Alfar you can kill any other race you want.  Bingo you are back into the Blue again.

As a member of the M-D-H alliance... you only have 3 other races to bump your standing back into the Blue.

Granted if you never go into the Red in the first place... it won't really be much of an issue.  But let's be realistic... it's a mainly PvP game.  There are going to be plenty of players of your own race you are going to want to kill because they are being stupid or annoying.

Once you kill them... you are going to probably want to off-set that somehow.  You off-set it by killing opposing alliances... which for the Alfar is any other Race on the server.

    Will be rolling  a Mahirim.

I am a guild member of one of the Savage Alliance guilds. Sitting with like 60 guys in vent all waiting.

Lets do this shit Aventurine, we know your game rocks, now we want to play it for keeps.

  • ArawniteArawnite Member Posts: 163

As of a week ago there were these melee abilities:

alternate attack - A toggle that switches you from overhead chop to side slash (or vice versa, I forget which was the default). Overhead chop is used vs mobs or stupid players that don't move in combat. Side swing is used vs players in most cases, and for also causing collateral damage vs your friends.

power attack - slightly more damage, uses a ton of stamina (stamina management is the key to success in DF)

knockback - sends opponent flying away from you, about 15-20 feet. Hard to use vs moving opponent, and only real use is when you're trying to defend higher ground or avoid melee.

sieze - pulls an opponent closer to you. Not sure what the fucking point of this is, or what they were thinking. If someone is in melee range already, why do I need to pull them to me?

whirlwind - 360 degree area attack, like the name implies. You pretty much avoid this unless you are only surrounded by enemies, due to friendly fire. If you're surrounded by enemies, you want to just sprint away, because using a whirlwind isn't going to save you.

They may have added something new, been awhile since I looked at the Melee trainer's list. I personally made several attempts to get them to add a snare attack. The idea usually got shot down by the stupid fuck fanboys who are too busy blindly defending the game, or by CS fags who want no cc of any kind.

Do I seem pissed? I wasted 6 years waiting for this piece of shit.

PS - I uninstalled it and gave my beta info to my guild leader. Only reason i'm here is to hopefully spread the word so fewer innocent people get conned by Aventurine. The game sucks.
