Wait, then what was this?

When I got home a couple HOURS ago, I attempted to launch the game (around 9:30 on the West Coast just to check) and when I opened up the little thingy to login in, there was a patch to download and install. People are talking about a patch now. Does this occur only after you log in? If that's the case, I am probably screwed because I keep getting the dreadful #3.

    Yes, it's after you log in.  You go through a 2-3 minute (for me at least) validation process then it starts downloading the 400MB patch.

    Then I'm boned. I can't log in because my preorder somehow didn't get through.
