What kind of ping for NA players?

Sad_PandaSad_Panda Member Posts: 131

Are players in NA getting a reasonable ping?  I'd hate to buy the game and find out it's a lagfest because of my location.

So we moved in the opposite direction. We thought about what the users wanted, what we wanted, and why it wasn't happening and how it could happen." - Tasos Flambouras

ping is related to fps due to bad coding, so set your details on low if you don't have a good rig (though, to aventurine's credit, it barely takes anything these days to run DF well).

When not spiking (there are many spikes) the ping is 150-200 for central US (texas) which is definately playable, i find it annoying when it spikes randomly though, as what's happening on screen is usually never what's happening in game.

Though even though the game is definately playable from the US, the game isn't worth 53$ currently, not even close. I would wait for the NA release so the major fails of the game can get fixed.

My ping from vermont is around 100.

But right now there are major sync issues with the game and mobs pretty much can't be hit.

110 to 200 is EXTREMELY playable, when it lags for me it goe up to 300 sometimes because i'm playing on too high of a resolution, and even then its KINDOF playable.

you should have seen when the beta servers had sync issues and the ping jumped from 100-1000 in a matter of miliseconds

ping has nothing to do with bad coding and fps.  ping is your connection from your PC to a destination.  Naturally if your playing from the US you would go through a lot of hops to get to Adventurine's server, causeing a higher ping.   If your ping (lag) is really high It would effect your fps though.  Because your not being updated as its happening, the monster, NPC or PC could be in another spot on the server but not on your PC.  And especially in a game like Darkfall where each swing, arrow, spell, etc needs to see if it hits the target.  That's a lot of data going back and forth, imagine a heavily populated area with combat going on all around you. You see this all the time in first person shooters (call of duty ,etc )  Where you waste a clip  the guy and he kills you with 2 shots,  you watch the replay of him killing you and you are not even firing in his direction.

But if your getting graphical lag you can lower your settings and that will help

Also is everyone getting the lag spikes? or just you?  If everyone then its server side.  If its just you then some ISP along your hops is having probs.
